OK but it is not just the fact that the Duckies are down 2-0 it's the way that they have played and the fact that they played like this on their home ice. 1999: Detroit was up 2-0 against Colorado, lost the next 4 1 blow out, 1 OT loss for home team 2001: Detroit was up 2-0 against Los Angeles, lost the next 4 Home team (Detroit) won the first 2 2002: Detroit was down 2-0 against Vancouver, won the next 4 1 goal game and 1 OT loss for home team 2008: Detroit is up 2-0 against Nashville, the series remains to be seen TBD I'm looking for somebody to tell me when in the past the home team was blown out (2 or more goal win not counting empty netters) both times in the first 2 games and came back to win the series. I can't find where it ever happened.
-
Yes they did BUT 1 of the 2 was an OT loss. They got blown out 6-1 in the first game and lost in OT in the second. And the Wings being down to Vancouver 2-0 in 2002 also was different because that was a 1 goal loss followed by an OT loss. The Duckies have lost 4-0 and 5-2. It's not just that they lost, it's that they got killed both games. The fact that they are the defending champs means nothing. It means that they won last year. That has no bearing on this year. They don't have the same players and they are not playing Vancouver and Minnesota. Dallas' playoff woes the last few years also doesn't mean anything. I could mean that they underachieve and it could mean that they are hungrier. If we were down 2-0 to Nashville after getting beat 4-0 and 5-2 it would pretty much be over as much as we wouldn't want to admit it. We will see where the Duckies are next week. I am betting that they will be playing golf.

I agree with Trotz, they got robbed. The first goal should have counted. BUT it probably would not have changed the outcome because it was very early in the game. The Wings totally outplayed them for the last 2 periods. As far as Homer. It's pretty simple and you would think that Trotz would know this. Homer plays on the edge of goalie interference. With that I mean he is always close to interfering. Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't. Usually it is a judgement call. Sometimes he gets away with one and sometimes he gets whistled unjustly. That's the way he plays and he will not change it. That's why he is so good. There's only a couple of things you can do about it 1) Move him out of the way. This is almost impossible because he is very good at not moving and the oposition sometimes takes penalties themselves. Sometimes you get so distracted trying to move Homer that you lose focus and the puck ends up in the back of the net. 2) Play that way in front of Hasek. Also not easy to do because the wings players will make you pay. Most forwards are not willing to pay the price. Ryan Smyth is pretty good at it but nobody compares to Homer. 3) Whine about it so that you get the officials to pay more attention. This has mixed results. Sometimes it works for awhile but it usually only helps when there is clear interference. Once in awhile you will get a legitament goal called back when their is no interference. Trotz has chose to go with option 3. Will it work? Maybe I guess it really must be a ***** to have to play against the Wings when Homer is in his office.

You are right. I am so excited that I can't diviide. 1.0 GFA it is. Also what happened to "the greatest defense that ever played the game". 9 goals in 2 games = 4.5 GAA. OUCH!
-
Ok. You are right they are not technically out of it yet. Alot of people compared their fate to the Wings in '02 when we went down 2-0 to Vancouver. There is no comaprison. We lost the first game in OT and the second 4-2 with the last beong an empty netter. So we lost 2 1 goal games in '02. The Duckies however have lost 4-0 and 5-2. It's one thing to come back and win a series when you lose the first two games by 1 goal and quite another to turn it around when you lose the first 2 games by a combined score of 9-2. That said, I hope the rest of the series goes like this: Game 3 - Dallas in 3 OT Dallas 3-0 in series Game 4 - Aneheim in 3 OT Dallas 3-1 in series Game 5 - Aneheim in 3 OT Dallas 3-2 in series Game 6 - Dallas in 10 OT Dallas wins 4-2 Final Dallas 4-2. If it happens this way, Aneheim is 1 loss away from elimination in 3 straight games. I DON't want a game 7 because anything can happen. A sweep would be sweet but we need for Aneheim to beat the hell out of Dallas physically so that they are a broken team by the time we play them.

At least CBC is showing some common sense. About the first Preds goal The Red Wings appeared in command but Nashville caught some breaks to get back in the game. And also this quote: The Predators managed just nine shots over the last half of the game, and it cost them as the Red Wings kept pressing. That pretty well sums it up. No mention of Trotz and his wining because it doesn't matter. They got their butts kicked. period.
-
I am with you. Look at the save percentage in todays' game. Doms is better than Elliss' and 1.5 GAA is pretty damn good.
-
And notice how they didn't even mention the first Nashville goal that resulted from a lucky bounce off the end boards. Jeeez.... Talk about one sided. We simply outplayed them. Once again, we got some breaks and they got some but there is no doubt that the team that played better won the game. Instead of talking about that they want to dwell only on the breaks that we got.

Trotz says that Z's goal shouldn't have counted
chrisdetroit replied to Frozen-Man's topic in General
Sure they can be upset, the Wings would be if they were in the Preds shoes but if the call goes the other way and it goes into OT as you suggested and the Preds win, then that also is an injustice. Nobody knows what might have happened if the call goes the other way. We can all speculate but thats all it is is speculation. My point is, the call could have gone either way and it may or may not have affected the outcome of the game. In the end the team that played the best won and that is all we can hope for REGARDLESS of who the better team is. I want the better team to win every game regardless of the refs calls or non-calls. -
Trotz says that Z's goal shouldn't have counted

I can't believe how much this is getting blown out of proportion. Trotz isn't whining about it. He expressed his opinion when asked about it. That's it. As far as whether or not it was a good call, it is very hard to tell one way or another even with HD replays from multiple angles. Yes, there were other calls that should have gone our way but didn't as there were calls that should have gone the Preds way but didn't. That's the way the game goes. It's hockey. The best part about it is that the better team on Thursday won the game regardless of the calls or non-calls and that's the way it should be. I am a big Wings fan but I'm not a homer and I don't think that people on here should be critisizing Trotz. He's not out of line in expressing his opinion. -

If they Preds had outplayed us and lost because of this call then they woul have a right to be pissed. If the game was close also. From the replay it really isn't clear one way or another. Bottom line, the team that played better won the game. Sure the call helped but they didn't lose because of it. They lost because the Wings dominated the game. -
You completely missed my point. It's not about how either team played last month or last fall, it's about how they have been playing lately. 1. This was 2 games ago. Yea Hasek got pulled two weeks ago. 2. We haven't lost to Chicago recently and we beat them 2 days ago 4-1 3. We had a winning record against St. Louis, Columbus and Nashville. Only Chicago beat us 5 games to 3.

Yes on Lids No way on Ozzie, Feds or Shanahan, Meech is already wearing #14

I'm a Spartan fan. Maybe we should call him National Championship Goal Scorer. Hehehehe Sorry, I had to.
-
Uh...Getting penalty minutes is a bad thing unless you are fighting. He got 2 minutes for high sticking. I don't think that's something to brag about. Yes he played well for his first game but the statement about the penalty is a little but silly

If you are afraid of the Preds, you must be afraid of the other 6 WC teams. Of the 7 other playoff teams, the Preds are easily the weakest. 1 & 2 would be Sharks and ducks 3 would be Stars 4-6 would be Avs, Wild and Flames 7 would be Preds Who exactly AREN'T you afraid of? The Kings?
-
Wait a minute. In a goaltending war you are picking Ellis over Hasek/Osgood. You aren't serious are you?

It looks like it will be San Jose vs Calgary Aneheim vs Dallas Minnesota vs Colorado Detroit vs Nashville That is about the best matchups that we could hope for other than San Jose vs Aneheim. Calgary will play San Jose tough. San Jose is certainly the better team but as we found out before, it will be a punishing series. I would not be surprised to see San Jose get upset. But then again, San Jose gets upset every year. The Dallas of 2 weeks ago would have been a good match-up with the Ducks. Withut Zubov, I'm not so sure. If Turco plays like he did in last years first round, this will not be an easy first round for the Ducks. Remeber the Ducks are without their top scorer in the first round and they can't score much even with Perry. I'd like to see an upset but Dallas hasn't been playing well lately. Minny and Colorado will be interesting. It depends on which Avs team shows up. If the Avs win, it means Ducks and Sharks play in the second round if they both make it that far. Go Avs! Wings and Preds should not be close but as we know "anything can happen". It will be good to not have to spend so much time on airplanes. The Preds will play us tough but they really don't match up to us on paper. If we play like we are capable, we will take this pretty easily. As far as the East, I don't think that it really matters. Opinions?

If there are no upsets, second round would be Wings #1 - Duck #4 Shark #2 - Wild #3 In all cases, we play the lowest seeded team remaining. That means if: Scenario #2 Shark lose Duck Win Wild wins Wings - Flames Duck - Wild Scenario #3 Shark win Duck lose Wild Wins Wings - Stars Shark - Wild Scenario #4 This would be good Shark win Duck win Wild Lose Wings - Avs Duck - Shark Scenario #5 My Favorite Shark lose Duck lose Minny Wins Wings - Flames Wild - Avs Scenario #6 Shark lose Duck win Wild lose Wings - Flames Ducks - Avs Scenario #7 Shark win Duck lose Wild lose Wings - Stars Sharks - Avs Scenario #8 Shark lose Duck lose Wild lose Wings - Flames Stars - Avs So the only we we can play the Duck in round 2 is if their are no upsets. And the only way we play Duck and Shark in sucessive rounds is if there are also no upsets in round 3. It is impossible for us to play Shark in round 2 Of course there are other scenarios if the Wings were to lose but none of them matter because I will be to angry to care.

1. You haven't been watching lately. Ellis' hot streak ended after the 1-0 game that we beat him. He was pulled the next game after allowing 3 first period goals. 2. We beat Colorado all 4 times we played them and 3 of the 4 were shutouts. Yes, the Preds have been playing for their lives lately but they lost 4-1 to Chicago last night so the kinks in the armour are showing. 3. We took the Central team to lightly and they were up for us. That won't happen in the playoffs. And we won the series against the preds 5-3. Vancouver? You're kidding right. A 6 hour flight and to play against the best goalie in the league. He's not playing well today but that could change instantly. Vanvouver would be the team that I would LEAST want to play. When we have lost in the past is was because of hot goaltenders - Giggy, Roloson, Kiper...

Boy I must be stupid. I saw the topic and clicked on it anyway hoping to not here the same "we are not tough enough" drivel. Everybody said the same thing when we played Calgary and then again when we played San Jose. We lost BARELY against the Ducks without our #2 and #3 D-men. We proved last year that we ARE tough enough. Since then we have added Staurt, Downey and McCarty. And we have Kronwall back. We lost Lang and Schneider who definitely aren't tough guys, Markov who is and Bert who did nothing for us. We also added a big forward in Kopecky. So we are bigger and tougher than last year by anybody's account. Logic then says that if everybody stays healthy we have a very good shot.

This shouldn't be a debate. It's a free market. If a city has a team and I don't care if it's in Jamaica, and they make a profit, good for them. It's a business just like any other professional sport. If they don't make a profit, they aren't going to have a team for long because no businessman is going to sustain losses for a long period of time. It's tough on the game to see one of the better team like Nashville last year not be able to attract even the 14,000 fans that it needs to be viable but that's the breaks and it can't last long. If they continue to lose money, even the new group of owners will bail and another city will get a chance. The Stanley Cup belongs in the city of the winning team - period. This is a business, and like it or not emotions have nothing to do with it.

No Mac WAS a clutch player. Is he one now? We will see but lets get over the man love. Nobody gets a free ride on the Wings no matter how much the fans want it.

Exuse me but thats bulls***. San Jose is "built" for the playoffs. They are bigger and faster than the Ducks and as we all know they have not done anything in the playoffs. If they were "built" for the playoffs, how come they have won only 1 cup. The Ducks are not nearly as good this year as last year. They will go out in either the first or second round. No McDonald or Penner, no back up goalie and the inability to score (they are 28th in the league compared to 8th last year) so stop repeating what the guys on NBC are saying because it is total bs
