Pretty soon - Who are the THREE odd men out?

Leino isn't going anywhere. He's had 1/2 season in the NHL and hasn't adjusted well. No way the Wings are going to give up on a guy with his talent after only 1/2 season. May is 38 and brings nothing more than Aaron Downey or DMac brought last year. If he could score a goal or rack up a helper once in awhile, he'd be worth keeping but that's not his MO. May is out, Miller is out and Abby will be sent back down because he can be without exposure to waivers. And Janik will be sent back down when Ericsson and Kronwall return.

1/9 GDT: Red Wings 4 at Sharks 1

You don't have any hope for 2 points? You must be fun to be around.

Wow! Mindfly is predicting that the Wings will lose. What is the world coming to?

1/9 GDT: Red Wings 4 at Sharks 1

Yea, right. Howard is going to give up 6 goals despite his .927 save percentage.

Are you smarter than a 5th grader?

1/7 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Kings 1

Bulls***. He has a .927 save percentage. Compare this to Cristobal Huet is playing for the team with the lowest GAA in the league. Huet's save % ranks him 22nd in the league among goaltenders. Howard is playing with a mediocre defensive team and is 5th in the league in save %. It's not just the guys playing in front of him

    Janik Receives Praise from Babcock

Same old tired argument. We are too small and to soft. So if we have the smallest softest blue line shouldn't we be last in GAA instead of 9th?

    Playoffs predictions?

Actually, we are the oldest team in the league based on the average age but interestingly, look at the top teams in the league Detroit Chicago San Jose Pittsburgh New Jersey Chicago is the youngest out of all 30 teams and the others are all above the league average in age. Maybe experience does mean something...

    Playoffs predictions?

There are a number of factors that lead to the Cup 1. Talent 2. Depth 3. Drive 4. Leadership 5. Coaching 6. Luck 7. Lack of injuries IMO, the most talented teams are San Jose, Detroit, Chicago, Pittsburgh, New Jersey San Jose is short on leadership and has an inexperienced head coach Chicago does not have the coaching leadership or goaltending Pittsburgh has no depth and obviously the drive isn't going to be as strong as last year New Jersey has all of the ingrediants Detroit has all the ingrediants and the drive is going to be stronger than last year Of course Detroit had everything but #6 and #7 last year so who knows. I'm picking New Jersey and Detroit

Seriously? You don't think Flip is an offensive upgrade over Miller or May or whoever he is replacing? It sounds llike you have an illogical hate for Flip.

1/2 GDT: Red Wings 4 at Coyotes 1

That's a stupid argument. Wins and Losses for a goaltender don't mean a lot. If the team in front of you doesn't score, you lose regardless of how you play. Save % is really the only meaningful stat for a goaltender and right now Jimmy is 7th in the league if you only count goalies that have at least 20 games. Consider this, Huet is 4th in GAA because he has a very good defense playing in front of him but he is 21st in save % because basically he sucks. Forget about wins and losses, it's about how many pucks you stop regardless of what team you are playing.

1/2 GDT: Red Wings 4 at Coyotes 1

We need to finish the year with somewhere around 90-93 points based on the last few years in order to get the 8th spot. 93 points represents a 0.567 winning percentage. The Wings currently have a 0.575 winning percentage. This means that they are right on the cusp of the 8th position based in historical winning percentages. And they are 3 points out of eigth position with 1 game in hand. If they win tonight, they will be 1 point out. This means that if their winning percentage in the last 44 games improves even a little bit, they will most likely make the playoffs. We need to come out of the next 10 games which is the toughest part of the entire schedule with at least 10 points.

Brad May Lower Body Injury (Day to Day)

Could you translate that into English?

Oh we are really screwed now. First no Franzen and Z no no May.

    The Chris Osgood discussion thread

Howard is playing great right now so Babs is going to play him as much as possible until his performance drops. Why does that require so much debate on here? If Howard continues to play like he is now, Ozzie will sit and the Wings will win. If Howard slumps, Ozzie will get his chance. It's really that simple...

    Winter Classic

You really think that the NHL was smart enough to think of that and then actually pull it off so that nobody would catch wind of it? Come on , this is a league that thinks an ice hockey team should play in the desert.

    Jimmy Howard

You're kidding right? His save % is tied with Marty Brodeur for 8th and his GAA is just above Evgeni Nabkov also for 8th. I'd say he deserves some credit. Right now his game is up there with Brodeur and Nabokov and they are the starting goaltenders for the teams that are #1 and #2 in the league in points right now. He's more than "looking good for a rookie", he has been outstanding.
  19. chrisdetroit

    Jimmy Howard

Maybe you shouldn't watch then. I think the Pistons are on, go watch them. Jimmy has a .921 save percentage, tied with that Brodeur guy for 8th and a 2.25 GAA which is also 8th just ahead od Nabokov. What exactly can't you watch?

12/31 GDT: Avalanche 2 at Red Wings 4

I don't get it. Why would a Wings fan go on a Wings Board and predict that they are going to lose? Maybe I am missing something.

    Mathieu Schneider on waivers

Assistant general manager Jim Nill said the team did not put in a claim for defenseman Mathieu Schneider, who was waived by Vancouver, because they're going to have to trim players (sending some to Grand Rapids) once the club starts getting healthy. Not gonna happen.
  22. Interesting logic. Based on that, since Lidstrom logs so much ice time and scores so few goals (this year) he should be a minus also but alas he is a +8 so there must be more to it than that. It's a measure of how good a player is defensively. That said, look at the guys that are better in the +/- catagory than your boy May; Zetterburg Datsyuk Holmsrom Draper Eaves Miller Maltby Franzen Helm Lidstrom Rafalski Kronwall What I find really interesting is that all three guys on the Eaves-Draper-Helm line have a better +/- than your boy May AND it isn't from scoring alot of goals. What this tells me is that May is not particullary good defensively. He's not the worst on the team but he could be alot better. You are right, he's cheap but he is making the same money as Patrick Eaves who is +5 and has 4 goals and an assist compared to May's -3 with 0 goals and 1 assist. Nice try but you have to look at ALL the statistics instead of just the ones that suit your argument.

LGW is Pro-Enforcer: The Results are In.

Actually, I watch ALL the Wings games begining to end. Brad May is doing a good job at what he was supposed to do but he's not one of the top players on the team. Yes he was brought in before the injuries but without the injuries he would be back and forth to Grand Rapids and in and out of the line-up just like MacCarty and Downey. Right now he is chewing up ice time being a tough guy because we are short on goal scorers. Yes there are other factors but May is 1 dimensional. He's a tough guy. He doesn't score, he doesn't set guys up to score, he's not fast and he's not particulary good defensively. I'm ok with having an enforcer if he can actually contribute but May isn't that guy and there aren't many Jarome Iginla's around.

LGW is Pro-Enforcer: The Results are In.

Yea pat yourslef on the back because May has scored how many goals? And has how many assists? He made the team becuase of injuries and other than entertaining us with fights, he has done zero to help us win. My post should have said "unless we have 8 guys out injured..." I didn't anticipate that.

Leino is lazy and he sucks

I'm with you. He hasn't yet discovered what it takes to play at the NHL level. He's obviously very talented. When he gets his s*** together, he's going to be great. Not everybody adjusts well to the NHL. For Christ's sake, we have him playing on the 2nd line with (until recently) Henrik frickin Zetterburg. That would be a bit of an adjustment for any rookie.
