It's probably because I view sexuality as being something that's more than a consumptive good like food or drinks. I see the usefulness of food and drinks: I don't for the former. Let the kids do the ice-chip clearing. Besides, I doubt we'll see Lundy hacking at a thirteen year old anytime soon.
-
Basically, that's how it would go. You're right though, no one realizes how differently they'd act if it were only a couple drunk guys. That it's not though just makes it "acceptable" and "a part of watching a game". Some people really are blind homers about hockey teams or players, but when it comes to stuff like this, they're just blind period.

I wonder if there are any real, honest Lang haters around much? Most of the Lang stuff is more of a running joke that I've seen (thankfully), though a bit tongue-in-cheek. I definitely hope Bob steps it up and gives us a reason to say "he's hard-working and he rocks."

I dig getting in on clapping, the wave, and a bunch of other fan participation things, but I probably wouldn't boo just because everyone else is doing it. When you don't know why you're doing something, except because your neighbor is too, that's not much of a reason.
-
Yeah, I don't think it's "world peace" level here, so thankfully, aside from the sheep-like nature of people to follow other people's stupidity... there's nothing generally harmful in a bunch of people sitting in an arena, booing without even knowing why. Some might have an idea, but a lot of people out there probably haven't a clue why if you asked 'em. But again, I don't think there's "no point" to voicing my dispute with open social idiocy. It would be quite foolish if I expected the whole of Joe Louis to turn around and say, "You know, we don't even know why we're doing this! You're right! Sorry, Feds." But the thing there? People dispute things despite whether or not they have the power to change it, simply on grounds of principle alone. I wouldn't spend hours showing people what I think, but a few minutes on some internet hockey board ain't too much of a waste, though you're right, booing a hockey player is pretty trivial. However, it's probably because it's the matter beyond #91 that's connected to this that I post. Really, Feds isn't the point here. It's the brainlessness of fans that bugs the hell out of me most. And I think everyone dislikes it when that starts running rampant.
-
I get what you meant. He was loved then, but he also got a lot of scrutiny and ridicule for stuff too: so yeah, you have no contradiction. Also, I cannot emphasize this enough: Booing is not "entertaining" (unless you're supremely simple, like harold said earlier), it is not "fun" (unless you're booing Tootoo, you know, someone who deserves his bad reputation), and it is not at all intelligent unless there is actually a good reason for the booing in the first place. Yes, you do need a good reason to do something, believe it or not. Feds having frustrating antics in his contract years is not enough justification either.

The world is unjust, simply put.

Happy b-day Marcus! Your birthday will now be remembered in fame, or infamy for years to go.
-
No. It doesn't. Why should I? If it's something that's wrong, why should it be bad to take issue with it? I've never been the type of person to "roll over" when I see something that's questionable and stupid, because it's not "a bother" for me to stick up for the truth--and neither is it some duty here, because let's face it, this is hockey. This is open stupidity on the part of fans though, which is why I don't believe in turning my head away. If it's dumb, it deserves to be critiqued, like all things. Because it's just like HockeytownRN said: "If I saw ONE good reason why people should boo, I'd be done with this conversation but I haven't seen one yet."

Flip-check replied to wilka91's topic in General
That's the rumor, but I don't believe it. His stats over his whole career really aren't super impressive, minus the '93-'94 season, but I think he could return to a good form with the Wings. Even at age 37. I wouldn't take him unless it were for a discount though. And with Dats' massive contract he got, we still have to juggle the contracts of Z in a year or two along with other guys. -
I think everyone knows this. Just because they can't -stop- it however, doesn't mean they will cease to find it objectionable. How many times do we hear people say, "Yeah, your boss is an *******, but you know... stupid people are out there, just get over it. No, they make a fuss about it, because it's not right. The same really applies here: there are an arena-full of Red Wing fans who act like assholes, every single game Columbus comes to town. And that's a lot of assholes.

I think he's still got the wheels for goal-scoring. Truly, I don't know about his surroundings in Anaheim or Columbus, but I take with the reason that his success hinged on the quality cast he had in Detroit. It's very different now, but I think he'd still be good here. Bert + Sergei + Hudler? Or any equivalent combo? Yeah, sounds good. At the same time, I'm not sure about bringing back old Wings like Feds or Shanny--as much as I love 'em--simply because they may not have many years left, period. But I'd probably be inclined to take Shanahan quicker than ol' #91 for the all-around play though. -
This is my, and probably a few others' thing with it: What's even the purpose? It's a hockey game. We came to watch guys perform athletically and play their hearts out in a designed contest. Are we there to dress up a couple hot girls and send them skating out onto the ice for "fan teaser" time? A little eye candy? Some for you, some for the kids? It's hockey. We've already got enough girls in skimpy outfits trotting around out there and showing themselves off, we can afford not going the way of the NBA or NFL.
-
This enters my mind about it, too. It definitely sobers that initial, "let's take the Avs" enthusiasm.

I'm not at all being mean, but I find it hilarious whenever people consistently think they can drop a nickel and a dime and receive a hundred bucks back. "Oh, yeah, let's shell out Jason Williams and a pick for Fors, that'll do it," or "Tkatchuk? Guerin? Third rounder, baby. Maybe Lilja too." It's like, come on. Feds may be far from his former self, but even that wouldn't sell so easily. -
Man, it would be incredible if this came down to the photo finish. But like it was mentioned, the Oilers... are Calgary's ticket into the playoffs. If the Oilers play a freak, gods-ordained game to deliver holy wrath on the Flames and make them suffer, I'd be searching all over the internet to find a feed for Sunday's Avs vs. Calgary match-up. What an incredible finish to the season that'd be!

He always looks so stone-cold serious, I know! I can't imagine being so purse-lipped, but yeah. He made it into my av simply for that fact. And even then, it's a barely perceptible little upturn of the mouth as it is. EDIT: Also, no trading Rex. Ever. That little guy is going to do wonders for us, you just watch! And he will make that goal-scoring face until the day he dies.... or finally meets a lady he "really likes"

I agree, it's very retarded. I didn't like this quote from the NHL though: "We were made aware of the situation right after the game in question," NHL executive vice president Colin Campbell told TSN. "We investigated it, talked with the officials and both teams and we determined there were no grounds to pursue it any further. It's a closed matter as far as we are concerned. We don't have to respond to what's in today's newspapers because we've already responded to it." I guess it's the last line though. "We don't have to respond to ..." -- well, okay, fine, but if you were so sure you handled it fairly then why are you so defensive? I haven't read much about it myself though. Yeah, that pesky ice surface decided it didn't want none of that squeegee goodness and launched it back! Four feet loogies from frozen water ain't bad, right?

The Wings. Calgary didn't have a flop to Edmonton last year. I was kinda loose with my use of "they" though, sorry about that!
-
That's what I hope for, but I keep doubting them in my head. I tick off the Edmonton flop last year, and their weird losses to bad teams this year, with the fight that Calgary takes to them, and only the Edmonton thing can be irrelevant. Their record with Calgary and consistency of dropping games and dropping their effort? They bug me. I'd be very happy if they played Calgary and beat them in a series - in fact, I'd feel much more confident in their playoff hopes -then- than if they beat the Avs or Wild and moved on to the next round. Why? We all know why. They'd have proved their capability to rise to a challenge and remove the tack in their side. But we don't know if they will do that.

Unusual amount of Playoff tickets still remain
Flip-check replied to Mighty Wings's topic in General
I agree with about everything you said there. The ticket prices are ridiculous--they're also over the top for regular season, as it is. I mean, the best seats to watch a game in the Joe? It's from the first five rows of the Upper Bowl, straight down to the first in the Lower. And that's $76 a pop, base minimum. That's $140+ for the price of admission alone between you if you're going with a friend, or taking a date (hey, if they like hockey, it might be worth it , but..) Sorry, but I don't think so. I love the team, I love being at games, but I've got other things to spend that money on. Halve it, and it might start sounding sane. -
I opted to drink myself blind at one of the pubs down the way. Hell with Joe Louis! No, we were there. It was a slow game... but it was pretty fun to be at regardless. There was one thing that bugged the hell out of me though: Booing Feds. It's like, wake the f*** up, he's been gone for 3+ years, and he isn't deserving of getting booed every single time he touches the puck, for the whole duration of the possession no less. Get over it, you fools. It just makes the whole arena sound like a bunch of morons, to be honest. Mob mentality at one of its low-points. I would've been happy to see him shove a goal in their faces, if the shut-out were already soured and we for sure had the game in hand. ( So it looks like Lint123 predicted it, so glad to be the destined one! I just noticed his comment after writing all that out) But that rant aside, I've got some pictures from the warm-up that turned out decent... note to self: Make sure to get into a better position next time. I've never brought a camera down before also so it was a first, but I know that GREAT shots can be taken if you're set right and have an eye for them. I couldn't get all of the ideal photos that I wanted, but there will be a next time. These were fair, though, I think: 6:30p - We got there with time to spare, but I swear, in the Joe it goes unnoticed. Time flies. Huds doin' his thang. He may be tiny, but this guy's definitely got the heart of a David amongst Goliaths. Dom. Is like a CAT! =P Since I haven't entered early to point cameras at players before, I didn't realize how awful a place to shoot from behind the Wings' bench is. I missed out on a lot of better front photos that I would have loved to have got. Note: Malts' (?) laughing with Ozzie and Paul MacLean's disembodied, careworn visage on the left. Like I told Rabia after getting home, Lilly and Lang I swear were hanging out at the middle of the ice while everybody did their thing. At least Lillypad had an excuse... obviously he was intimidated by seeing everyone skate -and- shoot out there, but Lang? Yeah, don't overexert yourself chasing that warm-up puck down. I did like this one though. I have NO IDEA what Oz is doing with that catching mitt. ;D Well, there could have been something like that. I like the original copy. Sergei, but I couldn't get a good one of him skating toward the bench. He kept his head down a lot when the chances availed themselves. Ozzie again--obviously he's a good subject for the camera. He doesn't skate fast around the ice, like... This guy. I grabbed him only when he was about to head off, but thank you for the speedy legs, hard hit, and timely GWG! Bob looks ready for an oxygen treatment, as he's the last two or three (with Cheli) off the ice. He didn't take my advice earlier. And last but not least... John Keating. I dearly would have loved to hear a "You suck, John Keating!" (it would have been funny, admit it! ), but I'm not that kind of person and it'd be awkward beside. A sign saying "FIRE MILLEN KEATING" would be great though. That's it! There also are a few more photos in my Flickr photoset... Lilly, Lebs, and others, slapped up in a slideshow. I like the last one in it though. Here: linkage
