You're welcome everyone! I'm so excited... my rattie and I are listening intently -
Let him do what he wants I guess... it's his life. The drama was 99% manufactured by an intensely bored Canadian hockey media this summer. I'm not sure it's all that fair to the other Leafs players, though.

ugggg they keep saying names of people I don't care about (read: anyone that's not a Red Wing). -

Hey guys- I can't get the Detroit feed online... only the FM version of the station (which is playing a lions talk show thing). Right now I'm listening to the CJAD feed and they're busy talking about Habs players. -
NHL burning questions: Western Conference

*sniff* that just gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. Wes is my new favourite sports writer. -
Larsson outplaying Howard? McCarty outplaying Donwey?

I'd title this one "The Future is Now": http://www.redwingscentral.com/camps/2008-...s/Sept22/21.php -
Dude. You're awesome.

Yeah- all hockey players should be chained up in empty rooms while waiting to play for our enjoyment!

Filppula to miss first two preseason games
Drake_Marcus replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Meh... could be much worse.... much much worse! *knocks on wood* Other teams have lost far more critical players to more serious injuries so far in the preseason. -
Maybe I fear dolphins because of a hockey related incident? Well I don't. A dolphin is a pretty lame animal to base a sports franchise around. I fear dolphins because they're aggressive swimmers.

You're a ragging *****. I fear dolphins. Your move.

I agree. I may hate Sammy's shinpad and goalie jersey assassinating ways, but he's definitely a good bargin. He provides ~40pts and a solid defensive game for less than 1.5 million. That's one hell of a bargin in the cap era*. Sammy's biggest problems are: 1. He doesn't use his body. He plays less physically than Jiri Hudler but he's 6'1". 2. He shoots randomly and without warning. His shooting percentage is horrible. He just doesn't need to fire pucks off randomly. When he doesn't shoot it's systemic- he'll hold the puck far too long during one block of games, then the next month he's shooting too often. There's apparently no happy medium for Sammy. It's either take 7 shots a game or take 0. (note that 7 shots a game is a good thing... when they hit the net) 3. He refuses to tell Babcock he's a terrible 2nd pp pointman. He may have a heavy shot, but he doesn't really aim it at the goal and he's not very good at the lateral skating and puck retention you need from a blueliner on a pp. 4. He's easy to mock. So damn easy. He's like the guy you're friends with and really like, but everyone in the group of friends teases him because he makes it too damn tempting. *unless you're talking about a freshly drafted player who's making rookie money, so no one bring a comparison up like that.

Hopefully he doesn't think 3 seasons as the Wings VP makes him GM material. He's got to put more time in as an executive before he can reach the highest executive office on a team. I certainly hope he isn't going to leave the Wings, but this isn't that big of a deal guys. He may be top 10 all time in scoring, but is he going to be top 10 all time in management? If the Wings have better managers ahead of him they won't push those guys aside to give Stevie the job just because he was a franchise player on this team.
-
I agree 100%. He'd be pushing someone else aside from the 4th line, possibly Maltby if he doesn't step his game up over the first half of the season. Maltby's stock is apparently falling fast...
-
That's the thing- he did impress during the playoffs. He impressed the Wings too much to make it a good move for them to delay his development by having him sit in the pressbox as the 13th forward instead of playing ing the top six in GR all next year (aside from call ups). Same goes for Leino. Really, this is a contest between Downey and DMac is everyone else plays like they did last year.

Team Delvecchio is screwwwwwwed on defense At least they've got both Pav and Hoss up front (which is likely the reasoning that allowed them to get shafted in the defense department!). Man oh man I'd love to see the video of these games.
-
Ugghhhh- I'd kill to go but I just spent the money on another python. How much did you pay for your tickets Dan?
-
I dunno- I'd rather he stays in GR than sit in Detroit just so he has a sniff at playing 5 mins a night. Playing on the first line in GR is probably better for him in the long run. Bring him up next season...
-
Ahhh yeah. What is LetsGoWings without goalie controversy threads? Seriously though, Howard's been dominant in the AHL at times and horrible at other times. Like all other young hockey players his flaw is inconsistency.
-
Sweet! A good team player that really helps with moral and is essential glue for this team. Can't argue with the price or the two-way contract.
-
God I hope so because otherwise I hate Florida's management that much more.

Oh no you diiiiidaaannn't. They pulled that 5 year deal at the last minute and threw the 4 year at him. From what I read he didn't reject the 5 year at all- he asked for more time because of the divorce and losing his agent (a tough thing during negotiations, even if he was the one who released him- he released him for a reason). PLUS- Feds left for business reasons in the end. That diminishes none of his huge contribution to this team through the nineties and early 2000's.
