Why then are you repeating such stupid things.
-
A bit? Ramblings of Don Cherry mean absolutely nothing.

They are the best team in the NHL? Based on what? You must have something to base that on. They don't have the best record, don't score the most goals, don't allow the least amount of goals, don't have the best powerplay, nor the best pk. So what do you base that on? They won the cup LAST year but they have made significant roster changes since then. So exactly what is the basis of your statement? Oh, I know, it must be based on the names on a sheet of paper. And the reputation of those names is based on PAST accomplishments. Well, my friend, NONE of those famous names have played well this year. So you must be counting on them to suddenly start playing like they did in years past. I know what you are going to say. You will say that they will play great in the playoffs and the regular season means nothing. Well consider this, last year they played great in the regular season and well in the playoffs. This year you are counting on them to go from a mediocre regular season to cup winners. Not many teams have done that before. That's a pretty weak argument. Hockey isn't played on paper.

I would LOVE to see Blake go to the Ducks. Can't you see the pattern: Bertuzzi replaces Penner Schneider replaces Nieds (who then returns) Weight Replaces McDonald Bryzgalov is replaced by nobody Blake replaces draft picks? They are trading young guys for washed up guys!!! This is so increadibly stupid it boggles the mind! Maybe they should go after Feds too!
-
You are taking liberties with the facts to make your point. We don't have a TOTAL lack of big physical guys. Lilja, Franzen, Kopecky, Ellis, Holmstron are all big physical guys. Now before you go off the deep end, I am not saying that any of them are the next coming of Joe Thorton or Chris (ahole) Pronger but all 5 are big phsyical guys. As far as taking liberties with our smaller guys, I think the days of the enforcers are long gone. You think a goon like Pronger is going to think twice before hitting Datsyuk just because we have an enforcer on the ice. I think not.

No, I want to win the cup every year too. But to generalize that we ALWAYS lose early in the playoffs is crap. My point is that we don't ALWAYS make early exits, in fact we won 3 cups in the last 11 years and that shouldn't be dismissed so easily.
-
Jesus Christ. Where did you come up with that crap. That sounds like the same BS that all the experts were saying last year. Well we came within 30 second of beating them last year and that was without Kronner or Schneids and after beating hard phyisical teams like Calgary and San Jose while the Mighty Ducks played softies. Ok that was last year. This year we played them 4 times and finished 2-2. 3 of those 4 games were decided by 1 goal in hard fought games. 1 was forefitted by the guys in stripes. Can we play with these goons. Hell Yes! San Jose is bigger and more physical than the Mighty Ducks and we beat them in 7 games. Defensive Pessimism.
-
You shouldn't make statements like that based on some bs that you heard from somebody that doesn't know what they are talking about. The Wings lead the entire league in Goals. If you add up the goals scored by their top line Z, Pav and Homer, it comes to only 39% of the goals. So if we have no consistant scoring beyond the top line, who then scores the other 61% of our goals. Exactly. Check your facts next time.

Reagular season huh? Are you going to ingore the fact the we won the Cup in 97,98,2002? That's 3 times in 11 years. Ask Toronto fans if they would like to see the cup sometime in their lifetime. Or Chicago, or Boston Fans. Even the Rangers and the Canadians have had 1 cup a piece in the last 20+ years.
-
Why are so many people stuck on the "big physical" guys. Big physical guys that can play are great but having them doesn't guarantee anything. Just look at San Jose. Lilja is a big physical stay at home defenseman...... And just for the record, I have no problems with Lilja.

Finally, somebody with common sense.

The homer call could possibly be a good thing
chrisdetroit replied to WingMachine91's topic in General
Actually Jiggy didn't believe it either. Eventually he said that he was interfered with but he said that he was surprised that they called it translation = I'll take it but it was a BS call -
Ok then, if you are going to completely ignore the regular season, how do you determine if you need to add anything? Based on last years playoffs? Well that doesn't work because up until last year Dats was a no show in the playoffs. Based on your logic, we should have got rid of him. I guess that might have been a bit of a mistake huh? And then there's Robert Lang who always excels in the playoffs and sucks in the regular season. Maybe you think we should get him back. And as far as Sammy, he had a very good playoff last year. 14 pts in 18 games and he had 2 goals in the San Jose elimination game. We definietly need that in the playoffs. See, you have to evaluate players on what they do in the regular season as well as the past playoffs.
-
Ahh. That's not how it actually works. Even the best powerplay is NOT sucessful the majority of the time. See a 25% sucess rate on a power play is great. The wings were 2/8 which is 25%.
-
Blake Foppa and Lapointe? Wow, you are out of touch with reality my friend. Blake is washed up as is evidence by his poor play and what's more he is out with a broken anklle until at least a couple of weeks before the playoffs. You want him why? Because he was good 7 years ago? Oh and he's big and hits alot. Sounds like the same crap we heard about Bert and he did nothing for us. Blake is 38 and has a -13 this year and is out with a broken ankle. What on earth are you thinking? Feds hasn't had a good season since he left the wings. The last year he was with us he had 83 pt and was a +15. Since then he has had 3 stright years of 40-45 points and is on pace this year to have 41 and he has been a minus every year. Oh yea and he's also 38. As far as Marty, I'd say he's a maybe if the price is right. The difference is Marty is not a top line player and would be much cheaper than Blake or Foppa. Also Marty is only 34. He has been up and down since he left but he's not somebody that you are looking at to score lots of goals. Lastly you are not going to get Blake for Meech or Quincy and it's doubtful that Columbus would part with Feds since they are on the playoff bubble. Even if they would I sure as hell wouldn't give up a top prospect for him.
-
Here are the rules (common sense applies): 1. We don't want anybody that has injury problems - Blake, Fopaa 2. We don't want anybody that is washed up - Fedorov 3. We don't want anybody that is too expensive - Sundin, Hossa 4. The following prevoiusly mentioned are untouchable as well as the obvious choices - Flip, Kronner, Erickson, Kindl
-
Mark Bell? You aren't serious are you? And Franzen isn't going anywhere
-
Flip isn't going anywhere and rightly so.
-
I don't think it is huge at all. Sure, it will be a good test but in the grand scheme of things, it's not really that important. We have played the Mighty Ducks 3 times so far and beaten them twice. So we will finish either 3-1 or 2-2 against them. Plus the fact that we are missing Kronvall and Cleary and are playaing back to back. I'm not so sure what significance the game will have.

Put the gun down, it's not that bad. We lost 2 games in a row right before we won 8 in a row. Embarass themselves? Huh? You're crazy if you think that the Duckies are going to blow us out. They have only scored 14 goals in their last 9 games. That's only an average of 1.55 goals a game. It's either going to be a close game or the wings are going to win big if the Michelin man forgets to propely inflate his pads.
-
Me too. It's from the same crowd that is always pessimistic so that if we lose they can say "I told you so". If we win, they will celebrate with us. Same old story.
-
Wait a minute. You just said that we ONLY have 6 guys that score consistanly. How any teams have 6 consistant scorers? We lead the entire league in scoring and we have the #1 and #2 D-men in scoring. Sorry but scoring is not a problem.
-
For Christ's sake people. We lost because we didn't score enough. The team that score less than 3 goals in an NHL game wins less than 10% of the time. It wasn't Dom's fault that we didn't score enough. Agreed, he didn't have a very good game but if we score another goal, it never gets to OT and we win in regulation. Lay off Dom, he had a bad game but it wasn't his fault that we lost.
