Complaining about complaining? *sigh*

Wow. Horrible, horrible news for the world of hockey. Another young player stolen from the hockey world Hopefully this tragic event will help push the cause for external defibrillators further forward. At this point I just can't see the excuse not to have them at every sports facility. They should be factored into the cost of the building like fire extinguishers and smoke alarms.
-
Wow- Ozzy's keeping us in this.
-
Awww, finally an enlightened poster to calm the masses with his prose.
-
Well damn- it's a good thing we didn't play the leafs in the playoffs! Who else thinks Babs will have them doing an extra long practice in honour of the turnover nightmare?
-
Uggg... I'm not going to hear the end of this at school tomorrow. *shudders*
-
oooo nice little stick-check from sammy. Also- Franzen: I give you permission to score again. Just promise me you won't cripple the Wings' cap situation by demanding a large sum of money!
-
Uggg... the first game is the first game. I'd be more worried if we looked like this next week. Grrr... we're playing pathetic hockey right now. Babs. Lidstrom. Jebus. Anyone- talk some sense into the boys. Babcock- put Datsyuk and Zetterberg back together for a few shifts! WOOOOOO SON! Holmer doing what he does best- scoring with his ass pointed at the goalie!
-
That was a great little kick of the puck by Lebda. What a cool little move- he booted it out toward the nearest Wing, on instinct it seems. Damn it! Franzen hits the crossbar. Keep hitting the post buddy! I don't want you heating up until you've signed a nice LONG contract at a reasonable price.
-
Holy crap- I guess god reaaallly hates his neck... Hopefully he recovers quickly and learns to be safer with his firearms!
-
Wooo! A horrible musical performance followed by an awesome banner raising ceremony!
-
GO WINGS! Dear baby jebus, Please make Zetterberg score at least 3 points tonight, Datsyuk score at least 2 points, Lidstrom at least 2 and Kronwall at least 1. Thanks little buddy! Marcus

The Atlanta Falc- Thrashers' third jerseys unveiled!
Drake_Marcus replied to Cern's topic in General
Huh? Did I miss something? Was there a "design the worst football-hockey jersey hybrid" contest? -
Yeah- this matches the jersey rumoured to be the third for Tampa, and the leaker has the crediblility to back it up. Of course that misspelling doesn't help anyone.
-
Dude- the only reason he's stayed this long is because he's a tough player that plays that roll. The problem is he hasn't stepped up. He didn't taken the oppertunity given to him and run with it.
-
I miss the Malts that drew penalties too.

See that's what the intelligent people on this board understand... you know- that the effing brass praising the hell out of this kid is their way of telling him he's still in their plans and he needs to be patient- that they want him to keep playing for a spot because there's one there waiting for him. And hey- I'm not saying this is a bad move- we all knew Big Rig and Tonight Show were going to GR until the roster gets solved. But that doesn't change that they're extremely important to this organization and this move is a temporary thing that'll sort itself out in the next 12 months. Both these kids will be Red Wings before 2010.

Well aside from being wrong about Leino and Ericsson, you certainly are right about McCarty. It's a good thing real GM's wouldn't be caught dead saying a throwaway 1-dimensional fighter is more valuable than their best prospect and their most impressive new scoring prospect. Downey's an important member of this team, but don't think for a second he matters that much to the 2008 Detroit Red Wings TEAM. There's a reason why he can clear waivers time in and time out. Fighters aren't in short supply. Downey's a great team player and an important locker room presense but he's still an interchangeable part.
-
The majority of Wings players out there right now are homegrown talent. Only the very best will be good enough to play on the Wings. Just because a player could play on the Panthers doesn't mean it's a shame he didn't play here. Like others have said- it's the price of excellence.
-
People are writing him off because of his play in EVERY game since the 07 playoffs. Not just based on preseason games. If he was read to play in the NHL he would look even half decent in preseason games vs half-AHL teams.
-
Huh? They both played better than Q. Lilja actually had a pretty strong preseason, especially the first 5 or 6 games.

Friday: NY Islanders @ New Jersey Chicago @ NY Rangers Florida @ Carolina Montreal @ Buffalo Washington @ Atlanta Nashville @ St Louis Columbus @ Dallas Saturday: Montreal @ Toronto Detroit @ Ottawa St Louis @ NY Islanders NY Rangers @ Philadelphia Chicago @ Washington Atlanta @ Florida New Jersey @ Pittsburgh Carolina @ Tampa Bay Dallas @ Nashville Boston @ Minnesota Columbus @ Phoenix Los Angeles @ San Jose Vancouver @ Calgary Sunday: Phoenix@ Anaheim Colorado @ Edmonton San Jose@ Los Angeles Heh- we'll see how many of my safe picks beat the "I've got a feeling about this" picks... (I'm looking at you Phoenix and Islanders).

That'd be true if the year was 2002.

I'd hardly equate droping a 4th liner, a did-not-play-in-the-finals 4th liner, a 3rd pairing d-man and a disappointing prospect to losing Andy MacDonald and Dustin Penner then signing two old players for more than they're worth. Kopecky, Maltby, Lebda and Quincey hardly won the cup for the Wings. Lebda and Malts are certainly important pieces, which is why I'd be hesistant about moving them, but they're both the lowest on the totem pole in terms of importance. Leino has the potential to be an excellent top six guy for the Wings and he's a veteran pro hockey player (6 years in the top Finnish league). Meech needs a chance to actually play some games at some point. He's not getting younger and has to develop some time.
