The Positivity of all the injuries *right now*
chrisdetroit replied to Miller Brew's topic in General
Always assume the worst huh? Teams that have won 1 cup recently Aneheim Tampa Bay Carolina Pittsburgh I wouldn't bet on the Pens getting all the breaks 2 years in a row let alone 10. If they were to lose Malkin or Crosby who is going to pick up the slack. Bill Guerrin? -

For Christ's sake we are 1 point out of a playoff spot and we have EIGHT regulars out. Don't you think that our record will improve by at least 1 lousy point when we get those EIGHT regulars back? We are 1 point out and we are going to add Franzen Fillpula Cleary Zetterburg Williams Ericsson and Kronwall and you are woried that after adding all these guys that we can't make up that 1 point? If you are going to be so damn negative why don't you go watch the Pistons. -

Now that's just plain stupid. Give him a month and he will be back to normal. Just in time for the playoffs. The negativity on LGW is just increadible. -
We Should Have Gooned it Up These Last Two Games

What the heck are you talking about? Kronwall and Stuart look timid with the hits that they put on guys? -
We Should Have Gooned it Up These Last Two Games

For the Hawks to even get close to the Avs rivalry, the Hawks will have to actually hang with us in the playoffs when the games count. We had 1 series against the Hawks last year and it was a blow-out. The Hawks are wanabee rivals, that's all. I watched the Hawks play the Sharks the other night and frankly, I was impressed with the Hawks EXCEPT for Huet who looked terrible. He has great numbers only because the Hawks defense is good but I don't see them going far with Huet in goal. -

What game did you watch. Bert, Helm and Abby were hitting guys left and right. Stuart was to busy covering for rookie D-men and Kronawll was out. I don't think we played soft at all. -
I think that it's great. The Hawks finally beat us and even they can't brag about it because they beat a bunch of kids from Grand Rapids. What will really be sweet is when we bat them Wednesday...
-
Bert has picked it up quite a bit so he can't be the whipping boy. Howard has been great as of late so he's no longer on the list. Ozzie, Ralphi and Lebda have been whipped to death so it must be Leino's turn. I must have missed something. Why would a Red Wings fan start a thread titled "Who sucks more" unless it included guys on other teams?
-
These regular season games mean zilch. It would be great to beat them to shut up 20 Cent and the cocky fans but the bottom line is when the games mattered, the tally was Detroit 4 wins Chicago 1 win We have 9 regulars out of the lineup. If they beat us what does it prove - that they can beat us with 9 guys out?
-
Oh for f***s sake. Go watch the Pistons or something. Based on that logic, they would have beaten us the first game they played us. I expect that the Wings will win. The cocky Hawks are going to take the game for granted and Huet is going to crumble. 3-1 Wings
-
Yea if he had been playing Thursday, Z would never have got injured on that clean hit. Oh, wait...

Regulars from last year that are playing Datsyuk Holmstrom Draper Maltby Lidstrom Rafalski Lebda "New regulars" Bertuzzi Leino Abdelkader Eaves Helm Miller May Newbury Meech Janik Howard 8 Regulars and 11 newbies wow just wow

He doesn't suck. He's a pretty decent 3rd line player on what is (right now with the injuries) a mediocre team. 17 points in 32 games and -5. The problem is that we have him playing on the first line with one of the best players in the game and he is not that good. He had 2 great seasons in 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 when he had 36 and 46 goals but he is not that player anymore. For $1M per year, he's worth the money. It's all about expectations. He is not the Bertuzzi of 2002-2003 so it's not fair to compare him to that and we are not paying him to be that guy.

I did this last year with winning %, SAG, SFG, GAA and GFA for my own amusement. It's pretty easy to set up an excel spreadsheet then you just enter the relevant numbers for each game. If you do it after each game, it's not much work. The important part are the TRENDS. The Wings PK is something like 27 out of 28 in the last several games which is awesome but if you average that against how terrible it was earlier you end up with a so-so number and that doesn't tell the story. Good deal though. Keep us up to date.

Is this the NHL '10 thread because some of these posts are just fantasy stuff.

12/12 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Predators 2 (OT)
chrisdetroit replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Sorry, but IMO, no. No disrepect to your team, but I don't look at them as a threat in the playoffs and that is when rivalries become rivalries. The Wings rivalries are in no particular order Pittsburgh Aneheim Chicago San Jose just my opinion. -
During the off season we lost Hossa Sammy Hudler Conklin and Kopecky we currently have out on longterm injury Franzen Fillpula Williams Lilja Kronwall Cleary And we are only TWO POINTS out of a playoff spot after 31 games (37% through the season). We are NOT doing badly and we WILL make the playoffs. What this run has really shown me is the number of bandwagon fans that the Wings have. I expect great things starting in January when the guys start coming back. I agree, if you come on here just to say that "so and so sucks", don't waste our time. Go watch the NBA or something....
-
If that's what you think why would you watch the damn game. Just so you can *****?
-
You wrote off the season before it started? Talk about a pessimist. Oh wait, this is one of those "I told you so's" Well, you can give up on the team in October if you want but I don't want to see your neagtive ass on the bandwagon come playoff time.
-
Huh? There is a salary cap in the NHL. All that they commited to was spending up to the salary cap which almost all the teams do anyway. All they committed to was paying 3 guys the majority of the money instead of dividing it more easily. Now if there was no salary cap and they had spent alot more money, I'd agree with you.
-
Maybe, but Kronwall seems to be doing fine. I'm not a doctor but I don't remeber any NHL player missing more than 6 months with this injury. And as far as the Wings missing the playoffs, they are currently 1 point out of a playoff spot and I think that it is a given that their winning % will improve at least some when they start getting guys back. Stop being so damn pessimistic.

MAF is not an elite goltender. He's pretty good but look at the numbers. He has a 0.907 career save %. That's not too spectacular. Marty Brodeur at .915, Luongo .919 even Osgood is at .905.

With cap room next season, what is our priority?
chrisdetroit replied to Miller Brew's topic in General
Howard is looking beter every game. I see him as our eventual #1. Ozzie has 1-2 more years left in him. We also have Larsson behind Howard. The Wings are not going to go out and get another goaltender. -

Well said. Unfortunately, they are both going downhill. We need to sign a #1 or #2 D-man. Ericsson isn't there yet and IMO Kronwall is going to max out ar #3/#4.
