    New Club Record

You must have fallen asleep somewhere along the way. The Wings as of today are #11 in GAA at 2.73.

    Hossa

From MLive I know I'm in the minority with this, but when I try to be objective about Hossa and his salary, there is no way he deserves more than Pav or Z and even to an extent Franzen. Don't get me wrong-He can really score goals and protect the puck and draw penalties. He also produces highlight reel backchecking. But what if the puck is already down low and the Red Wings have to knuckle down and grind it out of the zone? I never see him win those battles, which Pav and Z do so on a shift-by-shift basis. As far as anticipating defensively and knowing what spot to be in so that you can get the puck back, Hossa is seemingly always chasing while Pav and Z are better at staying one step ahead of who they're defending. What are your thoughts? I never thought of that but I think that he's right...

The comments were from M-Live not me but if you watch Hossa, I agree with the comments.

    Ken Holland's "Deadline Special" Predictions

    You are correct.

    Bobby Ryan

This is like the Hossa versus Mule debate. It is meaningless. You are comparing apples and oranges. Mule is a 29 year old established player who looks like he is going to be a 35-40 goal scorer and he is going to go for 3-4 mil. This Bobby Ryan guy is a 19-20 year old very talented prospect who hasn't played in the NHL. He is worth maybe a mil a year right now. Sure he has great potential but so di alot of people. Some made it some didn't. You can't compare the two. An established 35-40 goal scorer who is probably at his peak or a young prospect who might be even better. 10 out of 10 gm's? I don't think so. It depends what the gm's are looking for. Another young prospect on say the Blackhawks isn't going to help. They need established players. It's never as simple as you make it out to be.

    D pairing: Kronwall and Stuart

You are kidding right? If not then you have completly missed what it means to be part of a team.

    D pairing: Kronwall and Stuart

Stuart is even (0) Kronwall is -4 I wouldn't call that atrocious. Atrocious would be Kris Draper at -11. League worst for defensemen is -21 (Brendan Witt)

    D pairing: Kronwall and Stuart

What is that based on? Pessimism? Stuart was a trade deadline acquisition and shortly after he came to the Wings, he was out with a broken finger right up to the start of the playoffs. So, yea, he didn't get going until the playoffs but that is understandable. You are correct that Kronner has only had the 1 great playoff year but he was out the year before for the entire playoff and the year before that was the year of the Edmonton debacle so in all fairness, he has only had 1 year where he had the chance to step it up for the playoffs. As far as Ericsson, if the Wings decide he is ready and bring him up next year, he will most likely take a spot on the 3rd pairing or be the 7th guy. It's not likely that the will trade away a number 3 or 4 D man to help with the salary cap. Most likely trade bait as has been discussed here ad nauseum - Lebda, Sammy, Fillpula, Lilja, Meech, Kopecky. It's unlikely that Stuart is on the list unless he starts to totally suck and that's not gonna happen.

    D pairing: Kronwall and Stuart

Kronwell and Stuart haven't been playing well defensively tough they are starting to come around. That said, neither are going anywhere. You saw them last year in the playoffs, they are more than capable. They just need to pick it up. We know that they can play great so why would we get rid of either to put in a guy like Ericsson who has almost no NHL experience? Patience. Ericsson's time will come but only when it makes sense.

    osgood

It's now down to 2.90 after last night's game. I have been tracking this on a spreadsheet. It is now at it's lowest point since game 7. Things are looking up...

No Red Wings on All Star starting line up

Agreed. I wish none of the Wings were going. I'd prefer they rested but it still pisses me off that it is so easy to cheat. How can the NHL be so clueless to allow fans to cheat so easily?

    What's wrong with Hossa?

That's exactly what Kenny IS going to do. Z will be signed before the All Star game. You are right that neither is leaps and bounds better than the other but Z is the face of the club and our future Captain. He has also stated that he want to play his entire career here. Hossa hasn't. That's a big difference. Loyalty and commitment to the organization is the deciding factor.

    What's wrong with Hossa?

He's fine. A 5 game no goal streak is insignificant. He has 34 points in 36 games. I expected his production to drop somewhat when he came to the Wings because he doesn't have to carry the entire load by himself. He's getting chances. They will start going in again soon. He's had 20 shots on goal in those 5 games and he averages about an 11% scoring rate so he would normally average 2-3 goals in those 5 games.

    The Weather Channel announces...

Yea, I noticed that too. He kept saying that Dats got a blast of wind just as he split the D. I can't stand the NBC crew. I guess I spolied listening to Ken and Mickey. They actually talk about what is going on in the game.

    Chicago's 9 game streak

Toews said something to the effect that they played the same way last night but they were playing a better opponent so I checked who they played in those 9 games Phoenix Ottawa Colorado Columbus Edmonton Calgary Vancouver Philadelphia Minnesota Of those 9 only Calgary is in the top 4 in points in their conference (and only by 1 point) I guess it's pretty easy to be the boston Celtics when playing those powerhouses. hehehehe

I Love to Hear Broadcast Crews Squirm

Same idiot that said the Avs were going to beat the Wings in round 2 last year and just before the game when they found out that Foppa wasn't playing, Melrose changed his prediction to the Wings. Eddie still though that the Avs would win. Clueless is the word that comes to mind.

2009 Winter Classic: Red Wings 6, Blackhawks 4

Get used to Michigan not being in bowl games. They aren't going to be in one next year either. You should be ok, just pretend that it's the NCAA basketball tournament. hehehehee Go Spartans!

    Franzen or Hossa?

I am shocked that the LGW posters have so rapidly jumped on the keep Franzen bandwagon. The season is less than half over so it's a little early to say who is playing better. Hoss or Mule. Hossa is more talented than Franzen but it is looking like Mule is a slower developer. Both Hossa and Mule are about the same age but Mule looks like he is still improving. I think that Hossa is at his peak. I'd be surprised if Kenny shopped Flip. He just signed him long term and he has so far been underachieving. The way he has been producing so far this year, I'd be surprised if another team would be willing to give him the $3mil per year. I like Flip and I think he has great potential but for various reasons, he isn't getting it done so far this year. Z will be signed long term. This is a sure thing. A couple of weeks ago, they were getting close. Hossa is not going to sign for less than what he makes now. That is just unrealistic. I'd be surprised if Huds gets an offer sheet. I say this because there were only what 2? 3? offer sheets all of last year in the entire league. There are lots of other RFA's that I'd tender an offer to before Huds. He's very talented but unfortunately, he's small. Not many teams will be interested. As I said, just my opinions.

    12/30 GDT: Red Wings 4, Blackhawks 0

Have you EVER predicted a Wings win?
  22. chrisdetroit

LOL check out this GEM of a Topic....

I get your point but you have your facts wrong. 1994-1995 was a srtike shortened season. The Wings won 33 out of 48 games and were swept in the finals In 1995-96 won 62 games and lost in the WCF to Colorado.

LOL check out this GEM of a Topic....

Based on what? Most of our top players are in their prime and we have some very good young guys in GR. The only negative I see is Lids retiring and Hossa going away.

What do you think could jumpstart the Wings?

a bit of an exaggeration don't you think....

What do you think could jumpstart the Wings?

I guess we do have different definitions. Losing by 1 goal to a team we should have beat isn't embarssing in my book. It's disappointing but that's hockey. As far as losing to top teams you point out that we beat a tired San Jose team ignoring that it was actually a 6-0 blow-out but then forget to mention that we were tired when we lost to them in San Jose. You should be more objective. If you aren't going to give us credit for beating a tired team, then you shouldn't give our opponents a free pass for beating us when we are tired. As far as top teams here how we have done Montreal 0-1 first game back from long West Coast trip Boston 0-1 we were on back to back with travel in between San Jose 1-1 each played tired once Aneheim 1-0-1 they were tired, we were not Pittsburgh 0-0-1 Wings dominated for 50 minutes before collapsing Chicago 2-0 This is the general concenses of the better teams and we are a combined 4-3-2 which isn't great but it is horrible either. On paper, we should finish the year 82-0 or at least 78-0 if you think that San Jose is better than us. But hockey isn't played on paper. The Wings need to pick up their GAA and their PK but overall they are not doing badly and have the 3rd best record in the league. The sky isn't falling...
