The kid probably played better than Emery or Gerber.

Bob Probert, Petr Klima, John Chabot, Joe Kocur, Darren Veitch and Darren Eliot. The team was in the Conference Finals for the second time in two seasons and these idiots had to go out drinking the night before game 5 in Edmonton. The team fell apart after the incident and it took the Red Wings almost a decade to make it back on top. I seriously think the team could've contended for a couple of Cups in the early 90s if they had their priorities straight. Kocur redeemed himself during his second stint with the Red Wings but I was happy to see the rest of those idiots go.

Did you see Tootoo pick it up? My guess is some Red Wing fan working at another airport "accidentally" put his luggage on a flight to Detroit. Tootoo is still waiting for it in Nashville.
-
That's the first bad news I've heard this off season. I thought he'd never leave.

1400+ career PIMs as a player. Pretty tough customer.
-
First Hasek runs him out of Buffalo. Now Snow runs him out of NY. Nolan must hate goalies.

The "teammates" idea is a given. Howe played for the Red Wings for 25 seasons. Yzerman 22. That's about 2/3 of the time the Red Wings have been in existence. It would be pretty hard to find a player who didn't play with one of those guys, but still played with the Wings long enough to get their jersey retired.

Quick poll: Biggest Red Wings free agent signing over the past decade? A) Krupp B) Hull C) Cujo D) Hatcher E) Hossa F) Other
-
Yeah, but neither one was a free agent so Chicago couldn't get them. Chicago needed a top 4 defensemen badly and they went out and got the best free agent defensemen available. They did what they had to do.
-
The only two players on that list that are still decent prospects are Fleischmann and Matthias. You can keep the rest of them. P.S. It looks like Avery and Williams are free agents. NY and Chicago don't want them back. You could probably pick them up cheap, though I don't see why anyone would want them.

Can't say I'm surprised. The Griffins had their worst season ever. Glad they kept Paek, though.

Abel had 3 (43, 50, and 52). He didn't join the Wings until 1938 so he just missed out on the 36 and 37 Cups and he got traded to the Blackhawks in 1952-53 so he missed out on the 54 and 55 Cups. Delvecchio also had 3 (52, 54, 55). He didn't join the Wings until 1951. I went back and checked the rosters for the first seven Red Wings Cups and no player won more than 4 with the Wings. Here is a list of the players with 4: Lindsay Howe Kelly Pavelich Pronovost Wilson Skov Sawchuk Lidstrom McCarty Draper Holmstrom Maltby

Generally you see injuries pile up as the teams advance through the playoffs. Not the Wings. They just get better. Healthy scratches FTW.

The NHL failed? There's a cyber survey up on detnews.com asking which series people will watch and here's the curent results... Red Wings 95.8% Pistons 4.2% Cyber Survey Looks like the NBA failed.

Just in time. Umberger and Zetterberg were starting to catch up with him in the goal scoring department.
-
Not that I'm a big Quenneville fan, but this was a team with a ton on injury problems all season and postseason. Yet they still made the playoffs and survived to the second round. If he did that in Chicago or Toronto they'd give him a raise.

I thought ESPN already filled its quota for morons. ESPN is already unwatchable. This will only make it worse.

What's with the signature? Sawchuk, Vernon, Osgood and Hasek are all great goalies. But Cheveldae?!? If you're looking to round out the top five, how about Glenn Hall or Normie Smith. Not the Sieve from Saskatoon.

Gretzky's best playoffs was 17 goals. Lemieux had 16 twice. But Jari Kurri and Reggie Leach hold the record with 19.

McCarty played 2 games, March 28 against St. Louis and April 2 against Chicago. 20 shifts, 12:04 TOI, no points, 1 shot, 2 PIM.
