IMO they should trade Niemi for some more of those fabulous prospects and sign Sharp. They can then start Huet and bring in a rookie to alternate games with him. I just don't think that it would be wise to lose Sharp and keep Niemi. Niemi gave up almost 4 goals/game in the finals. I don't think he's that great...

Hossa has a carreer point per game average of 0.925 over 777 regular season games and 0.758 over 120 playoff games. This is an unbelievable difference and it is LONG TERM over hundreds of games. The guy's numbers OVER HIS CAREER plumment when it comes to playoffs. Elite player - yes, but only in the regular season. Before you say that most players numbers drop in the playoffs, look at other players numbers. Nobody comes close...

what fans? I'm thinking that everybody jumps off the bandwagon and sell outs are a thing of the past. hahahahhahahaha This is great! If the goal was to win ONE cup and the go back to being an also ran then yes, they suceeded just like Tampa and Carolina. If the goal is to be have a shot at the Cup every year like their big brothers in Detroit, then they failed miserably... Last one out, turn off the lights. The party is over. Why on earth would he want to stay? Everybody else is leaving?

Maybe my reading comprehension is not good then because this is what you said. With that being said however, I honestly believe if given the choice 30 out of 30 NHL GMs would rather build a team around a player like Getzlaf at 25 rather then a player like Zetterberg at almost 30. This is the part of your post that I disagree with. IMO, this is a ridiculous thing to say. Not that Getzlaff is better, younger, less injury prone, etc. It's ridiculous to say that all 30 GM's would pick Getzlaff over Z. Certainly some would but not all 30.
-
I guess we are arguing semantics. You said most. I agree that there are some. Getzlaff is certainly a skilled player which I think is more important than the "big, mean, Canadian" parts.
-
I'm thinking that most GM's don't care if he's big, mean, or Canadian. (Brian Burke excluded).
-
I am not arguing who is better. My isssue is that you think that every single one of the 30 GM's agree with you and that is a stupid thing to suggest. You are correct in that I made a typo with "no" instead of "know". If you scan all of my posts you might even be able to find a few more typos over last few hundred posts. Actually your post was well thought out and clearly written until you ended it by saying all the GM's agree with you. And my reading comprehesion is fine thank you.
-
This makes no sense at all. First you say that it is increadibly close but Z fits the team better, then you say 30 out of 30 GM's would chose Getzlaff. Ok in your opinion Getzlaff is better. Fine. You are entitled to your opinion but 100% of the GM's are not going to agree with you. Maybe some of them but ALL of them? Get over yourself already. 30 out of 30 GM's no more about hockey than you do.

Blackhawks doing their best to embrace change
chrisdetroit replied to redwingmachine's topic in General
Except for Hossa, this was pretty much the same line-up that they had in '08 when they got rolled in the playoffs by the Wings. So what's teh difference? This year they added Hossa who was a playoff no show and they added John Madden. Chemistry made the difference and that's now gone. I expect that they will go back to being a good team but not an elite team. The best teams in the west will be Vancouver, Chicago and Detroit. San Jose took a big step back losing Rob Blake and Nabaokov. -
Hahahaha Actually it is fantastic to see the Hawks lose all of their depth guys 2 weeks after winning the Cup. Yea, they still have a good team but there is no question that they took a hit. You don't win a Cup without depth guys and Chicago lost almost all of them. Keep telling yourself that it's not so bad. That you are restocking for the future.

BON Scott not John Scott. Jesus!
-
Just plain stupid. Do you think maybe that our record after Lilja returned had a little bit to do with the return of Franzen?
-
You think that Abs is worthless? Are you kidding?
-
Glass half empty for you huh? Sure everybody gets older but at the same time the rookies are getting better. Don't you think that Howard's playoff experience will help? Don't you think that Abby will get better? Or Ericsson?
-
The odds of ANY team winning the Cup are at best 4-1 or 5-1, That's only a 20-25% chance so to say that any 1 team is going to win the Cup is silly. I especially love it when people come on here and say we AREN't going to win the Cup just so they can say I told you so. It's easy to say who won't win the Cup. That said, all of our big rivals got weaker. Pittsburgh most likely loses Gonchar. This is a huge loss. Everytime he misses a few games they tank. Chicago loses almost their entire supporting cast. San Jose loses Nabokov and Rob Blake Aneheim loses Neidemier and probably Selanne. So the best teams in the West are Detroit and....Chicago? Vancouver can't get Luongo over the hump and really who else is their? LA maybe. In the East there's Washington who hasn't yet learned to play plyoff hockey and Philly who has no goalie. I like our chances.

Ok Miller isn't a tough guy. Your comparison though is meaninless. Neither Abby or Miller were on our team for the entire year and Eaves only played 65 games. Ladd was on the highest scoring team in the league for an entire year and he still didn't score 20. A scorer he is not. The Wings biggest downfall last year was in not scoring enough. Ladd might be a little better scorer than Eaves or Miller but not by alot and Eaves and Miller are cheap.
-
You have the rose colored glasses on. Ladd has never scored ,more than 17 goals in a year. He had 10 points in his last 26 playoff games. We already have enough tough guys that don't score in Abby, Miller and Eaves. We don't need another one.
-
Sarcasm right? It "definitely" didn't get the Sharks anywhere in the last 6-7 years although they did make the conference finals twice losing 4-2 and 4-0.
-
Really? Last year, he was the captain and he had 3 points in 6 playoff games and had a +/- of even. He always good in the regular season but until this year he was not good in the playoffs. See Marian Hossa... Well said. This happens every year. 1 good playoff and everybody thinks the guy is great in the playoffs. Examples: Hosssa, Khabibulin, Buffy, Niemi
-
6.9M for Marleau. This is the guy that until this year had a rep for not showing up in the playoffs and was stripped of his captaincy. Now they sign him for 6.9M This is insane. The guy is a career -9 in the playoffs. Is this worse than the Brian Campbell contract?
-
Here's the thing. Niemi was not spectacular. And in the finals he had a save percentage of less than .900. They won the cup because the goaltender at the other end sucked and their offense was fantastic. The year before, again Fleury was not great but they won the cup because their offense was great and they got to play the walking wounded in the finals. For Wilson to bank on sucess of a cheap goaltender based on these scenarios isn't very smart IMO. NORMALLY, you need great goaltending to win the Cup. The last 2 years were exceptions. Nabokov was never able to excell in the playoffs and when he did have good playoff years, the rest of the team sucked. I think that they are better off with him than a "cheaper" goaltender but I would like it if San Jose was a weaker team next year...
-
The question was whether Cleary brought more to the table than Eaves and that was what I was referring to as a stupid question. He was injured most of last season. It's a shame that people want to dump him based on 1 injury riddled season. Until Eaves puts up 40 points 3 years in a row, I don't think that you can compare the two. He's been in the league 6 years and hasn't done it yet.
-
Stupidest thing that I have read on LGW in a long time.
-
Yes. He had 34 points last year and 40 or more the previous 3 seasons in a row before that. Even in Eaves best season (his rookie year) he had only 32 points. So really, this is a stupid question.
-
LAST YEAR 2008-2009 Brodeur had a .929 save percentage in the playoffs. Oh right, he's only that good because of the team in front of him. I'd sign him in a heartbeat.
