Weiss moves a lot better than Vinny. I think that was the big thing. I dont think even Brunner knew what he was worth. His is just an odd situation.

I was doubtfull of Holland going in today based on his last 5 years but hes done pretty good. Not a homerun day so far but he has made the team better. Now just get Brunner under contract and trade Sammy to SIberia or something.

There will be more than 2.3 million. The wings have trade a couple forwards after today's signings. Trade for picks = cap space

4.9 is a steal in a weak FA class when teams want to overspend.

signed Wings sign Alfredsson to 1-year, $3.5m deal (+$2m bonuses)

The best thing about a short term fix is its short term. Get him for a season and hope for better FA's next year. If it works out then good its better than having they money sit. -

Wonder how much moving to the East drew him in. I doubt he would have come to a western team. -
I disagree with saying he has an attitude problem. Carlyle gave him the shaft when he came into the team. The guy could have easily started issues in the media during the season and caused all kinds of disruptions. Instead he acted like a professional and competed hard despite being dropped to the bottom 6 and playing few minutes. Its only after his ties with the team were severed that he went after Carlyle and in my opinion its 100% justified with how he was treated. If the Wings are interested in him Id rather they claim him off waivers. His price in open FA will probably cost more especially if the "top" forwards this year go quick and teams panic and start bidding wars.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/mikhail-grabovski-takes-bite-randy-carlyle-blast-lack-232028600.html I want him just because hes calling out Carlyle for the s*** coach that he is.

Seguin, Eriksson swapped in 7-player deal between Bruins and Stars
GoalieManPat replied to ogreslayer's topic in General
Maybe he could be an All Star if he continues to develop and gets his head on straight off the ice. The Bruins are getting a player thats an All Star right now. Eriksson has put up 63,71,73, and 71 points the last 4 full NHL seasons while playing on a team with a lot less skill than Seguin has. To put it simple he is the best player in this deal. I hate seeing Eriksson going to Boston as he has killed the Wings over the years. -
Fine by me. Neidermeyer was a big ****** as well.

I see this as either two things. 1. Alfie is just using these two teams to leverage a better contract from Ottawa 2. Holland doesnt want to open up his pocket book for the bigger and younger options so hes trying to grab another cheap old timer before others can get in to drive the price up.

Its not an overreaction to say Holland hasn't been living up to his reputation the last 5 seasons. The guy has without a doubt let the roster get stale and the teams declining results prove that. It started with him hanging on to Draper and Maltby way to long and now hes doing the same with Bert and Cleary. He hasn't made a solid free agent signing since Rafalski and a good trade since Stuart. He seems to try and be doing just enough to stay in the playoff hunt but not enough to be a true contender. Yes they played Chicago hard but lets be realistic. Chicago played probably there worst 4 games of the postseason at the start of that series. The fact that Chicago was then able to kick it in gear and win three straight elimination games shows how big of a divide there is between the two. You cant say this team will be better next year just because of the young kids coming up and players getting back from injury. You cant be sure how Tatar, Nyquist, and Anderson fair through a full NHL season. They could be solid but they are just as likely to struggle as rookies. Sure Dekeyser looked real solid before his injury but he struggled quite a bit in the AHL finals once coming back. And theres no guarantee Helm ever gets back to the level he was playing at before all his injuries. Hes barely played in a year and a half and who really knows if this mystery back injury ever will heal right. The teams biggest need is a 2C and a true scoring winger. I dont see Holland doing anything to fix it this season. In fact I wouldnt be surprised to see Brunner leave with a better offer elsewhere and then Holland panics and resigns Cleary for 3 years. I see this being just as likely and him signing any impact player.

Report: Red Wings out on Lecavalier - signs with Philly 5@4.5 per
GoalieManPat replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
The thing with the current NHL is that to get that top FA you need to overpay a bit. Hollands continual reluctance too leads to what happens last year where you just end up with table scraps (Sammy and Tootoo) and the ironic thing with those two is he ended up overpaying them. Do you overpay for every free agent? No. But when your team has a glaring need and nobody to fill it yes you might have to overpay. 5/5 may sound like a lot now but come the end of the contract the cap will be back up another 10-12 million at-least. Every player that the Wings seem to have interest in this season seems to have the tag line "but the Wings dont want to match his asking price" attached to it. This organization is no longer the Wings of 96-08 where players were willing to take a discount just to come play in Detroit. With the parity in the league that advantage is now gone. You want a top FA you have to pay them like a top FA. -
fixed. No telling what a year off does to him.
-
Tie Domi still looks like a badass lol
-
6'1 190lb forward. All I see about the Swede
-
Im not sure on how well his ability to fight is. I just youtubed him and of the first 5 fights I saw he pretty much got pummeled in all of them.
-
Just think. They gave up nothing to get this extra pick so its a free gamble.
-
I can give you a good reason why to take him now. Another team shows interest in taking him before you pick again. CS means nothing when your own scouts think hes better. If CS meant everything then Dats and Hank would have been 1st rounders.
-
No way for you to know that until 5 years from now.
-
So Im thinking they liked him and were hoping he would slide but caught wind someone might grab him.
-
Except hes not a good skater
-
Anyone else afraid this guy announcing everything is about to keel over on stage?
-
True. Still just seems rare for one not be to gone as not every team is goin to have depth
