I'm with you but you also have to weigh the disadvantages: 1. It would require a move from Canada to the US. I don't know how significant that would be for Mats and his family. 2. Detroit is already stacked. He would not be the #1 guy on the team nor the Captain. In fact he probably would not even be on the first line. I can't image Babs splitting up the ZDH Line. 3. Detroit is in the Western Conference and that means lots of travel. 4. He is not going to get $8 mil. No way Holland pays him more than Nick of Pavel. I hope we get him but I'd be surprised if we did. I bet he goes to the Habs

If I had to bet on the best team in the east, I'd have to go with the Habs. Think about it who else is there? Pittsburgh is being split up, the Rangers could lose a few key guys, Washington and Philly have a ways to go. It would surprise me to see Mats go to Montreal thinking they have a shot. Of course, we all know that they do have a shot - but only to make it to the finals.

I think I'm gonna puke.....

I'm responding to your sarcastic comment about Holland not spending all of his cap money. Go back and read my previous posts before you make a statement like that.
-
Uh.... His "stretch run" was the entire month of March and every playoff game he played. That is more than a "stretch run". If you are counting on Frazen's production to suddenly disappear, you are sadly mistaken my friend. I'm thinking 30 goals...

He left because Kenny would not give him more than a 1 year deal and rightly so due to health issues. Why would Kenny now change his mind? I'm glad Kenny eithe doesn't read this forum or laughs at the ridiculous comments posted.

Either your memory is going or you have on your rose colored glasses. 7 points in 16 playoff games. Can't think of a negative - how 'bout his -2 in +/- in last years playoffs. Not exactly what we were looking for when we signed him. Overall, a disapointing showing. Not sure why we would want to try again. Back with the Ducks this year he had 2 points in 6 playoff games and was -2 again. We really don't need guys that don't score and aren't good defensively no matter how big they are.
-
You completey missed the point. His health IS the point. To say he played well when he was healthy is not a very good basis for an argument when his bigest problem is his health. I do agree that if we could get him for 1Mil or so and he'd be content on the 4th line but that's pretty unrealistic. A guy that was paid $4 mil last year is not going to accept a contract for 1-2 mil.

Not a valid comparison. Bert is nearing the end of his career and his scoring touch is declining. Flip is at the begining of his career and is showing great potential for improvement. It makes no sense to compare the two.
-
I don't think you have to worry about Burke since Flip is neither big nor Canadian.
-
Exactly. Why isn't he already signed?
-
Really. I think that it was alot more than just 1 bad move. 1. Overpaying Bertuzzi. He offered him much more than what we were offering and the guy was coming off of back surgery. $4mil for 2 years for that? This is just a stupid decision. No way any other GM in the league offers him more than 1 year. It's too much of an unknown. 2. Penner recieved an offer sheet because Burke didn't sign him in time. Burke had the option to sign him BEFORE anybody could post an offer and he let the opportunity get away. Another bad decision. 3. Burke let his #1 Defenseman not show up to play until January when he was under contract. That created uncertainty with his team. How can anybody let that happen. How do you make any plans not knowing if your #1 D man is going to play or not. 4. Burke waived Bryzgalov. He gave him away for nothing. I can't wait until the Ducks play Phoenix in the playoffs and Bryz beats Giggy. What a stupid move. 5. Burke traded McDonald for washed up Doug Weight. Duh! So I count 5 really bad moves in 1 year. In my book there is no way he is one of the better GM's. Or at least he wasn't last year.
-
I agree with most of this but the Dan Cleary part. Dan was a young guy whose career never got on track. Bertuzzi is and old guy at the end of his career who has had serious health problem. Most recently he was lost for almost an entire season to back surgery and since coming off of the back surgery has not looked anything like his former self. I don't think you can compare the 2. If we can get Bert cheap Kenny might be interested as a 4th line guy like Drake, but I doubt that Bert is interested in being a 4th line guy for $1mil a year. That's a big step down from what the "best GM in the league" was paying him.
-
Sorry, I must have missed something. Bert has lost his scoring touch, that's why the Ducks are dumping him. And the size thing. We are not going to sign him just because he's big although many of the people on LGW think that size is the most important part of the game. So he's lost his scoring touch, he's slow and he doesn't have great hands. What's that leave. Size... Sorry that's not enough in my book.

There is no need to waste all our time and money. The Ducks did it for us. They basically signed him to see if he had anything left in the tank. The answer was a resounding no. It was so much a no that the Ducks are willing to eat 2/3 of the 4 Mil a year that they would have to pay him. If we want to see what he has left, we can watch the films of the Ducks games. If we brin him back, that means that Kenny feels that he will somehow be BETTER playing for us than playing for the Ducks. That makes no sense. The Ducks are a perfect match for his playing style. The Wings style is condusive to fast forwards that can handle the puck well. That isn't Bert. Besides, we have filled his role with Franzen now.
-
Frick NO! As he showed when he was here, he just isn't any good anymore and whoever claims him has to pay him $4Mil per year.
-
This absolutely makes my day! Hehehehehehehe Good move Bert, you didn't want that cup anyway.....
-
I don't get it. Why is Kenny screwing around. Sign Flip for a couple mil a year NOW and you don't have to worry about an offer sheet - unless Kenny is hoping to low ball him when no one submits and offer sheet.
-
He's looking for 4-5Mil and you think that he'll settle for 3? You're kidding right?

Scott Niedermayer Has Decided To Play Again Next Year
chrisdetroit replied to Frozen-Man's topic in General
Now they just need to get back Selanne, McDonald, Penner and Bryzgalov and they will have a team that can compete.... 28th in the league and eliminated in the first round. hahahahahahahaha -
The Ducks forum is over there.... www.oneyearwonders.com/ducks I hear they like to hit

Yea, cause Holland sucks and has no idea what he is doing. We should have done what Pittsburgh did and gave up 3 top prospects and a draft pick for Hossa. Then we would have nothing to show for it except a Finals appearance in which we got our asses kicked...
-
I don't believe that. If all he wanted was to win a cup, he would have waived his no trade clause last year conditional that he could name the team. He would have ended up in Montreal, San Jose, Anaheim or Dallas or he would have been hoisting the Cup with the wings...
