The Spartans limped into this tournament. I'm not expecting much. The only positive I see is that BU isn't playing that well either. BC crushed BU 6-2 in the Hockey East semis.

They had a lot of penalty minutes against Vancouver. I'll give you that much. But there was a grand total of 10 minutes in penalties against Calgary, none in the third period. I would hardly call that spending all night in the box.

Calgary plays Nashville tonight. They can do us all a favor with a win in regulation.... Another nail in the Avs coffin and two less points for Nashville in the race for the Central.

The story was originally reported in the NY Post so I have my doubts. The NY Post is right up there with the National Enquirer for reporting quality. Even if it is true, it's likely some sort of practical joke by his new teammates.

The Wings didn't lose the last two games because they got called for more penalties. They lost because they scored a grand total of two goals. They're not going to win many games that way.

There's no way I'd want to own an NHL team. Too much pressure. Too much politics. Look at all the crap Lemieux is going through in Pittsburgh. A minor league hockey team would be cool, though. I wouldn't do it to make money. I'd run it more like a non-profit. Hey, if I can afford a hockey team I can certainly afford to give back to the community. I'd set aside a certain number of lower bowl tickets and tickets on the glass for a low price so everyday fans can get a chance to get those seats, not just corporations and season ticket holders. These would be available via a lottery. Anyone caught scalping these tickets would be banned for life. I'd also own the arena and lease the ice to amateur hockey associations and individuals at a reasonable rate. I'd also set up scholarship and equipment programs for kids that can't afford hockey. This would be a hockey only facilty. No concerts, no circus, no boat and camper shows. That way there'd be lots of ice to go around. I'd also set up a house league that is strictly for fun. No travel hockey. No pressure. 1 practice a week. Games every other week. Everyone plays. So many youth programs are way too serious and I think it burns players out. I notice attendance falls off during the playoffs for a lot of minor league teams. Therefore, season ticket holders get free playoff tickets and all single game tickets are $2. I want my barn full for the playoffs, dammit. The team deserves the support. Don't worry. I'd still make money off concessions and parking. Well, that's my thoughts.

The Wings have 3 left with Columbus, 2 with Chicago, and 1 with St. Louis. Calder could be +15 in those games alone.

OK. I will post something a little more cheerful. Detroit officially won the season series against Nashville with the win last night. They've earned 9 of a possible 12 points in games against Nashvile. 2 games left in the series. Let's hope the trend continues.

Calder was a plus player for Chicago in 2001-02 when he was +8. Other than that he's been a - player every other season. Of course, he's played for some real dogs.

Detroit is 3-10-0 in the second of back to back games. Nashville is 13-2-2. Hopefully they can reverse that trend.

Phoenix, Columbus and Chicago are probably eliminated this week. Washington could hold on for a while. They are 16 out with 12 to play. But given their recent record I'd say they've tossed in the towel. Same with Edmonton. 8 losses in a row. Ouch.
