11/21 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Canadiens 2 (SO)
chrisdetroit replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Huh? They had 40 shots on goal last night. They did everything right but the puck didn't go in. The problem is that they have too many guys playing that aren't natural goal scorers. Look at the 3rd line - Helm, Eaves and Draper. None of them are goal scorers. The 4th line is Maltby, Abby and May/Miller - None of them are scorers. This means they have only 2 lines with goal scorers and Leino and Bert are playing with the big boys because of injuries. We are sorely missing Franzen and Filpula. But to say they "took a vacation"? You must not have watched the game -
I don't think that it is either a conspiracy or incompetance. The problem is in the way the rules are written. The refs are supposed to blow the whistle or "intend" to blow the whistle when they lose sight of the puck AND this cannot be overidden by replay. Think about it. That is crap. Last night's non-goal was clearly a case of the puck going in from the shot and it was clearly not frozen by the goalie. There was undisputable video evidence. Why in the hell then was it called a non-goal? The video should be allowed to over-rule the call on the ice if there is undisputable video evidence. The NFL can get it right why can't the NHL? The most important thing should be TO GET THE CALL RIGHT even if it means that the replay overrides the call on the ice.

Wait. there's only 6 numbers up there and you want to add 4 more to the 6? Lids definitely Shanny no Feds no Ozzy maybe after 2 more cups By the way you need to work on your writing skills...
-
Osgood came within 1 puck hitting Dats in the foot of winning his 3rd cup as a starter and the Conn Smyth which IMO would have put his number in the rafters But this might be the year...

After losing Hossa, Hudler, Sammy and Kopy (well maybe not Kopy) nobody thought the Wings would be leading the Western Conference in scoring. 18 games in Wings 3.39 g/g #1 San Jose 3.23 g/g Of course that 9-1 game against the BJ's helped but even if you take that game out, we still average 3.06 which would put us 3rd in the west. The guys have certainly stepped up the scoring.

Report: Toews, Kane and Keith close to extensions
chrisdetroit replied to CenterIce's topic in General
Exactly. They are going to sign Toews and Kane and Keith because that will satisfy the fans. They will then have to dump their depth players and bring up some guys from the AHL. Once again Chicago management is more worried about image than having a good hockey team. -
Agreed. The trapazoid should go. And while they are at it please get rid of the stupid puck over the glass rule. It amounts to giving a team a penalty because of an accident. We didn't have the rule before the lock-out (except for goaltenders) and you didn't see people shooting the puck over the glass then. Worst case, don't make it a penalty - treat it like icing.

The general concensus at the begining of the season was that the Hawks weak spot was goaltending. So how's Huet doing? Sv% 0.895 which ranks him a solid 33rd out of 36 goaltenders. Ozzie incidently is at 0.910 which puts him 12th. The Hawks win/loss record is pretty good but eventually the goaltending problem is going to catch up with them. The Wings had a similar problem last year but were able to get around it because they had a very good back-up and led the league in Goals. The Hawks though are 18th in Goals/game and don't have a proven back-up. I'm thinking that the Hawks will struggle to make the playoffs.
-
Win the division? maybe but there is a world of difference between the regualr season and the playoffs. NOBODY does well in the playoffs without great goaltending. Chicago will finish 4th or 5th in the West and bow out in the first or 2nd round unless they find a new goaltender..
-
You missed the point. The Wings starting goaltending was not good in the regular season last year but their goalscoring and back-up goaltending was near the top of the league. The Hawks starting goaltending this year is bottom of the league and their back-up goaltending and scoring is average. What will happen in the future is anybody's guess but right now their goaltending sucks (33 out of 36) and their goal scoring is average. Presidents Trophy? You are kidding right? 50 puck on net? You lost your credibility with that one. No team has averaged even 35 in the last 12 years. And what exactly does Toee and Hossa being out have to do with goaltending? I repeat - the Hawks are going to struggle to make the playoffs unless Huet has a complete turn around. 15 games in he sucks. And Toews and Hossa have nothingto do with the goaltending.

Andy Strickland: "Wings and 'Hawks lead Forsberg race"
chrisdetroit replied to The Mule's topic in General
For Christ's sake, won't this guy ever go away? -
And Patrick Roy's performance in game 7 is one of the biggest chokes under pressure that I have seen in a conference championship deciding game.
-
In reference to the 2007-2008 Wings, he says: "Top to bottom, this is a better team than the Penguins' squad that won the Cup" He puts the Pens at 6th out of 9 Cup winners. I'd have to agree.

The Wings are 5-2-3 (0.650) in their last 10 games. They are 4 points behind Chicago with a game in hand. They just came back from a 5 game/12 day road trip where they played Phoenix, Colorado, Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary. They got 6 out of the possible 10 points. They won 2 out of 3 from the trip to Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary - 3 of the toughest buildings to play in in the league. They had arguably one of their best performances (according to Babs) in Calgary. And this is all without Franzen and Filpulla. The Wings are fine.

The official answer is ... Bandwidth Why isn't every game shown in high-definition? FSN nationally already offers more events in HD than any other network (including ESPN). Regionally on FOX Sports Detroit, more than 70% of all Tigers, Red Wings and Pistons telecasts combined are produced in HD, totaling approximately 225 games annually among the three teams. Capacity challenges limit the number of HD telecasts: •There is limited bandwidth capacity of receiving and sending HD signals at Fox Sports' master control facility in Houston. •FSN has to manage its HD capacity for 16 owned & operated networks across the country, which limits our capability. •Our HD schedule is expected to increase again in 2009-10. •The network's ultimate goal is to produce all games in HD.

Oh for Christ's sake. Can you be a little more defensively pessimistic. Dats scored 2 of the 5 goals, Homer got 1, Kronwall got 1 and Williams got 1. Are you saying that these guys can't be counted on to score and that this is an abberition? Yea, right. You shouldn't count on Dats, Homer and Kronwall to score because we lost Sammy and Hossa. This makes ZERO sense.
-
How many goals did he score? How many assists? We can't afford guys that don't pull their own weight. Sure, it's exciting to watch fights, but he needs to be smarter about when to fight. Last night all the fight accomplished was firing up the guy that he was fighting. And incidently he is a -2 so I think that the jury is still out on if he is a defnesive liability. We don't need another Aaron Downey who contributed nothing but fights.
-
He did more than that. He won the frickin Selke Trophy.
-
It's not a contract year for Drapes. He has 1 more year after this one. I think that Malts knows that this is his last year and it has added motivation. He'd like to retire with the 5th ring...
-
Yea, Maltby's role as a 4th line checker is just as important to the outcome of the game as the starting goaltender's role..... What a stupid comparison.
-
Who cares? What was his PLAYOFF GAA?
-
Yea, that's the ONLY possibility. I'm guessing that there is a little bit more to it than that...
-
That still sucks. He's playing with guys that are -1 and -4 and he's -13. Ouch! Yes, Babs has him in the top 6 and I hope he does well but my bet is that he's on a very short leash. On the face of it it looks like a questionable move but Babs knows a hell of a lot more about it than me and anybody else on LGW so I trust him.
