An idiot because they don't agree with you? Nice... You can't compare the 2 guys. Mule is a power forward that will command maybe 3 mil unless he has a spectacular season then it could be 3.5. Hossa is a high scoring forward who will go for at least 7.5 mil. If you can't keep both then it's Hossa or Mule + another 4 mil player. The choice all depends on how the 2 players play this year. Hossa has had several poor playoff performers and has been a mercinary the last 3 or 4 years. Being part of a team and no longer the top dog is a completely new scenario for him. He may or may not fit in. Mule has come off a 3 month performance that if he kept it up would have earned him a nomination for the Conn Smyth. Wheter or not he continues this performance remains to be seen. We will see but anybody that would make that decision today before all the fact are in is "an idiot, a homer, or both"

I just checked, it went up 6.4 last year.
-
5 straight? For Chrits' sake, we need more than 5 straight....
-
The cap went up about 7 mil last year. If it does so again this might be workable. Hossa stays the same at 7.45 Z gets about the same say 7.5 (which is a raise of 4.6) Franzen gets 3.0 (raise of 1.8) Rex goes up to 2.0 (raise 0.8) Sammy is gone Kopecky is gone Conklin is gone Downey is gone It all hinges on the cap increase. It needs to be AT LEAST 7 mil.
-
They can't trade Khabi because nobody in their right mind would pay him 6.75 mil a year. They overpaid for him and are now stuck with him for 1 more year. My bet is that they buy him out.
-
Yea because Downey cemented our Stanley Cup with his performance in the playoffs. Oh wait.....

I'm not knocking Hudler, I agree that he has done well with his limited ice time but Franzen had a break-out last 2 months of the season and playoffs. It's like a switch was turned on and he suddenly started playing with confidence. He admits this came from him being thrust into the role when Homer went down to injury. Mule is a big guy with very good hands and when he plays with confidence like he did in March, April and May, he is an awesome player. I don't think anybody feels this was a fluke. The only question is wether he can keep up his confidence. I think that it's unlikely that he will go back to playing the way he did earlier - just my opinion. Yes, Hudler was more productive most of the season but Franzen had a break-out which is something we are all waiting for Rex to do. If Franzen continues where he left off and Huds doesn't have a similar break-out the there is no comparison. I'd take the March-May Mule over Rex any day.
-
True but you can't compare the two. Hudler didn't break Gordie Howe's record for the most game wininig goals in a month and then follow that up 2 months later with the record for the most goals in a playoff series (which happened to be only a 4 game series). We are not talking about a goal here or there. How can you compare that with Hudler who has done nothing even remotely close to that.

I was worried that Z would go out and do something that you didn't agree with and totaly screw up the deal.

Are you kidding me? That will not be a problem. People will find a new whipping boy. There are lots of people set to pounce in Flip because of his new contract - in fact some of them are already bitching. Then there is Kronwall, who if (God forbids) gets hurt, will be pummeled on LGW. Finding a new whipping boy for LGW will NOT be a problem. -

lighten up man. You can't take a little bit of constructive critcism once and awhile? You made a gramatical error, I pointed it out and you get all defensive. Jeeez -

No, Kwame Kilpatrick resigned, Quincy re-signed. re·sign –verb (used without object) 1. to give up an office or position, often formally (often fol. by from): to resign from the presidency. re-sign –verb (used with object), verb (used without object) 1. to sign again. 2. to renew or extend a contract -
Rex finished 4th among forwards in points for in the most important games - the playoffs. Behind Z, Dats and Mule. Not bad for a 4th liner.
-
Just think how PO'd some of the Hossa worshipers on LGW would be - and there are alot of them.

Most common theory is that it is because Aurie is not in the HOF. Obvioulsy, neither is Yzerman but we all know that he is a shoe in as soon as he is eligeable.
-
Aurie's No. 6 jersey was officially retired by Wings owner James Norris after the 1938–39 season, and his retired jersey was displayed in the Olympia Stadium lobby during the 1960s. However, current Red Wings owner Mike Ilitch has for some unknown reason refused to hang Aurie's No. 6 from the rafters at Joe Louis Arena with the other six retired numbers. Aurie's No. 6 was reissued only once, to his nephew Cummy Burton, with the family's blessing. The other retired banners hanging in Joe Louis Arena without Aurie's No. 6.Aurie's No. 6 had been listed as retired in the Official NHL Guide and Record Book since 1975, when retired sweater numbers began being featured in the book. At the time, three numbers were listed as being retired by Detroit: Aurie's No. 6, Gordie Howe's No. 9, and Alex Delvecchio's No. 10. Before the 2000–01 season, Ilitch ordered the number removed from the publication - again without explanation. His refusal to honor Aurie in the same manner as the other Red Wings players with retired numbers remains a mystery to the hockey world. There are many theories, but nothing firm has ever come from the front office, or Ilitch himself.

Shhh... Don't even hint at another Kronwall vs Kronvall discussion. My mind is still numb from the last one..
-
I hate these lists when they group defenseman, forwards and goalies together. It's like comparing apples to oranges. Obviously, Lids is the best active d-man.

One of the best things about the 08-09 season...
chrisdetroit replied to thedisappearer's topic in General
No. You are thinking of Brad Stuart -
I hope that you are right. I guess you can interpret things anyway you want to make your point. This is the best interpretation that I've ever heard though points aren't the only way to be visible which could be used against your argument when you get to this one if Marian is a s***ty playoff player so are Datsyuk and Zetterberg I'm getting dizzy reading this... gotta go lay down LOL
-
Just wanted to point out that you are making inaccurate statements. This was an example. No Hull at 38 isn't better than Hossa at 29 but Hossa isn't better in every aspect as you stated. You are not being objective.
-
My argument is that there are some concerns IMO about Hossa. He has had some poor playoff performances recently (only 2 years ago), he just came off of his worst regular season and despite being on some very good Ottawa teams most of his career, he has never played for the cup. This happens every year. A player has a great playoff series and the hockey world goes gaga over him. Often the player then lays an egg the following year - Khabibulin, Brad Richards, Scott Neidemeir, Ray Emery, it's a long list. I hope Hossa isn't on it. That's all I'm trying to say. The Wings are sucessful because they are built on great talented team players we will see if Hossa fits in. As far as Brett Hull comparisons, I agree it is ridiculous to compare a 29 year old forward with Brett Hull in his last few years of his career. I don't know why that was even brought up.
-
So Hossa hass a better shot than Hull? Didn't think so. That must not be one of the "every other aspects" that you were refering to....
-
It comes down to this. There are some concerns about Hossa. Hopefully he can answer these concerns but until he does, I'm reseving judgement: 1. He has never won anything despite being on some very good Ottawa teams most of his career. 2. 5 out of 8 years he was a no show for the playoffs including the year before last. 3. He's coming off of his worst regular season of his carrer. 66 points in 72 games and a horrendous -14. Ok he played for Atlanta but he also played for Atlanta the last 3 years. He seems to be a bit overrated on LGW. Most of the "experts" have him as about #12 in terms of best players in the league.
