According to The Left Wing Lock, 2010 draft pick Petr Mrazek has signed an ATO with the Griffins in the hope that he can see some time between the pipes in Grand Rapids and get some experience while they're still playing (note that ATO games like this don't count towards the limited number of pro games a player can play before they are no longer waiver exempt). I wouldn't read too much into this other than the fact that the Wings like this kid and want to get him some pro experience. The best Wings draft picks have done the ATO thing with the Griffs quite a bit in recent years.

Mursak will be given a chance to be this playoff run's Helm. What he does with that chance is up to him. When he gets it depends on who's healthy and who's playing poorly. Anyone who thinks Modano is sitting is nuts. Coaches don't sit first ballot Hall of Fame centres in the playoffs. He'd get a game at the most to light a fire under his ass. Anyone remember Maltby going in for Abdelkader in the 09 finals? Potentially a bad move looking back but it's a testament to how coaches value veterans in the playoffs.

Yeah this was a real hockey play. Dear God don't take away our blindside charges intended to injure rather than make a play on the puck. SOMEONE CALL CHICKEN LITTLE!

I didn't manage to catch the game tonight. But I can tell you why he's a first round pick-- he walked into the draft with the body of a 20+ year old player ready to play at least NHL hockey (physically) and has the raw talent to be an impact player of some variety. The thing is-- if you can play as well as he can defensively and have (nearly) the body of a pro at draft time it doesn't take a lot to push you higher up the board when it comes to talent. Same effect that allows the Wings to steal small guys with tons of talent but bean-pole bodies. As you know-- GMs aren't big fans of taking a risk in early rounds.

Am I the only person who noticed that live streams for the ND Irish playoff games were linked to on the ND Athletics website? I've been lucky enough to catch a few games that way. He's pretty responsible out there and seems to be happy enough taking charge on the PP or PK when asked to. Looked like he's one of those kids who play well within a coach's system and watches the white board during time-outs. He appeared to have a good head for the game. That's about all I could tell. I'm not exactly a talented hockey scout.

This. It's a terrible, terrible goal but people shouldn't confuse stupidity with conspiracy.

He's with the team now according to their front page: http://griffinshockey.com/news/releases/index.html?article_id=1869

They're not that old man. I wore one as a kid in the 90's...

Cite your sources son!

I was just about to ask the same thing. Must be carry over from last year.
-
Agreed. He'd really have to turn some heads to make an early jump to the AHL. Tommy McC probably scared them off that route.

Could the chip on your shoulder be any bigger? I don't think so. But enjoy loudly arguing with straw men nevertheless. I doubt it. Edmonton's been in rebuilding mode for years (see: St. Louis Blues). Colorado got worse when they traded two key players for one.

The second fight has to be given credit. But don't forget Babcock's time out and speach. Funny story: before the playoffs in 2008 the majority of the boards said the exact same thing about Dallas Drake. Of course his series tipping shift against Dallas proved everyone wrong. The point is that we won't really be able to gauge Modano's usefulness until the playoffs are over. Modano was added for the playoff season, not for the 82 game grind.

For him to go twice like that I figure O'Brian was chirping him and said something that really got Bert's goat. All I know is that second fight was a turning point (along with the time out by Babs). Thanks Bert

This sums it up perfectly. Right now she's physically ahead of the curve. For the rest of her life she'll be behind it. That sucks but all she can do is prove people wrong and use her brains to her advantage.

Hey I'm just glad we won't be playing the Blues in the playoffs.

These would be my prefered lines.

Youngsters ditching the visors
Drake_Marcus replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
That's a real shame. After seeing the horrific injuries to Malhotra and Yzerman I wouldn't be caught dead without a visor. -
I'm a huge Nyquist fan. I can't wait to see what he can do in Grand Rapids. He should help with their playoff push. No thanks. This kid has slick hands and great vision. We don't need his hands getting broken or his face being crushed. Abdelkader should be the one dropping his mitts more often.

If I could I'd name a road after him here in New Brunswick.
-
He definitely shouldn't give his education up. Abdelkader left before his senior year and ended up finishing his courses over the summer. I hope Nyquist does the same so he can eventually graduate. Good point. Then again-- the Wings would've taken him last year if he wanted to go.
-
Surprisingly good. Nice to see him publicly commit to searching for a solution to these issues. #1 and #5 are exciting.

My thoughts exactly.
