Franzen 19 goals, 41 points, +25, GWG 9 (leads the league in GWG) Morrow 8 goals, 22 points, +4, 1 GWG There is no comparison. $4.1m per year for 22 points in 41 games. No thanks. A LITTLE less. 41 points compared to 22 points. Almost 50% less...

1/21 GDT: Blue Jackets 2 at Red Wings 3 (SO)

But the benefit that we are getting is not as much as our competitors. If you count shootout wins AND loser points (for OT/Shootout losses) here's the breakdown Minnesota 10 Los Angeles 10 Columbus 8 San Jose 8 Chicago 7 Colorado 7 Phoenix 7 St. Louis 6 Vancouver 6 Detroit 5 Calgary 5 Dallas 5 Anaheim 5 Nashville 4 Edmonton 4 We only have 5 of these extra points. Only Nashville and Edmonton have less. Look at Minny and LA. They have 5 more free points than us. -

Hudler hasn't been good on the shootout this year but Fil has only even taken a handful in his career. The only consistent shooter has been Dats who is one of the career league leaders. I think that it's all about who has the "hot hand" at the time. That said, the league average is less than 40%. The sample sizes for most guys are just to small to reach any meaningful conclusions. Dats is an exception because he always is one of the first 3. -

The Wings have benefited from some extra points in the shootout. If points were like they should be - 2 points for Regulation and Overtime win and 1 point for a tie (no shootouts), here's what the west would look like: St. Louis 62 Vancouver 60 Detroit 59 Chicago 57 Nashville 54 San Jose 48 Los Angeles 48 Calgary 47 Dallas 47 Minnesota 46 Colorado 45 Phoenix 45 Anaheim 37 Edmonton 36 Columbus 28 We'd be 3 points out of first and still 2 points above Chicago with a game in hand. St. Louis and Vancouver would be ahead of us. -

I'll take Mursak over Emmerton 6 days a week and twice on Sundays. I also want to see Conner. Speed and energy is what today's NHL is all about. -

WHEN (not if) the Wings win tonight they will be either first overall in the league with 65 points or 1 point behind Chicago (if Chicago wins) with a game in hand. If Chicago only gets 1 point the Wings will still be first because they have a game in hand. Chicago has only played 20 road games, the Wings have played 26. Both teams have similar road records. 13-13-0, and 10-8-2. -
Sorry, but I can't understand what you are trying to say. Did you go to school?

Over the last 3 or 4 years, Franzen has been one of if not the top playoff performers in the entire league. Why on earth would we even consider trading him? Who cares if it takes nights off in the regular season? Am I missing something?

1/14 GDT : Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 3 (OT)
chrisdetroit replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Not as close as the silly standings indicate with all of those loser points. The Hawks have given up 130 goals against. That is more than every team in the West but Columbus and Anaheim. The Wings have a ROW of 26 compared to Chicago's 22 and we have a game in hand. AND Chicago has played 4 less road games. Today, they were given a gift goal by Howard and had one go in off of Lidstrom's skate. They really aren't that good of a team. I think that the Hawks will drop in the standings with that 9 game road trip that they have coming up. -
1/8 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Blackhawks 2 (OT)

After an optional workout at the Hawks' practice facility down the street from the United Center, coach Joel Quenneville told reporters that star forward Patrick Sharp will be out "three-to-four weeks" with an undisclosed upper body injury Quenneville, however, doesn't want his team trying to overcompensate for the loss of Sharp by straying too far from the Hawks' tight-checking and solid defensive efforts that often lead to good offensive scoring chances Hahahah "Solid Defensive Effort" #20 in the league in GAA That 9 game road trip starting January 31st could be a problem if Sharp isn't back. -

Only if we need a Game Winning Goal. Since he leads the entire frickin league with GWG. Do you expect one every night? -
Cherry says stupid things all the time. He's fun to watch and laugh at but people shouldn't take him seriously. He hates the Wings because they have so many Europeans. He likes old time hockey when enforcers and fights were a big part of the game. They aren't anymore. The game has passed Don Cherry by.

I hate to interrupt the bulls*** with an actual fact, but Fanzen has 8 game winning goals which leads the entire National Hockey League. Brad Richards is second with 6. 8 guys have 5. He has a +22 which is number 1 in the NHL among Right Wingers. So explain to me again why you want to trade the most clutch player in the league.

Like all proposals, this has faults. You are splitting Philly and Pittsburgh which was one of the early objections to many of the plans. What happens when the Coyotes move to an eastern city (Quebec or Hamilton)? The Bettman proposal made it easier to move a team since the "conferences" were already unbalance with 7 or 8 teams,
-
Fair enough. So what is this "better way"? Anybody can complain. Let's here solutions. I think a lot of people are also forgetting a couple of things. With Winnipeg in the Southeast, that means that Florida, Tampa, Washington and Carolina have to travel all the way to Winnipeg again next year 3 TIMES each. Winnipeg also has to travel all the way to Tampa, Florida, Washington and Carolina 3 TIMES EACH. To not fix that alone is just plain stupid. Secondly, it's highly unlikely that the Coyotes will be in Phoenix next year since the taxpayers are not going to kick in more money for another year. So when the Coyotes move to Hamilton or Quebec City, they will have to travel all the way from Ontario to the West Coast to play San Jose, LA, and Anaheim as well to Dallas 3 TIMES for each. This is insane. With the proposed realignment, moving a team was much easier. Good idea. Veto the realignment. DUH!

Don't we have any people that know how to get things done.

people forget that Mule is a BEAST in the playoffs when he is healthy. He has 72 points in 83 playoff games in his career. He was playing injured last year in the playoffs but here's his point total before that: 2008 18 in 16 games 2009 23 in 23 games 2010 16 in 12 games Why would we even think of trading one of the top playoff performers in the league? Because he's streaky in the regular season? Are you people frickin crazy?

Goalie controversy in Philadelphia brewing?
chrisdetroit replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I was shocked when Philly signed him after getting absolutely lit-up by the Wings in the playoffs. That's the thing about goalies - there are many that have 1 good year and then go down the tubes. Unfortunately, many GM's in the league seem to ignore the pattern. Mason Bryz Ward Anderson Halak Theodore Emery Niemi It's a long list -
Here's the 5 ganme win streak; They beat the Islanders in OT, San Jose in OT, Minnesota in a shootout,Anaheim and Calgary in regulation. 2 regulation wins against non-playoff teams, an OT win against another non-playoff team, an OT win against the Sharks and a shootout win against Minny. I'm not impressed
-
My point is that though they may currently be near the top of the conference, it is only smoke and mirrors. By the end of the year, the shootouts and loser points will even out. The shootouts and extra points are spread almost evenly among the teams by the time they play 82 games. Right now Minnesota is on the positive side of that and it makes it look like they are a better team than they are. And no head-to-head games in the regular season mean nothing in the playoffs. Minnesota is not a better team than the Wings, not by a long shot but yes, they beat us. It doesn't prove anything except that they beat us.
-
Seriously? They are 20th in the league in GAA. Crawford has an .896 save percentage and Emery has a .909 save percentage. How on earth do you think that they are "solid"? Their PK is 27th. They've given up 96 goals. Compare that to Detroit who have given up 69. I can't wait to play them so we can light them up. A run at the Cup? hahah
-
2 games doesn't mean anything. The standings are artificial because of the shootouts and loser points. If you take away the loser points (OT and shootout loses) and the extra point for winning in a shootout (the game should end in a tie after OT with 1 point to each team), the Wild have 39 points in 33 games which is a .591 percentage. Not bad but not so impressive. Incidently, the Wings are at .629 My point is that they aren't doing that great now. It's all part of Bettman's smoke and mirrors...
-
No. I say that without any hesitation because they are currently #26 in the league in GFA. A team that doesn't score isn't going to go very far. They also have played more games than the Wings and have more shootout and loser points. Despite playing 2 games more than the Wings, their ROW is 3 less than the Wings. That's a 5 game swing in ROW out of only 30 or so games played. Sure they are great defensively but they are 29th worst in the league in Shots against/game. So they are poor in offense and give up tons of shots. They are depending totally on goaltending and have gotten 4 "extra" points for shootout wins plus they have played more games. You have to look beyond the headlines especially in a league that gives points for losing as well as extra points for a skills competition if the game is tied. As far as Danny Heatley, he has 22 points in 33 games. That's not exactly great. Uh. Sorry but No. They are near the bottom of the league in scoring.
-
How can you say that when they got crushed by Vancouver? Do you know what Niemi's career playoff save percentage is? It's .904. Last year it was .896. They won 5 straight OT games last year. 5 straight! They have a lousy goaltender and got to the third round because they got the breaks. As soon as the breaks stopped going their way they got crushed. You really need to read beyond the headlines. Yes, they beat us 4 games to 3. All the games they won were by 1 goal and 2 were in OT when they had pucks bounce off of Z's stick. Most complete team in the West? Seriously?

Based on what exactly?
