I find it annoying too... I've just found that since the latest cup people have been a lot more sensitive about anyone complaining. I really don't think there's anything wrong with expecting constant greatness out of the Wings- but only because it's the Wings. I'm not asking the Toronto Blue Jays to be constantly great- but making the damn playoffs would be nice! (yeah- I watched some baseball this summer... couldn't get the craving for sports out of my blood after the big win). Maybe I shouldn't have directed my post right at you... you just kinda boiled the anger over.

Oh piss off. Know what's more annoying than a board with 20% pessimists? The 30% that constantly point at those 20% and cause a scene about it. That 30% is part of the PROBLEM. No. They are the damn problem. I've got a thousand times more respect for the guys and girls on here that honestly express disappointment than I do for the **** that constantly whine about those people being honest. Hell- I even like the always happy/always sad slappies better than the **** that stand around pointing and labeling. How about just letting some people say "$H!T" and some say "we'll get 'em next time" instead of being the guy who says "Hey guys- Joe thinks the sky is falling!". I'm sure this loss will sting that much more because of the way it happened. To be honest- it feels like a quicker, less painful version of the Pittsburgh loss. Play a great game and get the nutshot in the dieing seconds (or in the Pitts game- in the dying 10 mins). Meh. It's one of hundreds of losses we'll watch over the years- just be content knowing you'll watch about 3 times as many victories

I have to disagree there. The Sharks are getting way more power plays than penalty kills because they're playing Red Wing hockey. Remember last year? We'd almost always get more PPs than PKs. The power play vs penalty kill situation with the Wings is 80% the fault of the Wings playing bad hockey but still scoring lots of goals and about 20% the fault of questionable calls.

Not really- because Ericsson is a blue-chip prospect that has impressed the Wings at every opportunity. That's literally the opposite of what Quincey was for this team.

Do you honestly think he'd score like that playing 10 mins total every 5 games? Honesly- this is like putting Kopecky up with Datsyuk and Hossa for 20 mins a game and acting like the goal he scored means he's a 1st line player. Give any NHL player 20 mins a night and they better be able to do something with it. I'm glad for Quincey, but I really don't think he'd be playing like this as a 7th d-man in Detroit. Would you trade Ericsson for him? Of course not. But Ericsson will be playing in Detroit next season and we've been told he's going to be playing on the top six d-men, so what does Quincey add this next season? He's still not better than any of next year's top six. And no one offered a penny to Holland for Quincey when he was looking to trade him.

I can easily shoot that theory down- Ovechkin is near universally liked around here and he's a prodigy hockey player that the Wings don't have. How often is he maligned? Not like Crosby. Like it or not- people dislike Crosby for a reason much less easily dismissed than stupidity or jealousy. Some people hate being brow-beaten with hype. Some people resent the Crosby saturation stealing the spot-light from other equally (or at least very nearly equally) deserving players. Dismissing these people as stupid or jealous is hardly any better than people dismissing Crosby as a whiner. You're throwing the valid arguments like I just listed away based on the fact that they support a view you dislike rather than basing it on the substance of the arguments without attempting to impune the character of the other person.

What's more amazing is how good the NHL failures are. I had a friend who played in a beer league with a dude that was drafted but never played more than a couple of NHL games. My buddy said it was like a group of kids playing against Wayne Gretzky- he made everyone look stupid and he did it without a tiny shred of effort. And that guy wasn't even good enough to make the NHL. The level of skill it takes to play in the NHL is just amazing. Think of how many guys out there had unbelievable hands but failed as prospects because they just couldn't skate well enough. Hudler's one of the crappier skaters on the Wings but he'd look like Feds skating beside your average played hockey all his life hobby player.

What he did was certainly not unprecidented, however. Another American swimmer did it first and he did it with a BAD ASS MUSTACHE!
