Hahaha- classic.

Woh woh there champ- let's be realistic here- the odds of correctly predicting the Wings exit are much, much higher then guessing that lottery number. At least give him a few hundred tries?
-
After a long rest the boys come out swinging- especially Cleary who wants to show off for his old team! 6-0 Wings (Cleary, Dats, Zx2, Lids, Chelios) Let's Go Wings!
-
Wow- you can post on this forum from a cell phone?
-
I'd agree with you there to a certain point, BUT I don't think we'll see 14, or 91 reused any time soon... at least I hope not! EDIT: Unless it's that original player coming home before he retires
-
Yeah, sportsnet is one of the sports networks up here- channel and all. I'd say they're no more or less reliable then TSN.
-
I think Huds NEEDS more then 7 mins to show his worth- he deserves a chance to place some solid minutes and get the experience now when he's young. I can't help but think that if the Wings gave their youngins some more resposibility they'd see them actually develop quicker. Is it really so suprising that all the great wings talent seems to pop up at age 25ish? Or could that be because they don't get a chance to see some real ice time unitl they're 24ish?
-
Huh? Do you think his astounding talent will turn off in the playoffs based on what you can glean from <7mins a night?
-
Well since I'm reading it, I might as well proof read it! My correction/comments are in bold...
-
I think the playoffs will add a completely different factor then we've seen so far: 1st line- still scoring and doing well, but clamped down hard by the other team's defenders 2nd line- mixed up, but even if not changed around we still know that Lang brings it in the playoffs and Cleary's a really hard worker who hasn't won a cup, thus he should be pretty motivated 3rd & 4th lines- our Huds and Flips are still fantastic players and I'd expect to see some points from them in the playoffs be it by sheer force of will or simply because their relative position in the lineup makes them likely to be underestimated or at least underdefended by the opposition. Defence- Lids is not to be trifled with- if the team is struggling during the playoffs we can count on Lids to pepper the enemy net

IF they do pay a steep price I certainly hope it's for someone who'll resign in the offseason and still has at least 5 years of tread left on his tires. Giving up Huds or Flip for someone like Forsberg would only make sense if we knew they'd resign with us AND knew they had a decent amount of time left. If Forsberg retires or moves back to Philly after Nashville fails to win the cup they'll look like morons. If they win the cup and he stays they'll look brilliant. ...etc. I just see it as too risky of a move for the wings in that situation. There's not enough depth in prospects for us right now, so shipping out that many prospects would have to be worth it in terms of receiving a franchise player.

So you're in the "can't teach an old dog new tricks" camp? I'm the opposite. With a good coach and proper motivation a depressingly average player can have an explosion of hard work and goal scoring like never before in his career. I think Cleary's season this year proves that. He just needs to have another burst of goals to prove to himself that it wasn't a "fluke". But regardless of whether he scores like he did in October again- he's playing like a fiend out there and getting knee deep in gritty puck battles on the boards. I'm LOVING how Cleary plays- like someone who appreciates his place on the team and is constantly giving a solid and useful effort. Throw a decent winger out with him and watch him rack up the points again.

Holmstrom re-signed for 3 years, $6M (est.)
Drake_Marcus replied to hockeyfanatic's topic in General
How long is Z locked in for again? If I remember correctly it was for a long time at a very, very reasonable price... All that matters is that Z, Dats and Homer are all still a wings when I've got my PhD. (so 4 or 5 years from now!, or maybe sooner- depends on how well my thesis writing goes ) -
Damn. It seems like everyone's rejecting my VD gifts this time of year
-
For that I give you the clap: Woh- that could read another way Oh I know- he's a freaking hosebeast! I wonder who'll be the next man to wear the C? [/sarcasm]
-
300 pts for Dats, a hattie for Hank and a smooth game from Hasek? NICE GAME BOYS!
-
HATTY! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO :clap::clap:
-
Meh. Sucks for Hasek, but hopefully that goal lights a fire under Z's butt and reminds him that he needs to score another goal! Also same goes for Cleary and Dats!
-
Maybe YOU should have two post counters: posts about posts and posts about hockey.
-
AND how sweet is this- both goals are assisted by Dats and Mat. 2pts so far for Dats and no shots on goal.
-
Mmmmm.... Poor Pavel- he's got some stiff competition in my mind for the coveted "Marcus' Favourite (Currently playing) Wing" award I still love Dats, but damn if it isn't impossible NOT to keep having the love of Z pile up each time he dominates the ice!
-
You're right. PS. you forgot basic grammar. I'm just kidding

Well to me that article reads like an attempt to soften the blow for wings fans when nothing big happens. But honestly, as long as Hitchcock walks into the offseason with the drive to add a top notch scoring winger and hopefully fixing the centre issues of the second line then I'm happy. This year isn't the last year the Wings will be cup contenders! So I'd say it's very, very foolish to make a last ditch effort to bring the cup this season by sacrificing the future, and trading Huds or Flips would have been just that. Dump J-Willy, line up a Lindstrom prodigy (which some would argue has already been done!) and make sure we've got someone nail down long term for after Hasek retires (again, some see Howard as just this, but I'm not convinced until I see him play in the NHL- not that I'm saying he's bad, but rather I'm wary about prospects until they actually hit the NHL ice). Ideally then July rolls around: Dats is still wearing a Wings jersey, Lids is signed on for 2 more years minimum, Hasek has proven he's not as injury prone now that he's watching himself and protecting his groin, a great future defense prospect is working out and we have some Lids like career players to look forward to. I love knowing that a player who's respected and awed league wide is a career Red Wing. But then again who doesn't want that for their favourite team?
