My guess is that the Wings trade somebody that other teams might actually want for prospects. Candidates IMO are: Smith Lashof Abby We could live without these guys and other teams may be interested. Face it, nobody is going to trade for Sammy, Cleary, Tootoo, Eaves, so to get out of this jam, we are going to have to lose somebody that we'd like to keep. But it is obvious that we NEED Nyquist in Detroit.

Signed Cleary re-signs with Detroit, 1 year, $1.75m deal

Wow! I really expected an LGW meltdown but many of the posts were actually positive. How can you hate a guy that takes a big paycut and a reduced term just so he can stay on the Wings. I think even the Cleary haters (or most of them) have to respect him for this. OK. Maybe not. I'm glad he's back as long as it doesn't affect Nyquist, Tartar or DeKeyser.... -
The haters are going to have a field day with this. The way I read it is that he said that he is not JUST a goal scorer but a hockey player. Franzen's biggest drawback is his lack of confidence. Sure, he floats alot. That is because he is by his nature, lacking in confidence. There were articles back in '08 that said that he was very shy and didn't like the limelight. He got over this in '08 but seems to have regressed. Hopefully Alfie will help him with this. That post was useless and a waste of time. 30 seconds of my life that I can never get back. Thanks

Who do we Unload, reload on before the season starts?

For me, the only totally untouchables are Z, Pav, and Tootoo, the latter being personal preference and purely personal opinion. Uh, seriosuly? -
Tweaking the rule book will not help? huh? You don't think that slowing down the game will reduce concussions? As far as Lindros and Lafontaine, I never said that slowing down the game would eliminate ALL concussions. I don't think anybody believes that. If such a helmet exists, why aren't the players wearing them? My guess is that they either don't exist or the players don't like them. If it was as simple as wearing a different helmet, they would already be doing that. Middle school science tells us the E=mv^2. The energy from a collision is a function of velocity squared. Changing the velocity of an impact has a large effect on the energy expended.

The increase in concussions is the result of several different factors. When the league returned from the 2005 lockout, they made several rule changes to make the game more entertaining and some of them resulted in more collisions and more violent collisions. They need to roll back some of those rules: 1. Two line passes were allowed. This creates more speed through the neutral zone. 2. The trapezoid rule was added that keep the goalies from playing pucks in the corner which results in opposing players racing into the corner for the puck. 3. There was a crack-down on interference. You can no longer hold-up a player racing to the goal. If the league want to reduce the number of concussions and injuries in general, they need to change these rule back. Trying to enforce rules against hits to the head as we have seen doesn't work. The rule is to subjective. LOL. Try skating up and down the ice wearing a NASCAR Hemet.

I think that I read that Kenny pulled the offer off the table. Like it or not, Kenny's priority is trying to get Cleary back and that will require dumping salary. No way can he get Cleary AND Brunner back. The only way Brunner comes back is if Cleary doesn't AND Brunner comes crawling back. He would have to fire his agent first though because no agent would come crawiling back. All of these things happening simultaneously are extreamly unlikely.

I see people are comparing Smith to DeKeyser. They are totally different types of players. DD is a defensive stay at home defenseman. Smith is an offensive defenseman. He jumps up into the play alot and this on occasion has caught him out of position. We need both types of D men. Unfortunately, it is a lot harder to be an offensive D man. Smith will be fine. It just takes some experience.

Brunner lost his chance with the Wings when they signed Weiss and Alfie. They no longer have the cap space. And $4M? Forget it. They will have to shed cap space just to sign Anderson and Nyquist. Brunner and Cleary both blew their chances, now they will end up signing with non-playoff teams. Brunner was a gamble anyway. He's not tough and not good defensively. Best case, he would need to improve his game considerably and who knows if he could last and entire season. Move on.

I'm not sure what you were watching but the Wings lost in Overtime in game 7 on a shot that deflected off of Kronwall's skate. They lost game six on a horrible penalty shot call against them. They could easily have won either game and eliminated the hawks. Didn't have a chance? WTF? The same year that Hossa took a paycut, Kenny signed Stuart (a UFA) to a 4 year contract. Overeaction? No, you are making stuff up to justify your point. One more time. Sammy claims that he is injured and therefore can't be bought out. Why do people keep saying to buy him out? Pay attention people
-
Acording to Capgeek, Cleary made $3M last year. You want him to take a 50% pay cut. Did you watch the playoffs this year? He was really good. Rage away

Excellent post. Somebody other than Kenny is using some loigic...

Report: Red Wings out on Lecavalier - signs with Philly 5@4.5 per
chrisdetroit replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Jesus, everybody is throwing around invalid comparisons. $3M is alot less than $5M and Sammy was signed for 2 years not 5. As good as Zetterburg. That's ridiculous. Get a grip people. -
Jonathan Ericsson - should we consider trading him?
chrisdetroit replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
WTF? Trade our #2 D-Man because??? That ALWAYS happens on the forum. I remember when they gave Kronwall $3M per year. Fortunately Kenny doesn't read this forum. -
Letang is a very good offensive defenseman but I wouldn't make that kind of commitment for him. It's obvious that he wants out of Pittsburgh
-
No way he signs for less than $3 M per year. My guess is $3-3.5 per year for 3 years.

Dreger: Filppula looking for $5.5m/season over at least 7 years

Ok GM wanna bees, it's that time of the year. No, we are not going to get a top six FA forward that is big and tough because there are none available. Cleary will be re-signed. Flip will go. Bert will stay, Cola will be bought out. Sammy will not be bought out because he will claim to be injured. We will trade for a mediocre player and that will be it. I'm not saying this as a Holland critic, I am saying that that is realitically what will happen. There are no superstars available and the really good trades are to expensive. Remeber the trade deadline - Iginla, Jagr, Morrow. None of them worked out. Jagr got to the finals but didn't score a single goal in the playoffs. And don't forget Nash last year. Holland is alot smarter than most fans. -
I don't understand how people can be so down on Sammy. He was out all season with injuries. He played what 2 games? But that means that he is useless? As far as Hudler, people may not like him but he has averaged 17 goals a game throughout his career. He had 20 4 of the past 5 years and 10 in 42 games this year. He's not a Rocket Richard candidate but he's certainly not useless.
-
14 goals in 41 games this year which equates to 28 goals for a season. Only Pavel had more goals and he played more games. I get that he "floats" sometimes but no way any GM would buy out Franzen. Try and be logical people.

GDT WCSF Game 4 GDT- Blackhawks 0 @ Red Wings 2 - (DET leads series 3-1)

Crawford is going to let his team down tonight. -
gdt WCSF Game 3 GDT - Blackhawks 1 @ Red Wings 3 - (DET leads series 2-1)
chrisdetroit replied to FlashyG's topic in General
Can the Hawks win the next 3 straight games? Possible but not very likely. If you agree with that premise, then the only way for the Hawks to win the series is if it goes to a game 7. They have to win 3 of the last 4 games to advance. -

Why did you have to bring up Sid. The discussion was about Val. Does everything have to be about Sid? If Sid is "the greatest player in the world" why has he never even been a finalist for the Selke? You would think that the "greatest player in the world" would also win the Selke every year. DATS is the greatest. -
It's "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey Just a small town girl Living in a lonely world She took the midnight train goin' anywhere Just a city boy Born and raised in South Detroit He took the midnight train goin' anywhere A singer in a smokey room The smell of wine and cheap perfume For a smile they can share the night It goes on and on and on and on

Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs
chrisdetroit replied to RedWingsRox's topic in General
Guys missing from last years team: Lidstrom Holstrom Stuart Hudler Bertuzzi Helm that's 6 regulars out 18 regular skaters - fully 1/3 of the team. Veteran guys that they brought in to help Coliaccavo Sammuelson Tootoo 2 of the 3 have missed almost the entire season. Rookies that are filling in: Lashof Smith Kindl (partial season experience) Andersson Nyquist/Kindl Based on this, just to make the playoffs have been a struggle. I am glad we didn't mortgage our future. One or two more expensive free agents were not going to replace the 1/3 of the team that we lost. -

You are wrong. At the mid point of the season last year they were #1 in the entire league. But that fact doesn't fit your story. Carry on...
