The guy is 20 games into his contract lets give him some time. Hes going to be here a while so don't sour to quickly. Lets not forget before coming into Detroit he only played in 17 games the previous year. Could have still been some rust as well as learning a new team. He was real bad at the start but since coming back from injury hes looked better each game. The points will come. More than likely when he can get away from having Cleary and Sammy on his wings. The guy has proven he can score and he will. Lets not forget anyone not named Zetterberg, Datsyuk, and Alfredsson on this team have been struggling to score this year as well.

Ya in general I wouldn't venture much outside the hotel area after dark. Your more likely to get mugged or stabbed than find anything interesting. Sure as hell don't want to find yourself getting lost.

Yes but potential means nothing until you've proven you can do it at the NHL level. None of those players are ready enough to come in and produce what would be lost with Alfie. Look at Tatar. All the potential in the world. He was supposed to come in and challenge for the Calder trophy. Yet this season he has really struggled to come in and score. I get that everyone is excited about some of the prospects but they are still just prospects not proven players. They need to come in and not be expected to carry the team right away. Alfie isnt holding them back. Its players like Sammy and Cleary that are true roster blocks. If Alfie can play as well at 41 as he is at 40 he is an asset to bring back and nowhere near a bad contract as some are mentioning in this thread. Thinking that Mantha is going to come in and instantly get 2nd line minutes with Babcock and Ken Holland is just lunacy.

Why does it seem like everyone is so eager to get rid of Alfie like he is a bad contract or something? The guy has come in and done great. Outside of Datsyuk and Hank he has the next best PPG on the team.

Greektown would be best to base out of. People mover stops there and you got food and gambling after win. We park there every game.

Babs puts Cleary up there to try and jump-start him, why not Weiss. Sure he may be out of position but do it for a game or two. Its not gonna hurt.

He looked good tonight despite being stuck with the likes of Sammy and Cleary. I make fun of Cleary a lot for being so easily knocked over and losing the puck but tonight the guy actually fell over while in possession of the puck with nobody even close to him after crossing Buffalos blueline. I swear he found a way to trip over the blueline. That turnover led directly to a 3 on 2 which I believe was the sequence that Lashoff's kick save slide was the only thing that kept the puck out of the net. Not 100% sure it was that one but Buffalo did get a quality chance. Moral of the story is I think Weiss is going to burst out soon if he can get some consistent linemates and Cleary needs to be tar and feathered.

Im thinking if Detroit had played anyone but Ottawa then Alfie would have been in. For how bad he played the first game against them I am thinking they didnt aant more stress added for his first game back after injury. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2

Holland is getting the credit for his early success by still having his job. Any other gm would have lost theres by letting this team stale like he has done. And you can say he gets the credit for drafting but until those players are up actually producing in the league there is nothing to give credit for. I guess you count a couple pushes and maybe a rabbit punch to a guys chest as physical play. Other than that Sammy brings no impact full physical play.

Just because Abby was forced to play on the top 2 lines before doesn't make him viable for all 4. He is not a good option on the top 2. If losing Abby meant getting Gus in full time I would do it in a heartbeat. The Wings can replace him a heck of a lot easier than they can Nyquist.

I disagree wholeheartedly. At the time it was a decision based on panic. Holland missed out on Suter and Parise and just grabbed whatever scrap he could. Then Sammy was coming off a year that he couldn't stay healthy and had health concerns still when signed. What happens? He plays only 4 games all year due to multiple injuries and then uses those injuries to block a buyout. Nothing about the the Sammy acquisition could be considered good. Both of Hollands panic signings that off-season (TooToo and Sammy) have no role with this team. Bad management there.

The most frustrating thing is that if Holland really wanted to get Gus on the roster earlier he could have. Your telling me that out of 29 other NHL teams they wouldn't take a player for a 7th round draft pick some 3 years down the line? I dont care who the player is someone would accept a deal like that. Instead we got the same ol "kicking the tires on trades" rhetoric all year
