The country > club mostly comes from the European players. In the major European sports you see a lot more of the Country A vs Country B on a heck of a lot more consistent basis than you see in North America. You see players say growing up there goal as kids was not to play in the NHL. It was to play for there national team. To most the NHL wasnt even a goal as few knew much about it. Now some of that has changed with the rise of internet and the NHL pushing to enter new European tv markets. Im not saying there have been games threatened, although Im sure every team at some point has had some type of threat, but just that in terms of the security that will be present at the Olympics vs a standard NHL game security the NHL game would be easier to hit. An NHL game might not be the first choice for a terrorist but then again some nutjob thought a small strip of the Boston marathon was a tasty enough target so 20k in an enclosed arena might look good to them. In terms of lax security use the Joe for example. How many octopusses are smuggled in every year? All someone with ill intentions has to do is mix something nasty up and wrap it in octopus. Players are just as likely to get blown up by a madman playing an NHL game as they are during the Olympics. In fact Id venture to say that if someone wanted to blow up an arena a run of the NHL game would be a far easier target than the Olympics with its heavy security.

Ya no cap and roster restriction are why you saw players like Helm and Abs feature in the playoffs quite a bit long before they were regulars on the roster during the season.

Uhh what are you smoking? Gus looked pretty bad last night especially compared to Howards play since the turn of the year. In 8 games hes played since New Years Howards GAA is 2.0. He cant be doing much more to help this team win right now. If the Wings were scoring 3+ goals a game in that time you could blame Howard but they average under 2 in that same time period. Remember this isnt 9-0 Gus from the beginning of the year that you put in because "hes getting wins". In his past 8 games hes only 4-4 with a GAA around 3.25 and most of those games were before the Wings offence was completely decimated with injury. Gus is down from his hot streak at the beginning of the year and is back more to how hes played over his career. If the Wings are relying on him to get them to the postseason then they are in bigger trouble than they are now with injuries. Babs has said it publicly that this team only goes as far as Jimmy takes them and hes correct in that. As for this being a turning point? It could be. Only if the WIngs can somehow turn this into a good run before the Olympics. Theyve had chances for turning points already this year but have failed to bring them to anything.

Big E coming back is nice and will help the blue-line but it doesn't help the teams #1 issue and that's putting the puck in the net. Dont know how Monster will be after being out a while. Wouldnt be surprised to see something like 4-0 or 5-1 Hawks.

Ill disagree with that 100% right there. I dont think hes even decent. Repeats the same thing over and over and doesnt have the voice to be an announcer. It was painfull last night listening to Ozzie. I even mentioned it during the game in this thread. He really needs to stick to the between periods analysis where he says his peace and then we don't hear him for another 45 minutes. I think hes quite a bit better in that position.
