mmmm tasty Tonight was an excellent game by Howie. He had the game in the palm of his hand multiple times and always came up on top.

Who's the veteran? Isn't it supposed to be the veteran that helps the kid along? Asking Ericsson to constantly cover Lebda's stupid decisions was the problem with that pairing. Only one of them could hide behind the rookie excuse.

I have a hard time believing that. Think about it-- Holland didn't have to be cap compliant at that point in the summer. He would've gladly signed Hossa to such a ridiculous contract and simply traded Hudler's rights after arbitration. The real issue is that we lost Sammy because of the Hudler situation. If Holland knew Hudler would be gone prior to the start of free agency there's no question he would've re-signed Sammy. I know, right?

Yeah, I have no idea what Boudreau is talking about. Bringing Crosby's name into the discussion makes no sense. Did Crosby get a free pass on a boarding based suspension? No. So where's the comparable? You have to play a physical game to get in trouble for hitting.

And who won the Conn Smythe that year? Lidstrom. I'm pretty sure he was drafted by the Wings.

If you throw enough darts you're bound to hit a bulls eye. This suspension is laughable given that Cooke is given free reign to head-hunt. And no-- I don't give a s*** that Cooke's hit didn't result in an on-ice penalty. The NHL's given suspensions for non-penalized stuff before.

Durrrr... because if there's one thing we don't need on this Wings team it's a guy who can put 60pts up on the 3rd line?

Without a salary cap it was easier to add talent that could take some pressure off the top guys. This year? They lost Hossa, Sammy and Hudler... guess who felt all that pressure? The big guys.

Out of those three choices the Blackhawks are the only ones who've proved their current roster is competent in the playoffs. Both the 'nucks and the Sharks have been epic failures so far.

Yeah, but that player wasn't the best player in the league. Ovi is. And if there's one thing we know about the NHL is that they have a two-tiered system. Did you read the article? It lists the rule that states Ovi can't have the auto-suspension applied to him because the infraction occurred more than 41 games apart. Also, am I the only guy who remembers how many extremely dangerous and highly irresponsible hits Messier did? The NHL named a frigging leadership award after him based solely on his famous NY Cup promise and have completely ignored how dirty he was.

I laughed too. As if this game said anything more than their wins, GA/G and GF/G did. Man Pierre just says anything that pops into his sycophantic little mind. It's hilarious trying to nail him down to one position over the course of a broadcast-- he's always the biggest fan of the winning team and is loath to say anything that isn't sucking up hardcore.

Franzen is far, far, far too consistent a goal scorer to be so doubtful of him. This is probably the best answer yet.

The biggest problem I had with the bulls*** Cooke non-suspension is that he's known around the league for his dirty head-shots and is always taking liberties with other players. On top of that the hit itself was incredibly dirty-- whether there's a rule for it or not doesn't make the hit any more reasonable. And yes, you can suspend someone for something they didn't get penalized for on the ice! Given that this is Ovi's second boarding suspension I think he deserves a game suspension even though the Cooke non-suspension is complete horses***. Edit According to Puck Daddy the repeat offender thing isn't a concern:

I like seeing that. When guys like Eaves score and our top end offensive players are playing up to expectations the Wings win. Right now Lids, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen and Rafalski are pulling their weight. Is it any surprise that the Wings have gone 6-2-2 over the last 10? That's 14 of a possible 20 points. And that's what you can expect when your best players play like your best players! Give me a power drill and an auger bit and I'll dig him out of there.
