What? Toews has never broken the 70pt mark in the NHL. Not once. 54pts as a rookie. 69pts last year and 68pts this year. He has 191pts in 222 games. Toews is highly unlikely to come close to Yzerman's legacy. Guess how many people in NHL history have scored more points in one season than Yzerman? 2. Gretzky and Lemieux. Think about that. Yzerman didn't phone it in on his way to 6th all time in points. I'm not worried about Yzerman's legacy-- he's already cemented his place in NHL history. No one else can change that-- the record books have been written. His excellence is well documented. When Gretzky beat out Howe's NHL records (note that no one has beaten his records for most goals scored in professional hockey-- NHL and WHL combined) it didn't change Howe's legacy. It's hard to imagine Chicago won't get stiffed on those trades-- they have zero leverage. Everyone knows their hands are tied. And now all of the players have their Cups and are focused on nailing down their financial security for the foreseeable future.

And apparently word from the recent GM meetings is that no one is going to take Huet or Campbell off Chicago to do them a favour-- everyone is anxious to steal young talent from them. They know Chicago won't be able to match offer sheets so the rumour is that things are going to be real interesting. Apparently Sharp and Versteeg are thought to be on the way out due to cap issues.

When asked after Hossa's shoulder problem was reveled this year Holland categorically denied that Hossa was playing through a shoulder injury in the finals. He had no motive for lying about that so I believe Holland 100%. Oh, and Datsyuk put a point per game up in the finals. So Hossa can still suck it. Clever.

With Datsyuk playing injured we needed Hossa to do something, anything in the finals to earn his ******* paycheck. Hossa not only failed us he ate up more than 10% of the cap and in doing so prevented us from getting a useful player who could contribute in the finals. Hossa can kiss my ass.

No shocker there. Williams and Lebda have been confirmed as no-goes. I'm a bit worried about Lilja but I think that's all dependent on what happens with Bertuzzi. If Holland doesn't hear back from Bert soon I wouldn't be shocked to see him re-sign Lilja cheap and just wait on Bert. I'm not terribly worried about Bert anyway... I'd like to see the Wings get younger if they can so unless Bert is willing to sign cheaply or at least reasonably they might as well try and get a younger player who can provide the same thing.

I don't get why people think this is so likely right now. Holland's done that when his picks were very low. This pick is among the highest picks they've had since 1991. If anything I'd think Holland might trade up before he trades down. If he does trade down I doubt it will be to the 2nd round. Last year's pick was 8 spots after this one and he only traded 2 spots down.

Assuming you ignore some of the words in my sentence that comment could be seen as clever or insightful. So congrats... I guess.

just seeing the top row of shirts and hats makes me sick to my stomach. But then I realized that winning the Cup will only further hurt Chicago's ability to retain their team. Niiiice. Chicago can suck it. With Kane and Toews choking in the finals it's clear that they need their depth to really thrive. It'll be nice to see that depth fall apart this summer!

Here's the problem-- if you want to trade Cleary he's at a low value right now. He had a rough season last year and struggled with groin problems all year. I really believe Cleary can be a 20+20 guy again. He just needs to come to camp healthy. Last year he never managed to shake off the groin issues then the shoulder injury made it worse for him. If our bottom 6 could've played well in the playoffs the Wings definitely could have gone farther.

Seeing Stevie hand Vlady the cup while he's in the wheel chair still gives me chills.

Toews is slightly overrated at this point. He's considered a superstar but really is just a star right now. He'll probably get there but right now he just isn't the super elite player people say he is (again it's worth noting that he has the potential to be that kind of player). Yeah... if you look at what Yzerman had to work with in the 80's it's not even close. Chicago is bursting at the seams with talent.

If you count the Lashoff and Coatzee signings (FA kids taken after the 09 rookie camp... Nill called them "bonus draft picks") the 2009 draft year is looking like a real gem for Detroit. Ferraro has been the biggest disappointment and in all honesty it's highly unlikely he doesn't bounce back this season. I'd be a bit shocked if Ferraro was a bust... it seems like he's got too much talent and character to disappear.

He scored 13 goals and 27pts in 43 games for the Oilers. Last year he scored 10 goals and 21pts in 63 games for the Islanders/Sens. His goals, points and points per game increased thus his salary won't stay level or decline.

He hasn't played hockey in the last 18+ months. He horrifically dislocated his hip the season before last and spent more than a year rehabbing it but still couldn't make an appearance in a single game last season. All signs point toward the conclusion that his NHL career is never going to happen.

A few years back Holland proposed a rule change to weight the picks by post-season performance. It was approved and I believe the rule's been in place since the 06-07 season.

He turned 19 in the middle of last season... so he was 18 when he played his first half (or so) of his rookie AHL season.

I'm surprised he's getting it before Franzen... But I'm very, very, very excited to buy a Howard action figure for my office My wish list includes a new Yzerman figure (a reissue of the Yzerman with Cup but using the recent Messier Cup model since the original Y figure had a cup that was grey and had no writing on it) and Franzen. I was pretty pissed when they scrapped that Ozzie figure last year so McFarlane better not betray me again

You're definitely right. Tatar has the potential to be a first line player if he continues to progress like this. It's pretty rare to excel as an 18 year old in the AHL (especially since this was his first year playing NA hockey and his first time playing a hectic 82 game schedule).
