It's smart positioning. If he goes into the corner first, he gets hit, maybe coughs the puck up, and the forechecker goes unimpeded to the goal. Defenders never want to be pinned on the boards either. So he decides to not get into a vulnerable situation and just play smart defense on the forechecker.

What, no one else pounds a sixer of cheap beer then drops a bag full of raw seafood down their pants on Thursdays? Anyone? Bueller? You don't even want to know what my Friday nights are like...
-
Sounds like a normal Thursday night for me...

How exactly are you going to get those into the building? I've always wondered that. Doesn't it stink? Are you bringing a ton of wetnaps too? What are the mechanics involved here?
-
I'm in San Diego and our coverage on VS was blacked out too. So, if the Wings meet the Ducks in the conference finals, will they still be blacked out?
-
You can't take the risk of waiting for Kronwall to get back into playing shape. Not unless you're up in the series 3-0. Why play someone who's not in game shape, who wasn't exactly reliable to begin with, and at the expense of others who have showed they know what it takes to win games in the playoffs?

Someone should create a drinking game for when we're forced to watch these guys on Center Ice. Drink 1 every they complain the other team gets away with murder Drink 1 every time Terry calls Pete "Bubba" Drink 1 every time Pete asks a stupid question to set up Terry's promo

Of all the people that choose to not wear a face shield, Holmstrom amazes me the most since he stands in front of all those cannon shots from the point. I hope he gets well soon, we need him.
-
I thought the refs made a couple of iffy calls there in the OT. But over-all it was a pretty well called game.

It's interesting to see what's going on with the plus/minus leaders in the league. Franzen is tied for first at +7. Franzen? Look at the other Wings on the list. Chelios +5, then a bunch of others at +3 including Lang. Not really the players I would have predicted.
-
When does the next round start? I know Van/Dal has to be played today and the Wings/Flames had game 7 scheduled on Tuesday. Does that mean the next round starts Thursday-ish?
-
I'm afraid that if it was just a cut, not matter how deep, he'd be out there. Are you kidding? Overtime? He'd be out there if it was just a cut, precautions be damned.

Per TSN: McLennan suspended 5 games, Lebda out for Game 6

As I heard someone else mention somewhere, fighting at that point only helps the Flames. Iit gives them something to build on and it makes them feel better about themselves. It doesn't really do much for Detroit to be getting into fights. So Bertuzzi did the smart thing and didn't give Phaneuf any sort of chance to get things rolling and just sat his ass down. -

I guess that means it's up to the Wings to get even with Langkow? I know Lebda is the protege of Chelios... it'll be interesting to see if the old man takes care of business. -
TSN reporting Lebda has suffered concussion

Langkow is trash. In my opinion it's worse than what Bert did - it's just that the outcome is different. -

Wait, the game was a blowout, and there's no need for anyone to injure anyone else? I like your logic. I really do. I wish your team had that logic too. I think Lebda's hit was a hip check. Certainly wasn't malicious. -
Are you seriously asking that question? He battles, never gives up on the play, plays smart... you go into the corner with him and he's not going to wait patiently for you to make a move. He's gritty... he doesn't start much anymore but he won't take anything either. He's a great mentor to Lebda. He never quits.
-
Another thing you'll notice is that the check hit Phaneuf's shoulder not his head. I don't care for the 'clean but someone got their head smashed in' check and I'm glad this wasn't one of those. Even so, it looks like Phaneuf's brain got sloshed around a bit whether from the initial hit or from the boards. I hope he's OK and comes back to play so we can beat you guys without excuses
-
Isn't someone on the Flames supposed to screaming their heads off at Phaneuf that he has a man on?
-
Hey, if you guys want to take some bad penalties in retaliation to a clean check, that's fine with me. I just hope our power play is good enough to make you pay.
-
Good Lord, it's about time.
-
We'll get a call here eventually, right? Right? Perhaps playing with a broken stick?
-
Cleary's had a hell of a game. It was a clean hit... and I hope Phaneuf is OK.
-
I think you're misreading what I'm saying. I don't think anyone is at fault for a hit like that - except for the guy with his head down. He should be more aware. But if he's not and you can line him up for a clean check that could possibly injure him, I say you should have the decency to let up just ever so slightly. I think you can lay just as effective of a hit on him without smashing his head. I'll say it again: just because it's legal doesn't mean it's right.
