    Leino's Potential

If they sign both Franzen and Hossa, they will have to dump salary. Best case, Hossa signs for 6.0 cap hit and Mule for 4.0. That means they are over by about $5 mil. Why? Because Z's hit went up by 3.5, Hossa's came down by 1.5 and Franzen's went up by 3.0 possible salary dumps are Hudler 1.0 Flip 3.0 Sammy 1.2 Lebda 0.65 Kopy 0.5 Even if they talk Mule into taking only 3 Mil, they would still have to dump 4mil. Guys that make more than 1.0 Dats Z Hossa Flip Cleary Homer Drapes Lids Ralfi Stuart Nick Jr. Sammy Huds Lilja Ozzie I can't see a way that Flip stays. Most of the guys making more than 1.5 are untouchable. So now the question could come down to Mule or Flip even up. I really like Flip but we need Mule more....

    Franzen or Hudler

    Exactly.

    Franzen or Hudler

Theo Fleury is a potential Hall of Famer. His name doesn't belong in this discussion.

    Franzen or Hudler

What are you talking about? Powerplays are very important in the playoffs. Last year the wings scored: 72 goals total in the playoffs 42 5 on 5 2 4 on 4 19 5 on 4 1 5 on 3 6 shorthanded 2 empty net so % wise (take out the 2 empty netters) 63% Even Strength 29% Powerplay 9% Shorthanded Compare that to last years regular season 252 Total Goals 149 5 on 5 6 4 on 4 64 5 on 4 14 5 on 3 3 4 on 3 5 shorties 9 empty nets 63% Even Strength 33% Powerplay 2% Shorthanded Conclusion - the % of powerplay goals is almost the same in playoffs as regular season.

2/13 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Blue Jackets 3

It's all mental. Ozzie showed 8 months ago that he is capable of playing at an elite level when the cup is on the line. Nothing has changed in 8 months. He didn't suddenly get slower or forget how to play. He just needs to get back to where he was. Unfortunately it is taking longer than we all expected and everybody is getting nervous. There is no fix for this. He just has to get his act together. We are not going to trade for a goalie and baring injury, Conks is not going to start. And no, we aren't going to bring up Larson or Howard. It's up to Ozzie. He has to do it and he is capable.

    Hossa and the Wings

That's easy. Reading the reaction from the Pittsburgh fans. He turns down a long term contract with them amd signs a long term contract with us........... The only thing better would be seing him hoist the cup this June while Pittsburgh doesn't even make the playoffs.

    An Odd Feeling

The bitching about Kopy sounds just like what we heard on LGW all last year about Dallas Drake. Until the playoffs started.....

    Hossa and Franzen to Stay?//Merged

You are missing some very important points. Franzen is a big power forward who plays alot in front of the net. We only have 1 other of those in Holstrom and he is 37 and has had groin problems the last few years. Hudler is a small young finesse forward with very good hands. We have several more of those -Filpulla, Helm, Datsyuk So if you look at it that way, the choice is obvious. We need Franzen alot more than we need Huds. Even if Huds has more points (and he actually only has 10 more points despite playing in 8 more games).

    Hossa to Sign Soon?

    Duh?

    Hossa to Sign Soon?

Now that's just stupid. You are saying that because a guy hasn't been injured in the past his chance of injury in the future are less? This would only make sense if was a recurring injury which none of Franzen's were. Franzen got hit in the hand with a puck, we better not sign him he might get hit in the hand again. Hossa has never been hit in the hand with a puck so he's a safer bet. I get it that some people have this man love for Hossa, but at least try to be a little bit objective. Hoss'a chances of injury are no less than Franzens except for the fact that Franzen stands in fron of the net and Hossa doesn't.

    Hossa to Sign Soon?

People, Huds is a restricted free agent. The only way he goes anywhere is if somebody drops an offer sheet on him and that is very unlikely to happen. The only other possibility is if he goes to arbitration and Kenny decides not to pay the ruling. This has happened what twice in the entire league since the lockout. It just isn't gonna happen so let's stop with the losing Hudler comments.

    Hossa to Sign Soon?

I'm really disappointed that so many people on here either don't understand 5th grade math or chose to ignore it. Flip = $3M Franzen = $4M Hudler = $3M $3M<>$7M So to compare Flip to Mule and Hudler is, well...it doesn't add up. If you want to say that you are will be disappointed that Hudler is gone and Flip is still here, that's your opinion but Hudler and Mule aren't going to be gone just because we kept Flip.

    Hossa to Sign Soon?

Sorry but the math still doesn't work unless they dump some players. They are right at the cap now Z just got a $3M raise (cap hit) Say Hossa comes in at $6M cap hit. That's $1.5M that we then have to spend Ericsson replaces Cheli Howard replaces Conks we still would have to sign Hudler Sammy Mule Kopy Mac Downey Now with only 1.5M to spend you can only keep 1 of the 7 and it's highly unlikely to be Mule. Mac, Downey and Kopy already are probably out the door. That means we probably lose Mule and Sammy or Mule and Hudler. AND we would still be up against the cap which has been a big problem this year.

    Hossa to Sign Soon?

Wrong. Zetterburg is the next captain. End of discussion. Where on earth did you come up with Hossa as the captain?

2/8 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Penguins 0

Well said. On November 11th after 2 periods that shots were 26-14. The score was 4-2 which became 5-2 before the meltdown. The Wings finished 3 for 5 on the powerplay and the Pens finished 1 for 5. Except for the last 13 minutes, the Wings totally dominated the Pens. I'm looking for another convincing domination by the Wings but with the additional 13 minutes addd in. 4-2 Wings

    Blues Place Legace on Waivers

Bulls***. You said that he said that he was the worst player in the league. That is NOT what he said. Regardless of what he said in the past, he said on Monday that he was the worst player that night. How on earth do you claim that you are not misinterpreting what he said? I'll bet you voted for Nobama too...

    Blues Place Legace on Waivers

You guys are misinterpretting the sound bite. The election is over, you have to actually read the entire quote. He said on Monday that he played that night like the worst player in the league. That's alot difference than saying that he is the worst player in the league overall “Guys played great and I’m the reason that we lost,” Legace said. “I was the worst guy in the NHL tonight.”

    Interesting stat...

Actually that's right. Look at shots/game and shots against/game. Last year S/G 34.4 Last year SA/G 23/5 Differemce 10.9 This year S/G 35.6 This year SA/G 28.1 Difference 7.5 We are not outshooting the oposition by as much. You could argue that this is because we don't have the puck as much

Osgood has worst save percentage in the league

It's certainly not as big an exaggeration but Osgood has had a few good games but not many.
  21. chrisdetroit

Osgood has worst save percentage in the league

You read the stat wrong. The stat is that the Wings are 29-9-4 when they out shot their opponents. That means that they have outshot their opponents 42 out of the 49 games. They are #1. San Jose would be #2 with 33.
  22. chrisdetroit

Osgood has worst save percentage in the league

More outlanish exaggerations. EVERY game huh? How then did Conklin get 4 shutouts? How did we have the 1.9 GAA in the 10 games before the losing streak. Don't make statements that are just pure exaggerations.

Should we start rooting for Florida to tank?

Yea. Almost as bad as the fire McCrimmon suggestion...

Should the Red Wings Fire Assistant Coach Brad McCrimmon?

Past his prime? How was he so great in last year's playoffs then. He wasn't past his prime then? He must have aged greatly between June and October.
  25. chrisdetroit

Should the Red Wings Fire Assistant Coach Brad McCrimmon?

Unbelievable. The Wings are on a 5 game losing streak and you want to fire the assistant coach. What about the 10 games before the losing streak when they gave up only 19 goals for a 1.9 GAA.
