Dats signed his contract 2 or 3 years ago. Inflation has increased salaries since then. If Dats was signing a contract this year it would easily be for 7-8 mil. I expect Z to sign for 7.5 or more. 8mil would not surprise me.

Yes but remeber you can only dress a certain number for the games. Last year we had many of our prospects traveling with us as part of the team in the playoffs. Of course only a certain number are on the roster for the game, but we can change that every day if we want to.

The Wings won 62 games in 1995-96 and that was before there were shootout and overtime wins.

1. After a penalty is called the face-off comes into the offensive zone of team on the power play. All of the coaches have agreed that this leads to more time on the power play and thus more scoring. 2. There are no commercial breaks when there is an icing called. This leads also to more potential scoring as the team that iced the puck does not get time to rest. 3. The goalie pads have gotten smaller leading to more potential scoring. 4. When a puck hits the goalpost and goes out of play the face-off stays in the attacking zone. Small changes but they all lead to more scoring chances.

Huh? What did you flunk math? 22-10 is a winning percentage of .6875 and a .6875 winning percentage is good for 56 games over an 82 game season. 56 games is good for 112 points. And this is even if we don't count the overtime wins like you suggest.

Where did you get that gem from?

You are ignoring the biggest part of this. Hossa is gonna command at least what he is making this year $7.45M + while Mule is gonna go for 3-5M depending on who you talk to so to say we should keep Hossa over Mule is meaningless. You need to compare Hossa with Mule + Huds and or Sammy. When you do that it is alot less cut and dry. Nobody is going to say Mule is better than Hossa so stop with the comparisons.
-
Mule for 3.4? Z for 6.7? That's just not gonna happen. Z will get 7-8 Mule 3.5-4

Well said. Plus Illitch has an unbelieveable contract with the City of Detroit as long as the Wings stay at the Joe. It makes no sense business-wise to build a new arena.

It's just you.

Vancouver beats San Jose in the 2nd round. That would be sweeeet...

Only if there was no cap. Hossa is replaced by Leino/Helm Huds is replaced by Leino/Helm Cheli Retires Conklin is replaced by Larson or Howard Lebda is replaced by Ericsson Kopetsky is replaced by Abdelkader? Forget free agents, we have no cap space. Franzen is not going anywhere. Huds or Sammy will go before mule. Hossa is gone for sure.

Here's the problem I have with this all. The Sharks have had great seasons the last few years. The failing has always been that no matter how great they play in March they haven't stepped it up like all the other teams do when the playoffs start. Playing at the level that they are now will NOT be enough in the playoffs because everybody else is going to play with more urgency. Until we get to the playoffs and see if the Sharks are going to play playoff hockey it all is just speculation. The Wings won 62 games in 1996 and in the Conference Finals even though they were a much better team than the one that was crushed is the SCF the previous year. We all said that they were "truly different than the past years team".

hahahahahah pessimist

Ok it's a big game but for Christ's sake it's only 1 game in December. It's not so important that they win but how they play. We are not going to go 0-4 against the Sharks. I have a feeling that the Sharkies have peaked way to early. This has helped by a generous amount of home games to start the season. They've aleady played 18 fricking home games. 7 out of their next 10 are on the road so we will see.
-
The Sharks are NOT on pace to shatter our 1995-96 record of 62 wins. They have won 25 out of their 31 games, however 5 were in Shootouts/OT. That means that they only won 20 out of 31 in regulation. 20/31 * 82 = 52.89. The Sharks are on pace to win about 53 games. Sorry, a little off topic but I had to get that out

Oh for f%$# sake. Here we go with that s*** again...

So you know better than Kenny? RIGHT......

Food for thought: Interesting Statistics that speak volumes
chrisdetroit replied to sureWhyNot's topic in General
So you went and picked our lowest scoring guys and made a comparison to the leagues enforcers. From this you concluded that the enforcers are as skilled as our lowest scoring guys? What is your point? Lilja and Stewart are never going to be big scorers but that's not what we have them for. They are tough stay at home defensemen who hit and block shots. No way I would trade either one for an enforcer. you are misquoting stats to fit you argument. -
First of all, until a few years ago, there were no points for shootout or overtime losses so it's not a fair comparison. Secondly they are only a measly 4 points ahead of Boston and only 6 ahead of the Wings. Sorry but that doesn't qualify them to be "head and shoulders above the rest of the league"

2001 Lost in 1st Round to St. Louis 95 pts 2002 Lost in 2nd round to Colorado 99 pts 2003 Did not make playoffs 2004 Lost in WCF to Calgary 104 pts 2006 Lost in 2nd round to Oilers 99 pts 2007 Lost in 2nd round to Wings 107 pts 2008 Lost in 2nd round to Stars 108 pts 2009 Lost in 2nd round to.... Not only did they lose but they lost after having some great regular seasons.

Yea right and Lee Harvey Oswald did not act alone when he shot Kennedy. If the losing teams get more power play opportunities it would stand to reason that over the season that has been played the number of opportunities would be higher for the teams like Dallas, the Inslanders, etc. Well let's take a look... Top 5 teams in PPO Rangers Calgary San Jose Carolina Pittsburgh Montreal Bottom 5 teams (least PPO) New Jersey Boston Florida Aneheim Detroit There's no pattern. 2 of the top teams - Boston and Detroit get less power play opportunities but so does Florida 3 of the 5 teams that get the most are quality teams - Rangers, San Jose and Montreal It may make a good sound bite but the refs don't favor the teams that are behind overall.
-
And I didn't think that it could get even more ridiculous.....
-
No. Turco would be the low point...

That's some strange logic there. We can't keep him next year so lets get rid of him now so we lose him for the remaining 2/3's of this year also. There isn't an top 10 goalie in the league that makes what Rex is making. Not sure why you want Voukoun. His save percentage is 18th in the league. Granted that's better than Ozzie's but Hudler and Flip for Voukoun, ah, no thanks
