NHL should switch to a "Soft Cap"

Unless you're a Democrat then you just borrow more from your granchildren and increase the spending... Sorry, couldn't resist

    Osgood to Start Fri/Practice notes

Average? You must not have been watching. Throw out the 8-2 game and the 8-0 game as you said and he has played 5 games and has given up a total of 5 goals for a 1.00 GAA and has had 2 shutouts. That's a hell of a lot better than average. The only caveat is that it is only 5 games. If he keeps playing like that he will be the hottest goaltender in the league.

    San Jose Drops the Ball

For the Sharks, it is imperative that they get home ice because they are 18-11-6 (18-17) on the road. This is especially true if they meet the Wings in the WCF because they do not play well at the Joe and Nabokov does not play well against the Wings. I expect that they will win in the first round and lose in the second round just like the last 3 years. The Sharks historically don't play well in the playoffs, they only have an 18-17 record on the road, Nabokov doesn't play well in the playoffs and they are currently playing their worst just before the playoffs - and this is with only their 4th line guys out. It would suck to be a Sharks fan. Things looked good for awhile but it is all slipping away. Since having their butts kicked by the Wings (4-1) they have a record of 4-5-1. I think that this effected their pysche. They thought that they were great but the self-doubt has crept in. 2 games at the Joe resulted in a combined score of 10-1. I'm not to worried about them.

    Who signs 1st?

    1. Abdelkader is not ready. He needs another year at GR. 2. Hudler for 1.5 - you're dreaming 3.0 is more reasonable 3. Hudler is not first line material 4. Losing Mule would be a huge problem because we only have 1 guy that fills a similar role and he is 36 and has become injury prone. I'm not sure how Abdelkader proved anything with his 6 games of NHL experience One of the advantages the Wings have over other teams is that they don't rush their young players into the NHL and that is exactly what you are proposing. It won't work

3/14 GDT: Red Wings 5 at Blues 2

Your memory isn't very good. St. Louis beats Detroit 1984 1991 Detroit beats St. Louis 1988 1996 1997 1998 2002 That comes to 2-5 and that 3 years in a row had to hurt...

Of course you do. That's so you can say "I told you so".

Our 5 on 3 is brutal because

huh? Detroit has 7 5 on 3 goals which is tied for 5th in the league. You can't take 1 game and extrapolate it over the entire season and reach a logical conclusion from that. We didn't score 5 on 3 on Thursday because Kippersof stood on his head.

    San Jose Drops the Ball

Look up "choke" in the NHL dictionary and you will find team pictures of the 2005-2006, 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 San Jose Sharks. There will be a blank spot for a picture of the 2008-2009 San Jose Sharks which will be added after round 2 of the playoffs. This is a tradition after round 2 every year.

    San Jose Drops the Ball

Not a legitament comparison. You could pick any one game that any team played and make the analogy that if they play like that in the playoffs, they will lose. The Sharkies are not playing well right now. They have lost 5 of the last 6 and have been outscored 21-13. They've given up 3.5 Goals per game and only scored 2.2. Nabokov has missed all 5 which might explain the 3.5 because the backup goalie rarely ever plays but they have forgotten how to score. Nabokov is supposed to be back tonight against the Kings. And SO goals do not count against your GAA but OT goals do. The Wings have allowed 202 goals this year

    Westward, ho!

    Westward, ho!

You are kidding right? I looked this up because on a map they seem to be about the same. Doing a general search I found that both Detroit and Columbus are at latitude of about -83 degrees west. Zero latitude is in the middle of the Atlantic so the higher negative number is further east. Then I searched for JLA and Nationwide Arena. JLA -83.0514 NWA -83.0061 This means that NWA is actuually further east by 0.0453 degrees latitude which is approximately 5 km or only about 3 miles. SO technically you are right, Nationwide Arena is 3 miles further East than the Joe. Longitude not Latitude...

    Westward, ho!

Perfect! Move the Islanders to the Western Conference and move the Wings east to maintain the balance. Git er done Gary!

    Scary Goaltending Stat

so what your saying is that it's ususual but that it has happened before. Here's one for you, when was the last time that a team finished in the top 3 in the league with a starting goalie that had a GAA of more than 3? And this is guaranteed to happen this year. These kind of stats are silly. How bout this one..no team has repeated as Stanley Cup Champions in 10 years. No team had won the cup EVER with a European born captain...until last year. No team has EVER won the Stanley Cup after being eliminated in the 2nd round the three previous years... That one's my favorite...

Forget the deadline, the OFF SEASON is where its at?

If Ralfalski has been lousy defensively, how could he be +12. You are only focusing on his miscues and ignoring the godd plays he makes defnsively. There is no way in hell that Rafalski, Stuart or Cleary are going to be traded.

Forget the deadline, the OFF SEASON is where its at?

Exactly. And that is why I'm not too concerned about their chances in the playoffs. When they are focus, they are unbeatable. And that goes for Chris Osgood also. How do you get excited about playing Nashville or Columbus in March when you already have the #2 spot locked up. This happens this time of the year quite often. The teams that have their spots locked up get beat by the teams that are fighting for playoff positions. In the last 5 games Detroit 3-2 San Jose 1-3-1 Chicago 2-2-1 Boston 1-3-1 Washington 1-3-1

    wait a minute...Mindfly is a Wings fan?

3/7 GDT: Blue Jackets 8 at Red Wings 2

Going out on a limb there huh? The BEST odds of picking any 1 team to win the cup are what 4:1 or 5:1. With those odds, anybody can pick a team to NOT win the cup. Let's see you pick a team to win the cup.

3/7 GDT: Blue Jackets 8 at Red Wings 2

What do the Toronto Maple Leafs have to do with it? You shouldn't make up stuff to make your point. You lose your credibility

3/7 GDT: Blue Jackets 8 at Red Wings 2

How do you define good? No, neither is a superstar but Conklin is #17 in the league in save % and #8 in GAA. You really should base your opinions on some facts.
  22. chrisdetroit

Which Wings have disappointed you this year?

    Not quite. Last year SG/G 34.4 SA/G 23.5 Diff 10.9 This year SG/G 36.0 SA/G 27.8 Dif 8.2
  23. chrisdetroit

Which Wings have disappointed you this year?

+14 which is 22nd in the league for defensemen out of 281. And he is on the team that is 28th in GAA. It appears that you are ignoring all of the time that he doesn't turn the puck over and focusing on only the negative....

Optimism After the Ugliest Game of the Year

Oh for f***s sake. Conklin has a .914 svae percentage and a 2.39 GAA. But you are going to panic based on 1 game?

Optimism After the Ugliest Game of the Year

Not true. There are sometimes back-to-backs in the playoffs but it is unusual and games 6 and 7 are rarely back to back. In fact I don't remeber there ever was a game 6-7 back-to-back because there is always travel between them. And as far as the Wings I don't remeber them ever playing back-to-back in the playoffs,
