    What happens next..?

Agreed, the defense needs to step up but all is not lost. Before the 5 game losing streak we were improving. In fact in the 10 games before the streak we allowed 19 goals total. That's 1.9 GAA. So back away from the ledge. It's only 5 games. We have a very capable defense. Everybody wants to focus on the last 5 games and ignore the 10 before that. Too much pessimism in here...

    What happens next..?

I disagee. We HAVE gotten better and we are one of the top teams in the league. Look at the relevant team stats and where the teams are right now (after losing 5 straight games) winning percentage 3rd goals/game 1st goals against/game 20th 5 on 5 (GF/GA) 5th pp% 1st pk% 25th shots/game 1st shots against/game 5th faceoff % 1st Other than our PK and goals against we are in the top 5 in every catagory and the goals against is a problem on the PK not 5 on 5. And this is after losing 5 straight. Before the 5 game losing streak we were 11th in GAA which had steadily improved from 24th earlier in the year. The Wings ARE still one of the elite teams in the league. They have just had a bad run these last few games. They will snap out of it.

Red Wings TV Ratings Down 21%

Wait a minute with the European theory. Down 21% from last year? Well we have almost the same team so your argument doesn't hold. We lost Hasek (European) and replaced him with Conklin (American) Mac didn't come until late so he doesn't count.

    Canucks crying about travel woes

Dallas actually has the worst travel schedule in terms of miles. They have a long way to travel for their divisional games - Phoenix, Aneheim, San Jose and LA. And of course they play each of those teams 6 times. Vancouver is whining about traveling to the east coast and they only play those teams once. All that said, the schdules for lots of teams including the Wings is not very good. To many back-to-backs and to many away trips in the middle of home stands. There should be some guidlines in terms of schedules so that everybody gets a fair shake. Each team should have the same number of back to backs...

    You flunked math?

    Hossa or Lids

Huh? You're kidding right? He went from a Norris Trophy to past his peak in 1 year.

Bettman suspends Lidstrom, Datsyuk 1-game each

The whole thing came crashing down this year when they let the fans of a few teams stuff the ballot boxes. This resulted in teams of all stars missing many of the actual stars. Then the players as well as the fans decided that the entire thing was a farce and started declining invitations. What the league is left with is an all star game missing most of their stars and a fan base that has completely lost interest. I'm a big fan but I have no interest in watching Aneheim and Chicago play against Montreal. I expect dismal television ratings. They need to rethink the entire team. What a debacle. An all star game without most of the stars...

    Goalie Issues...

Backstrom makes 3.1 mil this year and with the season he is having he's easily 4mil a year. where are the Wings going to get the cap space? ANd if you think Minny would trade him... It's not gonna happen.

    Goalie Issues...

W will NOT be facing the Sharks in the playoffs. The Wings and Sharks will finish 1-2 or 2-1 which means we couldn't play them until the WCF (fixed) and the Sharks always lose before that. hahahahahah

Wings & Zetterberg Close to Deal

You are forgetting about inflation. 10 years from now $7 mil will not be very much money unless you think that the cap is going to keep going down for 10 straight years...

    Convinced yet?

Oh for Christ's sake. You are imply that Franzen was injured because he was roughed up. He has a cramp and he even said it wasn't from a hit. The difference in the game was that they scored on 2 break aways and we didn't score on our two. We scored 5 goals against them in their own building. Did you even watch the game? We did not get physically dominated, and we lost by 1 goal in their own building. As far as them being bigger and hungrier, that's what everybody said when we met them in the 07 playoffs.

    Keeping "The Big 3"

ah...that's not gonna happen. I agree that Mule may be looking for 5 mil but no way Hossa is going to take a pay cut. I think Hossa is gonna comand 8 mil discount or not so realistically there is $3mil difference between them and that is money that could be spent on Sammy or Rex.

    The Ducks

Brian Burke signs the whole lot of them and moves them to Toronto which becomes known Goon City East. The entire NHL Media being Canadian gets down on their knees and praises him for bringing all those big strong tuff Canadian boys to Toronto where they belong. And no, I'm not being sarcastic. I see this happening (more or less).
  18. I think that neither Hank nor Hossa are going to sign for anything less than $8 mil / year. It's what the market will bear and if Sundin is worth more than $8 mil, certainly Hossa or Z are worth that. How much you think Kevin Lowe would offer either to come to Edmonton? Or our friend Burke in Toronto? We are not going to get either of these guys for less than 7.5.

    Drapers line

    Not gonna happen.
  20. chrisdetroit

    Drapers line

I'm thinking that that is exactly what will happen. The they will be able to bring up Leino or Helm. Malts and Drapes aren't going anywhere though I wouldn't be surprised to see Drapes sit in the very near future.

    Pronger

I wouldn't take the goon period. The guy has been suspended 8 frickin' times. There is no place in the NHL for guys like that. I have no problem with hard clean hits or fighting but no thanks on the dirty hits 8 times!

    An idea

LOL. You MUST be a troll. One of the dumbest ideas I've heard in a while.

    Keeping "The Big 3"

No way that the Wings are going to say goodbye to kopy, Sammy, Huds and Flip. And replace them with 4 guys from Grand Rapids. That would be just stupid. We would be trading alot of experience for guys that have barely played any in the NHL. Getting younger is great but you don't do it all at once. That is just not going to happen. Face the facts man, Hossa is gone. The Wings are going to sign Z, Mule and Huds. They may have to trade away Sammy or Lebda but the numbers just don't add up to keep Hossa unless you gut the team and Kenny just isn't going to do that. We are just to good to trash the roster for 1 guy even if it's Hossa. As far as Pittsburgh. I think that Therien was one of the reasons that Hossa left. Word is that the players don't like him. I expect Therien to be gone if the Pens don't make the playoffs and they are in danger of just that. It wouldn't surprise me to see Hossa back in Pittsburgh. But thats IMO. Enjoy the year with Hossa in a Red Wings uniform because he won't be back next year - simple math...

    New Club Record

The Wings would be #1 in that catagory (S/G-SA/G) Wings 9.4 Sharks 7.5 Leafs 4.4 Kings 3.1 Everybody else less than 3 Interestingly Boston actually gives up more shots than they take. That tells me that they are winning on goaltending. Not a good recipe for sucess.
