I've been waiting years for someone to to this type of analysis, so THANKS. I'd love to see it done for all seasons since regular-season OT began, but that's a gigantic project no one would want to take on, I reckon. IMO every game should be worth the same number of points, and the only way to do that is to have a 3-2-1-0 system.

It's from a Kings-Wings game (L.A. home broadcast) early in the 2007-08 season.

One thing the Wings could do that would NOT be tampering with tradition (IMO) and would move a lot of merchandise would be to go back to (maybe only occasionally) the old reverse logo. From the early 1970s to early 1980s, they had two precisely opposite versions of the winged wheel logo, one for the white jerseys and the other for the red. It was a brilliant idea and as far as I know has only been done by one other team, the Leafs, who still have a blue leaf on their white sweater and a white leaf on their blue sweater. Every time I see the now-mothballed second logo (which has a white dot in the centre instead of red, and with everything else the reverse of current), I get nostalgic. Here's a link showing some alternatives that could be revived if they ever go to some sort of third jersey. http://www.sportslogos.net/team.php?id=11

I agree Priority 1 is to extend Babcock. But Priority 2 is to get Z signed long-term. They cannot let him get to UFA status next year. Everything else you mention would be nice, but getting Z locked up this summer is imperative.

Up until the playoffs I assumed Chelios would be back, and I was fine with that. But he really seemed to lose a few steps at the end of the year, and sitting him down was the correct decision. Aside from that, if the Wings keep all six of their playoff d-men (which assumes they re-sign Stuart) they would not be able to also keep Meech, Quincey and Chelios. Meech and Quincey can no longer be sent down without clearing waivers. Personally I really liked Meech's game when he played a lot in February (in fact, I liked it more than Lebda's, altho Lebda surprised me with how effective he was in the playoffs) and I really liked what I saw of Quincey in last year's playoffs. Then there's the fact that Ericsson seems to be ready to step into the lineup. He can still be sent down to GR next season, I believe, but if he's as good as he's touted I'd like him getting NHL experience. Add it all up and I hope Holland talks Chelios out of returning. If Stuart does not re-sign, I guess the Wings might be more inclined to bring Chelios back. I'd let Hasek retire unless the Wings have decided Howard will never develop into an NHL-calibre netminder. Regardless, the money has to work, i.e. he can't make any more than he made this year. (Does anyone remember the terms of his deal -- isn't there a sizable bonus if the Wings win the Cup?) I'd be OK bringing Drake back but I imagine he will retire. Helm appears ready to play and I thought Abdelkader looked ready when he was in the lineup. Plus Kopecky will be back, and Ville Leino is coming in altho I expect he'll be in GR by November. Holland was quoted in one of the papers a few weeks ago as saying the Wings prefer to keep guys in the minors for two or three seasons, so even Helm is not a lock to be on the Wings next season. But they should be trying to add one or two young guys each year -- say Helm and Ericsson next year, Abdelkader and Kindl the year after that, and so on.

All the "doctors" on here are full of diagnoses as well as analyses of what it all means to the Wings' chances. No one seems to be talking about Franzen's well-being. Personally, when I hear about persistent headaches without (as far as we know) any of the other symptoms of a concussion, I start getting worried that it could be something more serious (not that a concussion in itself isn't very, very serious). Let's hope it turns out to be nothing serious, but based on what he reported to the team, sitting him out and running as many tests as necessary is absolutely the right thing to do. No one with the Wings should or will be trying to rush him back until he's been properly diagnosed.

Hi. I'm looking for someone who could record a few games for me in March (DVD or even VHS) when I'm going to be away. I've been documenting the season by recording every Wings game and then condensing them into highlight packages. It's a nifty little archive. The way my cable system/Centre Ice package is set up, I won't be able to record about four or five games when I'm out of the country, so I'm hoping I can find someone who will be able to record them for me. In exchange I would trade some stuff from my collection of full games and self-made highlight DVDs dating back to 1986. Anyone interested in working something out should send me a PM. Tnx.

No one has replied to this yet (which probably means it isn't gonna happen) but I would still love to hear from anyone who might be able to help. I can definitely make it worth your while -- have tons of Wing highlights and full games to offer in trade. -
Hi. I've been documenting the Wings season by recording each game, but I managed to accidentally erase last Friday's game (Min 1 @ Det 3) before I could dub the highlights. If anyone has that game and is willing to make a copy for me, I'd be happy to trade something from my extensive collection of Wings games and highlight packages. Please msg me, tnx. PWF
