Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs

Exactly. If you go to this website they simulate the results of everygame and currently have the Wings at a 72.7% chance to make it. The simulation is based on the teams with the better record beating the teams with the lesser record and it is weighted in favor of the home team. http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL.html Even though Edmonton is in 8th right now, their chance of making it is only 42%.

Holland: "We don't need depth...Need a top guy"

Why would we be interested in Yandle? I don't see him being better than Smith in a couple of years. We have 9 D men. Kenny is not going to trade for a D-man unless he is a top pairing type guy and IMO that's not Yandle.

    Mr Holland.....

Dear Mr. Holland, Please don't listen to these GM wannabees. Don't give up our best prospects for the flavor of the month or your team will wind up like the Sharks. Doug Wilson always chases the flavor of the month and now he has one of the weakest prospect pools in the league. Remeber Brent Burns who everyone wanted last year? San Jose now has him playing forward. Oh, and Mr. Holland, thanks for landing the top UFA forward in Damien Brunner that all 30 teams wanted. And also thanks for landing the top UFA D-man in Doug Dekeyser that everybody was after. Keep up the good work. The future looks very bright for the Wings.

    3/28 GDT : Red Wings 0 at Sharks 2

I'll bet you had a bad feeling about the 1st Aneheim game, then the 2nd and of course the game in Phoenix. Even a broken clock is right twice a day... LOL Wings 4-1

    Iginla Traded to Pittsburgh

Right now the Pens are 11th in the league in GA/G, just ahead of Columbus. I'm not sure how getting Iginla helps their defense which is clearly their biggest weakness. Don't forget the 1997 Wings. The Pens were favored last year to and they didn't make it out of the first round.

Wings Make Offer to Danny D!

It would be great BUT. I don't see Babcock putting a rookie with no professional hockey experience in immediately. I just can't believe that he would. If Danny wants to play in the NHL immediately, he will pick a team that will be willing to do that and sorry, but that probably isn't the Wings. In fact, I can't imagine that any team will commit to playing him immediately unless they have nothing to lose - no hope for the playoffs. Danny has a toough decision to make. The AHL for a good team or the NHL for a crappy team.
  8. That is totaly conjecture. Nobody knows how many points it will take to get in. They are guessing based on previous years. But this year is NOT like previous years. Nobody picked Chicago and Anaheim to have the sucess that they are having. And 48 games is a small sample size. After 40 or so games, the Wings lead the league in points last year, but if you had extrapolated that over 82 games, your results would have been completely wrong. You can't take a small sample like 30 games, then project that winning percentage over the last 18 games and come up with anything that is statistically significant. The teams that are currently .500 or below with big negaitve GF-GA are the ones that are in trouble. Edmonton, Calgary, Colorado, Nashville, Columbus, Dallas (1 point over .500) and Phoenix. Those are the 7 non-playoff teams. All .500 or below and all with a -6 or worse GF-GA. They don't have to surge. If they and everybody else wins at the same rate, they are in.

    Trading Filppula

Why do people keep saying "if the Wings are out of the playoffs at the trade deadline?" That's just not going to happen unless they go on a massive losing streak. Look at the western conference standings. Especially the column that tells how teams are doing in the last 10 games. Teams that have won 6 or more of the last 10 that are not leading their divisions ....St. Louis (6-4-0), Columbus (6-0-4), LA (6-4-0). That's it. Everybody else had 5 or less wins in the last 10 including the Wings. The point is that the teams that we are fighting for a playoff spot with are not winning consistantly. I expect that this will go down to the last week. The Wings will be in the mix until the end. Fil score 23 goals last year - the same at Patrick Kane. Is Kane a goal scorer? Z had 22.

    Datsyuk Leaving?!

This is crap. If you were Pavel, would you go the the Red Wings brass and tell then that you are definitely leaving 1 1/2 years from now? No. He may have told them that he was thinking about it. That would not surprise anybody. But no way he has even made the decision.

Nyquist called up, Tatar sent down

Huh? Nyquist leads the entire AHL in points, but you think that he is not the future. THAT is what makes no sense.

    wings arent winning the cup

The odds of ANY team winning the Cup are horrible. In fact the latest odds have Chicago as the favorite at ... 5:1. That's only a 20% chance and that is the BEST odds. So to pick any team to not win the Cup is well, not to tough. Remember LA last year?
  13. What a load of crap. Franzen is useless. You didn't watch the last 2 games, he was awesome. Bert's not going to do much. You have a crystal ball? We have no consistant scorer? . Brunner has 1 goal less than Sydney Crosby.

Franzen Is The Wings Most Undeserved Whipping Boy

Franzia is well deverved of his whipping boy status, by his own admittance that he gets bored in the NHL and doesn't give 100% all the time... No. He said that he gets bored, not that he doesn't give 100%. If you have followed the Franzen saga since he was a rookie you would understand that his problem is in his confidence. There have been several articles written about how he is extremely shy and lacks confidence. It seems that his confidence comes and goes. When it is low, he plays passively. Of course this makes him a candidate for the LGW whipping boy of the month, though Cleary seems to be moving up the ranks...
  15. And your pessimism is based on what? There is still 7 weeks left in the season and all of the doctors have indicated that it is not a serious injury and he should start skating next week. There are too many Negative Nancies on this forum.
  16. I think that the divisional playoff is the best part. The first 2 rounds, we will not have to leave our own time zone. This is huge!

3/3 GDT : Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 1 (SO)

The Wings will be amped for this. They WILL beat the Hawks in regulation. It would be great to see Kane get Kronwalled.

    2/27 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Kings 2

I didn't see the game, but I had the same thought. The Wings lost because they didn't score. Even if the officiating was poor, LA only scored 2 goals which means we had the chance tp at least get to overtime. 1 goal almost never wins a game.

    2/27 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Kings 2

There was no possible way that they could have beat Vancouver on Sunday and they not only beat them, they embarassed them. They were playing with 8 injuries, less than 24 hours from their last game and using a goalie that was supposed to be resting. Vancouver had only lost 4 times in regulation. 8-3 and they outshot Vancouver like 13-2 in the 2nd period. Just like there was no possible way that they could lose to Columbus 3 nights before. So much for predictions. Wings 4-2.

    2/27 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Kings 2

You "smell a loss" but will be optimistic? For God's sake man, pick one. Win or Loss. You can't have it both ways.

    2/24 GDT : Canucks 3 at Red Wings 8

Let's see, the Wings are playing the 2nd time in less than 24 hours, they have 8 guys out with injuries including the back-up goalie that was supposed to start. They are playing one of the best teams in the league who are well rested and only have 1 injury. Our powerplay and pk are near the worst in the league. Taking that all into account, there are people that still feel that need to come on here and predict a loss. I guess I don't understand the point of that. I'm going with a robbery. Jimmy is going to steal the game.

    Mursak on waivers

No way he clears waivers. I'm not sure I understand this move. They could send Tartar or Anderson down without having to clear wiavers both have been good but aren't going to be here when everyone gets healthy. We still have lots of forwards out so room shouldn't be an issue. What is this all about?

    No need to panic

If he went chasing the flavor of the month every year like San Jose does you'd be happy. BUT look at San Jose, they have depleated their prospects to the point where their prosepect are LAST in the NHL. But hey, they always seem to land the hot commodity. A hell of a price to pay. Mortgage the future for the flavor of the month.. LOL We could probably get a top D man for Nyquist, Tartar, Smith, etc. No thanks.
  24. chrisdetroit

    No need to panic

Brunner has the potential to be a start. In fact if he wasn't 26 he'd be in the running for Rookie of the Year. Smith has the potential to be a star. Nyquist Tartar Mrazek All of these guys are under 30 and highly rated by the "experts" but I don't mean to ruin your pessimism with facts. Huh? Other than not meeting the age requirement, Brunner is in the running for Rookie of the Year. WHEN exactly is it time to decided he has potential? When it agrees with your point?
  25. I never said that just making the playoffs was good enough. At the start of the season, there were LOTS of people that said that we wouldn't even make the playoffs. I am just pointing out what I said at that time. We will make the playoffs. Beyond that who knows? How many people thought the Kings would win the Cup last year? I don't buy all the doom and gloom crap. Last year we were the #1 team in the league at the trade deadline. We have some high level talent - Datsyuk and Z, some guys with really high upside - Smith, and Brunner and highly rated group of prospects. I'm not sure why you are expecting "bad times" Detroit Red Wings TEAM BREAKDOWN: Strengths: The Red Wings have a balanced and deep prospect pool. Brendan Smith and Gustav Nyquist have put in their time in the minors and are ready for NHL duty, while the next wave including scoring winger Tomas Jurco and goalie Petr Mrazek are making their professional debuts in 2012-13. Skill, hockey sense, and work ethic are the hallmarks of their deep and talented forward pool. There is a steady stream of defenseman at all levels of play, including junior prospects and second-round picks in 2011 Ryan Sproul and Xavier Ouellet each with the potential to crack the Wings' top-four defensemen in the futur
