1/15 GDT: Blue Jackets 5 at Red Wings 6 (OT)
chrisdetroit replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
But you have to consider the timing. Last year we lost Franzen in game 3 and he didn't return until the end of February. The Wings did not have the significant injuries (except for Modano) until recently and thank God they banked alot of points early. Cleary and Dats will most likely only miss 5 more games (including tonight) because of the fortunate timing of the all star break. Howard is day to day so my guess is he play Tuesday or Thursday. I don't think that this is nearly as bad as last year. We only have two GR guys playing for a significant period of time. Our extra forward and D-man get more minutes. We will survive and most likely still win the division and finish 2nd or worst case 3rd. -
Let's see Madano cut by a skate Dats breaks his hand falling over another guy Cleary hit by a puck Ozzie tears a groin muscle Draper tears a groin muscle Hommer get hit by a puck Stuart elbowed in the jaw Other than Ozzie and Drapes, age has nothing to do with it and other than Stuart's injury, an enforcer would not help. Just plain old bad luck.... hahahah. Sure Montreal is going to agree to that.

I haven't seen Mindfly's loss prediction yet... -
Red Wings asked NHL not to pick Zetterberg for all star game
chrisdetroit replied to Kingston's topic in General
I was actually naive enough to think that the League would pick the best players for the ASG, but after seeing their picks, I realized that I gave them to much credit. I don't want any of the Wings to play. I'd prefer they rest and it's a stupid exhibition game that I never watch. I thought the new plan was a good idea but then they just threw it in the toilet (IMO) when they came out with the picks. It's not just the Wings. Philly also only has 1 guy. The #2 team in the West and the #1 team in the east have a combined total of 2 all stars. How does the league expect us to take them seriously. They basically have said they don't care who the best players are they are picking who they want for the all star game. And that pisses me off. -
Half empty huh? The Wings defense is ranked in the middle of the league. I guess that's "poor" by our standards but teams like Colorado would love to have our defensive stats.

Game 3 against San Jose. Wings down 2 games to none at home and are up by 1 goal in the game. Last minute or 2 of the game and Howard lets in a softie. Wings lose in OT when Lids breaks his stick. If you remember, the Wings dominated game 4. If Howard doesn't let in that softie it's probably 2-2 in games. He did and the Sharkies go up 3-0. Season over. Howard was not great in the playoffs. You are right the refs killed us but Howard wasn't great.

You haven't been paying attention. It will be Crosby and Ovie - Just like the Winter Classic, the Olympics, the HBO Special, the games on versus, etc. I read that they were going to change the format of the playoffs so the Western Conference 8 team playoff is only an exhibition and the Eastern Conference Finals winner will be awarded the Cup. Washington and Pittsburgh are favored to play in that series.
-
We have the 2nd best record in the entire league and we have only 1 guy going to the all star game. Honestly, I wish Lids could have the time off also but I can't believe that none of the other Wings were picked. The worst in the league Oilers have 3? Are you kidding me? This is a joke.

What were the odds that they were going to win against a young fast team in Colorado as the 3rd game in 4 nights with travel the night before and a shaky Ozzie in net? That's why hockey is a great game, much of it is mental and the boys may be fired up to play strong for Stuie. Vancouver played last night also and they only have two goal scorers. 4-3 Wings

Cute. Nothing like a little negativity.
-
Well said. Hockey is the only sport besides boxing in which you will see a genuine fight. There are people that watch it just for that reason. I'm not saying that is good or bad just that it is a fact. The game has changed. Teams rarely win anymore by intimidating their opponents.

Every time there is an inury we get these post. "I knew a guy that broke his jaw and never played again." or "I broke my jaw once when playing hockey and I was out for 2 years" or "4-6 weeks no way, it will be at least 3 years". Give it a break people. Nobody on here has any detailed knowledge of the injury so WE DON'T KNOW how long he will be out. Stop with all the frickin negativity already. If Cleary missed 19 games which is about 6 weeks, not having any further info, I'd expect Staurt to miss about the same. Fortunately, part of this time period includes the all star break so he might not miss 19 games but the time period is probably about the same. Incidently, the Wings typically play around 15 games a month.

The lucky bounce goal didn't matter because Helm scored a solid goal right after. The Wings average 2.80 GAA which I think is less than 3. Yesterday you said that Khabibulin was the better goalie but he gave up 5 goals.
-
Didn't watch the game? The 3rd (tying) was a bad goal by Ozzie. If he stops that, the Wings win 5-2
-
Exactly. I wish none of our guys would go.
-
Save percentage is an AVERAGE. Osgood has not played enough games to even have a statistically meaningful save % and the Wings average less than 30 SA/G. You should stick to just predicting a loss every game instead of trying to justify it with statistics that you don't understand.
-
Why the hell not? They win games every week that you tell us they are going to lose.
-
Based on "obvious and historical reasons" they should have lost Sunday, the day after Christmas when they had to fly to Minnesota and play the same day. They also should have lost Monday the 2nd night of back-to-backs with travel in between, playing without Cleary, and starting Ozzie against a young, fast well rested team. And then there was Wednesday which was the 3rd game in 4 days against a team that was 2 points behind us. 4-1 Wings Why bother predicting a loss every game...
-
The rain feezes when it hits the ice causing an uneven surface. Crosby hits a rut and blows out his knee. Gone for the season. Priceless. I'm watching for the same reason that people watch NASCAR - for the wrecks...
-
Oh Christ. Here we go with the "I knew somebody who broke his ankle once and died from it". Did you break it in the same place as Clearly? Did you have top notch sports doctors and trainers? Were you the same age as Cleary? Were you in top notch physical condition? Spare us the comparisons
-
Well technically, he is on pace for 28.94 goals/year which is close enough to 30. If he only picks up the pace a little he gets 30 which is about what was expected. 1 goal on Sunday puts him on pace for 30.

Well, if you were awake during "Probability and Statistics 101" you would know that one of the most important thing is the sample size. You cannot draw any conclusions about a goalie's statistics based on 8 games. The original post was that "he has not had a good game since game 7 of the 2009 SCF" and that my friends is just plain wrong. He has not been consistantly good through his 8 games this year but he has had a couple of very good games. As far as Mr. Negativity Mindfly's comments about them not counting because they were early in the season and against a bad team, well those are just stupid comments but that's Mindfly who last week said that Philly never gets blown out and he said that 2 days before the 5-0 loss to the awesome Florida Panthers. hahahah. Did you see the 2 goals that Z scored against Luongo. Now those were bad goals.. But Luogo is an awesome goaltender...
-
I missed him during the 2009 playoffs. Where was he? No you are not. There are other people making the same silly connection. How was the defense between the Olympics last year and the first of December this year? So if McCrimmon is the problem what happened in March, April, October and November? Last I checked McCrimmon was running the defense through those months and we did pretty good. Oh for Christ's sake. Ozzie has had a couple of outstanding games this year against Chicago and against New Jersey. Your hate is blinding you..

Exactly. When the Wings are fired up for a game they usually win it and I would expect that they are fired up for Ozzie today. Alot of NHL hockey is psychological. With the Wings, talent is not an issue they have one of the most taented teams in the league. When they lose it's either they aren't playing hard, the are fatigued or they run into some bad luck. I don't think that the first will be an issue today and they shouldn't be overly tired so unless they run into some bad luck they should win and my guess is that they will also be fired up for Vancouver on Wednesday but we will see. Go Wings You said all 7 of their losses were close games. I pointed out that that was not correct. Now you are making excuses for the ones that were not.

Pittsburgh 5 Philly 1 Did you convieniently forget that game? Or how about Montreal 3 Philly 0 I guess getting shutout doesn't count as a "bad loss" And I'm not sure that I would be bragging about an 8-7 win over anybody even Tampa When you make up s*** to support you argumet, you lose credibility.
