The original six were the only teams in the NHL from 19942-43 until 1966-67. However all six teams have played in the league since 1932-33 without moving or renaming a franchise. They just played with other teams prior to 1942 and after 1967.

The longest losing streak in franchise history is 9 (12/17/04 through 1/8/05). A couple more losses and this team rewrites the record books. But look on the bright side. They're only 5 games below .500 and there's still a lot of hockey left. Don't write them off yet. -

Big matchup this Thursday and Friday between #2 Miami and #3 MSU. Thursday's game is on Comcast Local so check it out. Nice to see the CCHA represented in the top of the weekly hockey poll. They've taken a back seat to Hockey East and the WCHA the last few years but the conference now has everyone's attention after MSU's national championship run. #1 Michigan #2 Miami #3 MSU

Osgood is streaky. He'll go stretches where he's unbeatable but he has just as many stretches where he turns into Chris "Score Me Four" Osgood.

My daughter was born in Morristown and my wife worked in Madison. We lived in Somerville. We moved back to Michigan to be closer to family but I miss New Jersey all the time.

I think you mean Camden, NJ. Camden is across the river from Philadelphia. Newark is closer to NYC. They're about 2 hours apart. Both are ghetto, though. But other parts of NJ are great. Princeton, Summit, Morristown, Cape May. Lots and lots of great little towns.

95-96 was Osgood's best season. He had nights where he was the best goalie in the league. 39-6-5 record 2.17 gaa .911 svp 5 shutouts He was also great for the first two rounds in the playoffs. His save in game 7 against St. Louis was one of the greatest saves I've ever seen a goalie make. The wheels fell off against Colorado in the conference finals but up until that series his season was golden.

Your average backup goalie probably makes a million a year to sit on the bench and count shots. They might even get into a game once in a while. That sounds like a pretty good job to me.

It's a 6pm start in Calgary. I asked about the oddball start time over at calgarypuck.com and they weren't too sure either. The best theory I've heard so far is that both the Calgary and Vancouver game are on PPV and they didn't want the games to conflict with one another.

I looked at the schedule this morning and saw the Flames and I thought to myself, "Damn, the Flames again?!?" One month into the season and we're playing them for the second time. We've also played the Oil twice, Sharks twice, Ducks twice, and Nucks twice. WTF?!? We've yet to play the Avalanche. We haven't played a single team in the Eastern Conference. We haven't even played 3 teams in our own division. Whoever made this schedule was a moron.

Hey Aflac. Do you intentionally go out and find the worst pictures possible for the opposing goalies? That one you use for Kiprusoff looks like he's wasted and the one you used of Evigni Nabokov in today's GDT makes him look like a big homo (NTTAWWT).

That wasn't blood. It was chocolate syrup with red food coloring. Boston is looking for an attendance boost and is resorting to pro wrestling tactics. . . . . . Seriously. Some guys are just bleeders and a bloody nose ends up looking like an axe murder. That was a mess.

That's the only way he'll make the HHOF. No way does he deserve it as a player.

I've also watched Ellis in GR and agree about his attitude. He's the kind of guy coaches love to have on their team. 25 points would be a miracle, though. I'd be happy with 15.

He was big and had some skill but I never liked him as a player. I felt he was a prima donna and general pain in the ass. I'm glad he never wore the red and white.

They will usually televise some games later in the season. Don't expect anything before Christmas.

Rocky Wirtz has run the team for less than a month but he has contributed more to the future success of the Blackhawks than Bill Wirtz did in 4 decades.

Comcast users will also get several hockey games on Comcast Local and Comcast East Lansing. I get Comcast Local here in GR on channel 23 and we get the Spartans on 10/19, 10/26, 11/15, 11/23, 12/8, and 2/15. A bunch of other games are on FSD. A quick check of the shedule shows that well over half the games are televised. MSU Hockey Schedule

Nice way to start the season. Road wins against Lake Erie and Manitoba. Center Mark Cullen has a goal and 3 assists to lead the team. Jimmy Howard has a 2.00 gaa and a .934 svp. On a different note, Igor Grigorenko must be sulking after not making the Red Wings roster. He has zero points and only 3 shots on goal.

Check the promotions out at griffinshockey.com. Several games this season are designated student nights and anyone with a valid student ID gets lower bowl tickets for $10. The next one is Friday, November 23.

Heh. Looks like I hijacked my own topic with the Grigs comment. This is supposed to be about the early success of the Griffins, not a lazy Russian. Nice OT win by the Griffins. Adam Berkhoel gets the win. Corazzini gets the OT winner.
