I think HoH may have gotten the lead on us, Rabs, in the pre-game GDT bizarrity. Next time though! (And I am still so proud of your storytelling ability and my finding such a stoned look on Lang to use however.) There are two ways to take that picture of Lilly though: 1) He landed an effective punch on Moen's shoulder. OR 2) Lilly's punch landed so hard, that all we could see was Moen's head punched into his own right shoulder. By the ferocity of Lillypad's face, I vote 2. Shifting his spinal cord back will be epic rehab.

With 1:23 remaining in the 1st period Ken Daniels: It looks like there's a commotion in front of the Wings bench.. oh! And at center ic- Mickey: It's a good ol' donnybrook coming on between Forsberg and Lilja! Who'd have thought Andreas Lilja would keep up his tough guy streak? Ken Daniels: And they're going at it. Wait, Mick, aw... and it's over, Lilja's knee-down on the ice again. Mickey: sounding smug It ain't over yet Kenny! Yeah, look right there! the sound of the crowd groaning is heard over the broadcast mics Ken Daniels: He just... Andreas Lilja just headbutted Peter Forsberg in the groin! Forsberg is down! Mickey, what the hell--!?! Mickey, laughing the ol' Mick laugh: That's what we'd call a "fighter's feint" Ken! Forsberg thought he had Lilja all wrapped up and done with, but next thing you know, Andreas jumps up like a jackrabbit and makes Fors pay! Ken Daniels: That sounds like a highly unusual method of deception to gain the upper hand, Mick. Mickey, with a 'what-can-ya-do' tone: Hey, strange times make really bizarre bedfellows that'll cook you burnt breakfast in the morning. But #21 is definitely going to feel that one between periods! Ha, ha!

His first move will be the patented "leg hump and tackle" whereupon from there he'll beat them once they're on the ground. Go get 'em, Pain Train!

Oh to be young again, Marcus. (Kidding, yo! I'm twenty-four) Happy early birthday! I'm hoping for a stellar weekend newsbreaking on him returning for Tuesday's game against Columbus... but I doubt it. It'd be a great way to top off finishing two exams that day with getting to see the Wings and Z though!
-
Yeah, I like that explanation there. This is a good example of how facts don't always illustrate the truth, depending on who's doing the viewing. I know Russians are looked at as soft by folks, but no one'd ever take their team off the ice due to "overwhelming toughness" on the other side. That'd be suicide--suffice to say, ditching the game out of disgust sounds a lot more sensible.

That shot of Vokoun always makes me think of Kevin Spacey in "Se7en". I hope we lambaste these guys tonight and light the lamp up. And it's time for Bert to get a goal! It's also time for Bert to get a bite out of Foppa. He hasn't gotten any and he's hungry as hell.
-
One thing I know for sure, Bert's gonna be doing us some justice out there. Take a good look at him in the corners or behind the net, he simply owns the puck there and hardly expends any effort keeping his man off him while he sets up a power play or 5-on-5. That's just a small thing facet... but with big payoffs, and there will be other big things coming from our big guy, too. Other than that? It's a matter of faith and hope, if you will. Hasek - I hope he doesn't bite it and get injured. I love Oz, but #39 is who I want to see for the next 16+ games. Then Zata - I have faith that he'll find his niche again after all this time. With Dats, I hope he'll pull his weight and be a gunner out there come "the -Real- Season", and sadly, I have more faith that #13 will bring it than, say, Lang suddenly turning his A-game on once the regular season ends. With the theme of hope again though, HOPEFULLY Bobby will make me eat my words with a home-baked Czech pie specially sent by his mom. I want this guy to rub it in my face when all's said and done. And taunt me in Slovak.

!!! Mickey's best moments are definitely his most unusual ones. It's inventive, but assuredly eccentric stuff that pops out of his mouth that can catch a sleeping game-viewer in the midst of their snoreville, with gems such as: -- "Then down he goes like he was shot with an elephant gun!" - Mickey ridicules Pierre Turgeon's embellishment of a minor crosscheck. (May 12, 1998) "The ducks were almost hoisted by their own petard!" - Mickey chides the Mighty Ducks for another turnover in their own end. (Mar. 26, 1998) "He's got those happy feet-dit-dit-dit-dit-dit-he's gone!" - Mickey imitates the sound of Sergei Federov's skates when he dekes an opposing player on the ice. (Mar 2, 1998) "A hockey player without a stick is like a duck without wings!" - Mickey twisting a cliche to describe the Wings essentially playing 5-3 hockey for 1:20 after Steve Yzerman lost his stick. They killed the penalty. (Jan 12, 1998) "He faked Billington right out of his jock strap!" - Mickey laughs as Tomas Holmstrom "undresses" the Colorado goalie. (Dec. 17, 1997) "As Lindros went for coffee, Janssens put the cream in it, did he? The cream and the sugar!" - Mickey lauds Mark Janssens’ skill as a face-off man. (Nov. 2, 1997) -- And that's just the surface of the iceberg that is Mick. Mickey, we love you!

There you go, sir! Our own HR40 will be in attendance at that game, so she of all people'd definitely hope so. I'm worried how fast his top performance will come back after a month off though. I don't think we'd see the Z we know until round 2, unfortunately.
-
Man... just wait until we can play the '07 Ducks against the Broadstreet Bullies on your ps3! That'll be the decisive match-up of the century. But actually, yeah. Also, I wouldn't be surprised with the physical strength, training, and other differences of the modern day if some select fights between the two wouldn't be sure knock-downs. You never know though.
-
It's definitely shown the league who's the best in past years. On a serious note I think Dallas could be a good first round battle for us. When it comes to the big teams in the West... I'm not sure whether facing them early rather than later would be the better option, simply because: will they pick up their momentum -after- a round or two, or will they have it from the get-go? One thing's for sure, I definitely HOPE the Wings have theirs from the beginning. I want '06-'07 to stand out in fan memory!

Remember the scene at the end of Turner and Hooch, where Tom Hanks opens the door and sees the puppy that ransacked the house? This is the same thing, but think DOM.

Good News: Hockey Night In Canada to stay on CBC
Flip-check replied to WingedWheelin06's topic in General
Yeah, this is definitely good news to hear. Me, I've grown up on Hockey Night In Canada too, and I remember late Saturday nights spent at my uncle's house with the family while watching the double-headers set up there. The past few years I haven't kept up with it, but Hockey Night on CBC is something special. It seriously, really truly, is. -
Whoa whoa whoa. Seeing that scrum along the boards and Lilly squaring up in the background at center ice... ...on this day of all days made me... ..heartsick! Not because I saw a long-missed love, but merely because she bore her likeness, and so speared my heart. Man.... "the Pain Train" indeed. Heart pangs. =(

Mac's quote from here is sick: 'The stage for the brawl was set in the 1996 Western Conference playoffs when Lemieux hit Kris Draper into the boards; Draper incurred massive facial injuries and had to have his jaw wired shut. Ten months later, the mood was ripe for vengeance. “It had a lot of build-up,†McCarty told the Calgary Herald, “and it exceeded the build-up. If there were taking odds in Vegas, it was probably a million to one the game could supersede the hype. But it did. It annihilated the hype. It dropped an atomic bomb on it. It just nuked it. You can't argue that. The icing on the cake, what made it so special, is that I scored the overtime goal. That's what ties everything in all together.†'

Yeah, I know. I just spotted the "clean check" part and while it wasn't dirty, it still was a run. I got you though. Also, an lol: I don't even remember if he did, offhand. It'd be so awesome if he did for once! I think Modano did however.

Tootoo skated twenty feet for that hit. The check didn't look bad, but he skated twenty feet--so hello? And yeah, of course you sucker punch people when they're coming at you. Why take the hit, come back, and fight? Surely throwing a punch at somebody from the get go's muuuuuuuuuuch better. Tootoo is definitely a victim... who expects retribution after running a star player? Silly thought, I know!

Trade those tickets in, come see Columbus. It'll be better. You know you want to!
-
It's 7am zomgwtf... =P With today there are exactly thirteen more days left in the Wings regular season schedule. I don't expect him back before the 4/5 Chicago game though, to be honest, if he returns by the first round. And that sucks extremely hard. Howeeeeeeeeever.... if he decides to surprise me and show up at Joe Louis against Columbus earlier that week, I'd be delighted to see him out there! I'll be at that game and it would be a sweet sweet thing if Henrik Zetterberg made his return then. Push him out there, Babs. Screw the doctors!
-
Yeah, timothy1997 already listed the slogans for the past ten years... which all sucked, imo. The only one that came close to not sucking? A Call to Arms, 1995. Paint the Town Red also works the whole 'red' theme in, without being frigging cheesy about it. SLOGAN WRITERS, CIRCA '01-'04--SWITCH CAREERS. =p Like, "Get your red on", please? Please, that's awful. This, I believe, would be an excellent slogan however. Slogans by nature are cheesed out... but this most assuredly beats stuff like "One Team, One Goal" ( <--) and many other bad creations:

3/24 GDT: St. Louis Blues @ Red Wings, 2:00 PM ET
Flip-check replied to puckloo39's topic in General
lol, what? I just am baffled by that one.... -
Shanny likes guys, what can you say? (He doesn't at all, but I think the people who don't read are getting homophobic vibes from the article header. Funny stuff.)
-
They aren't useless at all, but they are a pain for readers signing on after the game. This thread's fine. It's worthy of discussing beyond the gdt.

Hank uncertain about return from back injury..
Flip-check replied to HockeyCrazy3033's topic in General
He sounds that way simply because the back is a touchy thing. There isn't anymore to read into it than that, really. It's ok, don't freak yet. "If I have the same progress I've had the last week, I will be in the playoffs,'' Zetterberg said. "But, you never know with a back. Just a little tweak or something and you're right back to the beginning. So you have to stabilize your stomach and your back and just get everything back together. "I did basically nothing for three weeks, so my body needs to get back into shape, too. It's going to take a while, but if my back still feels good, I will be back for the playoffs.'' So basically, bottom of the line? Ansar Khan's article headline should be: "Zetterberg still feeling out the time-table on his injury." He's not uncertain in a "you know, I think this is gonna keep me out"--it ain't that at all. Alla youz can step back from the panic button.
