I'm sure the management's choice for captain will be in line with that of the players. Management isn't so out of touch that they don't know how the players feel about the locker room leadership.

Change is scary

Filppula for Vanek, are you for real? That's a horrible deal for the Wings.

League takeover of cash-strapped Devils may be inevitable

If Jesus taught us anything it's that society shouldn't be concerned with the poor. ... no wait, I'm confused how capitalism is compatible with the teachings of the Bible. Edit, ignore that. While I don't mean it to be I did just toss a grenade there in terms of off-topic discussion. -
Do you watch Semin play often? Semin is softer than a bag of kittens. Also, Hossa was never considered a poor defender. He was lauded for his 2 way play long before coming to the Wings.
-
Him being open to coming back doesn't change the dire financial situation in NJ.
-
After Jones got 4 mill a year as the reward for scoring 37pts this year I can't really agree with you there.
-
I believe it's referred to as wishlisting.

But the Sharks are HUGE and full of big, tough forwards... this goes directly against everything we've been told Holland should be (exclusively) drafting for.
-
It's definitely fair to say that the last CBA evened the playing ground in a measurable way even outside of the regular season. We've seen regular season parity for a while now but playoff parity has never been more apparent.
-
Statistically speaking that's always the safe answer. A player of Datsyuk's calibre is extremely rare no matter where you draft on the board (put it this way-- if a player of Datsyuk's calibre entered the league just once a year, more than half the teams in the league would have one.

This represents either some brilliant parody or a shocking lack of understanding.

A) yes, Semin would do that to Franzen. B) Semin is not going to take a 2million dollar pay cut. Brunstrom was brought in to compete for a job at training camp and spent his season in GR as a depth forward. He cost zero assets to acquire and thus was a perfectly sensible signing. If the Wings sign Brunner it's the exact same situation. Zero downside. If he thrives he makes the team better, if he fails to thrive he gets buried in the minors and didn't cost a pick or prospect to obtain anyway so whatever.

All of the Staal brothers currently in the NHL are superior to Abdelkader in every possible way.
-
He says to his own sock.
-
Nash is grossly overpaid for his level of production. No thanks- someone will overvalue him. The Wings can't afford to trade prospect at this stage of the team's lifecycle

I read somewhere that replacing Holland will instantly make Lidstrom, Datsyuk and Zetterberg 5 years younger!
-
Holland can give him 10mil because he's one of only a small group of GMs who have owners that are willing to pay out on huge long term contracts AND has more than enough cap room to do so , all while being able to offer an environment that NHLPA polls indicates is highly desirable to players around the league. (and no, I don't care that cougar denies the results of said poll) Yes there are 30 teams who will want to take a run at Parise but only a handful have a realistic shot of landing him unless he's only looking for a short term deal or isn't interested in winning. I don't thing we have Parise locked down but the Wings are in a better position than most teams. Not signing him would cause a great deal of drama online but it's not like we'd be losing out on a generational talent. There are plenty of ways to improve the team outside of the 2012 UFAs.
-
Anyone who wants Semin at anything more than 4mil is nuts. He would instantly make this year's Franzen look like a super gritty workaholic. There's a reason why Washington was happy to see him go. Why would we want his drama when he only produced 4 more pts than Hudler with way more ice time and more than twice the cap hit? In a cap world he's not worth the risk. If he was willing to take a real salary cut things might be different but the KHL will throw tons of cash at him. He's got significantly more skill than Radulov so one would assume he'd dominate a league that was ruled by Rad. . The financial situation in NJ is the worst in the league. Their cash flow would have to drastically improve by July 1st. Even a Cup win would like not be enough to get them out of the red.
-
Lol wut? Making an offer to this kid has absolutely nothing to do with Parise. Even if you (incorrectly) assumed there was only one spot on the roster your rage still doesn't make sense. The only way your response can be interpreted as anything but a spastic, thoughtless reaction is if you believed the Wings were at 49 out of 50 on the contract limit AND trades were illegal.
-
lol painfully soft, inconsistent, wants to be paid for the seasons he had 3 years ago and not his latest seasons, f*** NO.
-
You realize that Babcock spells it out in this translated article (I'll assume it's valid for the sake of argument). They'd be signing Holmstrom to keep Lidstom on and would be doing it at a stupidly low price. If last year's Holmstrom's your 12th best forward I suppose it isn't the end of the world. *shrug* He can still be effective on the 2nd PP unit. If signing him cheaply is what it takes to keep Lidstrom so be it.

Alcohol doesn't make you a different person it can just amplify certain traits and remove inhibitions. If you're a misogynist ******* when you're drunk it's not some kind of demonic possession... that s*** is just normally under the surface. "I was drunk" isn't carte blanche for douchebaggadry. All that being said... he isn't the only entitled douchebag in the Atlantic Division. A certain Boston forward from Halifax has been thrown out of his share of clubs for being an obnoxious dickbag (a family member of mine witnessed Brad Marchand's antics in a bar this summer after he won the Cup).

California Seals. f*** yeah! Edit: image resize, holy s***.
