finally somebody agrees with me...LOL
-
I am a glass is half full guy and I agree that Kenny knows a hell of a lot more about it than anybody on here. My guess is that Bert will either spend alot of time riding the pine or he will learn to play defense and not take stupid penalties. Evidently Kenny and Babs think that they can make it happen but I don't understand why people are doing cartwheels over signing a guy that obviously is a rebuilding project. Oh wait - he's big, I get it
-
I agree about Draper, he has become a defensive liability but like it or not, we are stuck with him but that is no excuse for signing another defensive liability. I don't care how big he is. An the Williams signing really has nothing to do with Bert.
-
wrong again. Bert was -13 which was the WORST on thentire Flames team. Conroy +20 Borque +18 Glencross +14 Sarich +12 Lombardi +11 Reghr +10 He wasn't -13 becuase the Flames sucked. He sucked. There were only 3 players on the flames that were worse than -10 out of 32 skaters that played for them at least 1 game and Bert won the booby prize.
-
So that's your answer? +/- doesn't mean much? Wow. I guess you can ignore the numbers that don't support your argument. semantics?
-
What the hell does that have to do with Bertuzzi. Bert was -13 in 66 games last year and that sucks. Ok he's cheaper than Draper, but he still sucks defensively.
-
sorry, you lost me. I thought we were talking about our new aquisition, Todd Bertuzzi. I was answering about what not to like. Your come back is to change the subject? But you did point something out, Bert was -13 in only 66 games. What would it have beem in 82?
-
How bout minus fricking 13 last year!

Devellano says Wings close to signing Bertuzzi

Kronwall didn't hit Havlat when his back was turned and McCarty didn't hit Lemeuix when his back was turned. You seriously don't know the difference? Really? -

Worst case he takes a dumb penalty which he has been known to do and costs us a playoff game. Or worst case he brings his -13 with him and speedy forwards skate around him (he's very slow) and score goals that cost us playoff games. People on here are so blinded bt the "big and tough" argument that they want to sign a guy that is known for taking bad penalties, was a -13 last year, and is a slow skater. Unbelievable. -

You are serious considering putting a guy who was -13 last year on the second line. Bert is a marginal player at best. He is not going to be on our second line. It takes more than "big and tough" to be on the second line. -

Bertuzzi hit him from behind and drove his head into the ice. This was not about sticking up for anybody, it is about hitting a player from behind when he can't see you coming. The majority of hockey players at the time came out and said that it was a dirty hit and something that they did not condone. There are unwritten rules and one of them is that you don't hit a player from behind when he is in a position that he can't defend himself. What Bert did was unexcuseable. Unfortunately it resulted in a horrific injury. You can't put this off as somebody sticking up for his teammates. -
I don't. I don't want Babs to change a thing. It seems to work with most of the team giving 100%. If to much pushing means you lose a guy like Hudler, well that's the way it goes.

That's a stupid analysis. They won the Cup and kept their core so they should win it again. You're kidding right? Just because they won the Cup does not mean that they were (or still are) the best team in the league. I'm not taking anything away from them because they worked hard and deserved the Cup BUT they won the Cup because everything worked out in their favor. They took advantage of their opportinities. The only way they win the Cup again is if they get all the breaks again. But it usually doesn't work out that way. The Sharks have to change the intangebiles to win the Cup - motivation, hunger, leadership, etc. and that is pretty hard to do with the same group that keeps coming up short over and over and over....
-
Pleas God, not "dumb penalty" Bertuzzi. Although on the positive side we do need extra work on our penalty kill.....

You have to keep this all in perspective. There are 12 or 13 forwards on the team. We are talking about the spots for the 10-13 guys. We are also taliking about 1 year contracts at 1.5 million. Who knows why we couldn't get Prospal and we got Williams. If Williams doesn't work out we trade him or send him to GR. NEITHER Prospal or Williams would make a big impact on this team. These are guys that will be fighting for ice time on the 3rd or 4th lines. I'm ok with Kenny giving Williams a shot as long as he is cheap. Is Prospal better than Williams? It depends on your opinion. Williams was an unsigned free agent who took a 40% pay cut and Prospal was bought out. Neither excites me much...

No on Legace. He was sent to the minors by St. Louis last year. Obviously he hasn't improved since he left. Then there is the problem of what happens if God forbid, Ozzie is injured in the playoffs and we have to put in Legace. No thanks.

great post! ROFLMAO

Mike Grier on the first line?....hahahahah. We could put him up there with Pavs hahahhah. He only scored 10 goals last year but he would fit just fine on the 1st line?
-
I gotta say that last offseason was pretty spectacular (or we thought it was) when he signed Hossa. Turns out his one year of playoff sucess was only because he was plying wing to Crosby. Even Bill Guerin looks good playing with Crosby.... You really can't compare an offseason with a cap to ones that came before the cap.
-
really? He locked up both Franzen and Z for their entire careers at cap friendly numbers. We spent all season debating about Franzen and Z and Hossa. We knew we coudn't keep all. Hossa proved to be a playoff no show and Kenny went out and locked up the two that will help most in the playoffs. We lost Mr. regular season, Sammy and a useless Kopy. The only surprise was to lose Huds to the Russians- something nobody could forsee. So Kenny turns around and signs Williams at a discount - 1M less than he made last year and only to a 1 year contract and Patrick Eaves for not much more than the league minimum also for 1 year. I think that he did pretty well considering the cap.

2nd best D-men in the league? You are not serious.
