    Scorers and Grinders still available

I was afraid that name would come up. Shanny had 6 fricking goals in 34 games last year. Extrapolate that over 82 games and he has 14 goals. And he hasn't played more than 73 games in 4 years. That might have something to do with the fact that he's 40 years old. It's a bit of a stretch to think that you'd get 20 goals out of him. His points/game has declined every year 2006 0.48 2007 0.43 2008 0.31 2009 0.17 But you think that he'll get 40+ in 82 (0.49) games this coming year? Not going to happen. The Brendan Shanahan of 2006 we could use. The 2009-2010 version would be a waste of money.

    Who do we target now?

Trade Lebda either for draft picks or for a winger. done. That said, I like Mike Greer. Though he isn't a big scorer, he's one of the few San Jose guys that actually shows up in the playoffs. He'd be a good replacement for Kopy because he is a gritty 4th line guy. Last year he had 10 goals in 62 games. Kopy had 6 goals in 79 games. Plus he's from Detroit so I'm thinking that he might be motivated. And he's 6-1, 225 so the LGW posters will like him. 1.8Mil last year. The best analysis of whats left was on M-Live this morning MLive And PLEASE DO NOT SUGGEST Shanny Bert

    88 goals, 118 assists, and 206 points

Stupidest comment in a long time. The Wings have made the playoffs 18 years in a row and you think that they are going to drop from 2nd in the West to 17th in 1 year? I've seen alot of pessimism on LGW but this one takes the cake. Let's take a vote, how many people think that the Wings are in danger of missing the playoffs? hahahhahahahahahahah

    88 goals, 118 assists, and 206 points

Just frickin stupid. 88 goals. That assumes that the 4 replacements will score a total of zero. Unbelieveable analysis. More likely Leino 15-20 Helm 15-20 Abby 10-15 xxx 10-15 Take the lowest total 15+15+10+10 = 50 goals Now subtract 50 from the total NOT 88 that gives us 239 which is 14th based on 2008-2009. Go back 1 year to 2007-2008 and 239 goals would put us at 8th in the league. Now obviously guys like Flip, and Cleary are going to see more ice time and should score more and Z would be expected to have a better year which certainly puts us in the top half of the league. You should stop with the doom and gloom. The glass is half full.

    Versteeg resigns with Chicago

Since you brought that up ...yes he is but he isn't going to take Campbell.

    Versteeg resigns with Chicago

hahahaha Good luck but first you will need a new coach, a new goaltender and an experienced captain with some leadership ability. It's a shame that Chicago has thrown everything into this year and doesn't have a plan for the future. The best odds of any one team winning the cup is only about 4:1. It's just a very hard championship to win. For a team to put all their eggs in 1 basket is stupid...

Barker signs a 3-year deal with Hawks

Well if not, then you can keep him for 11 more years anyway... hahahahahah

Barker signs a 3-year deal with Hawks

IF Khabibulin had performed like he did in the Playoffs with Tampa the year before, you are right, the price would have been fair. But for what you got from him, the proce was too high. The last year he was in Tampa he had a 0.933 save percentage and won the Cup. This year in the playoffs, had an 0.898 save percentage. You are paying 6.75 mil a year for a guy with a .898 save percentage in the playoffs and you think that that's about right? LOL

Barker signs a 3-year deal with Hawks

Maybe after his next playoff you will change your mind. Take out his 1 good playoff year and he averages 0.641 points/game. This year he was right on his average and that is over 8 NHL playoffs. So as long as you are ok with how hid did this yaer in the playoffs...LOL

Barker signs a 3-year deal with Hawks

First he overpaid for Khabibluin Then he overpaid for Huet Then He overpaid for Campbell Then he overpaid for Hossa+Kopecky Now he is in Cap hell and next year will most likely lose at least one of the big 3 I'm glad I'm not a Hawks fan. The Wings on the otherhand, locked up Zetterberg for his entire career locked up Franzen for his entire career said adios to the 1 year guy that disappeared in the playoffs dumped a 4th line guy in Kopecky that hasn't developed as hoped

    Predict The Wings Next Season

The Hawks have 3 big issues that are going to keep them from being sucessful. 1. Cristobal Huet 2. Joel Quenville 3. An inexperienced 21 year old Captain I don't see the addition of Hossa and Kopy and the loss of Havlat and Khabibulin adressing these problems. I think that we still win the division. The Hawks make the playoffs but go out early. Incidently, Havlat had 15 points in the playoffs this year. The same as Hossa but Havlat played less games....

    Projected '09-'10 lineup

We are not going to do well beause of our back-up goaltender? huh?
  13. chrisdetroit

    Projected '09-'10 lineup

And after watching this years playoffs you don't think that Ozzie is as good as Dom in 2007-2008? You are worried about the backup goaltender? What makes you think that Leino and Helm won't put up big numbers? Drake huh? We didn't have him this year and we seemed to do ok. We still have Stuart last time I checked. Really the 09-10 team is almost the same as 07-08. Sammy, Kopy and a back-up goalie are not going to make that big a difference. And I think Helm will more than make-up for Drake. This is just defensive pessimism on your part. It's pretty common on LGW.
  14. chrisdetroit

    Projected '09-'10 lineup

hahahaha And this is because we lost Hossa, Kopecky and Sammy? Well we didn't even have Hossa in 08-09 and we won the Presidents Trophy and the Cup. So you think losing Kopy and Sammy takes us from best in the league to 4th in the conference? You are worried about Chicago? With Huet in net? LOL That is just stupid.

Holland IS Searching for a Free Agent!

Oh for Christ's sake. He was already here. He did nothing. Why do you think that it would be different this time. He;s 2 years older. Did he get better? Did his back heal? Move on...

Holland IS Searching for a Free Agent!

We need a big tough Canadian kid because I am tired of seeing the Wings pushed around. What about George Parros, isn't he available. I can't believe that Mcarty and Downey aren't going to get resigned. LOL

    San Jose Sharks in trouble...

Who would take Marleau at his salary?
  18. chrisdetroit

    San Jose Sharks in trouble...

Cap issues aside, they are missing some big pieces of the puzzle. #1 an experinced NHL head coach #2 a captain that is actually a leader That said, Dan Blysma was fortunate enough to win the cup with no NHL head coaching experience. Sometimes that happens when you sit down at the table and the dealer deals you 4 aces. The 4 aces were; injuries to the Wings, Boston losing to Carolina in OT of game 7, no significant injuries to the Pens, and 2 sucessive game 7 victories. I doubt that they will get rid of Todd and I honestly don't know who they could acquire for item #2 but oviously Patrick Marleau is not the guy. The only question is do they exit in the first round or the second this year? Wouldn't it suck to be a sharks fan....

Wings will be a better team in 09/10

Glass half empty huh? The Hawks are going to struggle with Huet in goal and now they don't have 'Bulin to come in and save them. Ok the Wings lost Hossa's 40 goals but you are adding in the goals from Kopy and Sammy. Come on. Leino and Helm are both upgrades over Kopy and Sammy. Hudler likely will stay put now. I expect Flip to have a break-out year if we can finally get him a permanent position on a line so that he isn't constantly moving around. Ozzie/Howard scares you? LOL. We all saw what Ozzie can do in the playoffs. If Howard struggles, Ozzie will play more until we can find a better back-up. Ozzie is the starter not Howard. Lot's of defensive pessimism this summer. Everybody is setting up for the "I told you sos" I for one like the new improved Wings. Hossa did nothing for us when it mattered most. In fact he's had 1 good playoff his entire career and he's 30 years old. I'm ok that he has moved on. Kopy and Sammy were expendable. I see 50 wins and 16 wins in the playoffs. Lids wins his 5th cup in 09/10 and then retires.

    OFFICIAL: 12y, $62.4m makes Hossa a 'Hawk

Aneheim San Jose (if they get their heads straight) Calgary Chicago is not ready for a trip to the SCF as was evidenced by the beat down the Wings put on them in the WCF. Adding a playoff underachiever doesn't change that.

    OFFICIAL: 12y, $62.4m makes Hossa a 'Hawk

For Christ's sake, where did you come up with this crap. We won the Cup with almost the same team last year. And Hossa did what in the finals? You'd give Chicago the edge? Huh? Did you watch the WCF this year? We killed Chicago. They won one OT game in which the blew a 3 game lead. So now they add Hossa who is a perenial playoff underachiever. And you give them the edge? hahhahahaha You are being sarcastic right?

Report: Hossa turns down Wings' offer

Hudler is a RESTRICTED Free Agent. That means, the Wings make him an offer. If he doesn't accept it he has to go to arbitration. The arbitrator then rules whether or not it is a fair offer. If the Wings don't accept the offer then I believe he becomes an UFA. The other possibility is that another team drops an offer sheet on Huds. If that happens, the Wings can either match it or get compensated with draft picks. Offer sheets are rare in the NHL. They occur about once a season in the entire NHL. Now think of all the RFA's out there - a couple per team at least say 60-70 and there are ususally only 1-2 offer sheets per year. It's very unlikley that somebody is going to give Huds an offer sheet especially give that he is small and just came off an unproductive playoff when there are so many better RFA's out there. The only realistic possibility for Huds to be gone is that the Wings trade him and they clearly don't want to do that. Huds isn't going anywhere... I

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

Won't happen. Kenny is not going to trade Kronwall. Our top D pairing are 39 and 35. Kronwall is 28. We are probably going to lose Lids in a year or so and Ralfi a couple of years after that. If we lose Kronwall also, that leaves us with Lilja, Stuart, Lebda, Ericsson and Meech and probably a couple of younger guys unless they can trade for a top pairing guy but that defeats the purpose of dumping Kronwall's salary. And after Cleary's playoff performance, he isn't going anywhere. This is not a good post.

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

You should look some of these things up before you post. Flip averaged 17:37 per game in the playoffs which was 10th highest on the Wings. Last year he averaged 16:39 in the playoffs which also was 10th on the team. So no, he didn't get much more ice time. You are in fact knocking the guy for some reason because you opinions are not backed up by the numbers. No he's not at the same level as last years Conn Smyth winner or the past 2 Selke winners but he is a very solid player and he's very good defensively. Also he's only 25.

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa

I don't agree. You have to remember the money that we have offered Hossa is borrowed money. Just like all that money that Obama borrowed from our grandchildren so that he could keep the unemployment rate at 7%. But I digress. If Holland isn't going to get Hossa, he doesn't have to dump Hudler or trade away a guy like Flip. I think that he will wait for Hossa and if he doesn't get him, he will pick up the table scraps. I don't see him going after any 4M+guys.
