  1. Title says it all. Looks like he wont have to return after a set amount of games either, like Jarnkrok. EDIT: Source is @DRWProspects on twitter, as well as Malik at kuklaskorner
  2. For anyone who was wondering about Jarnkrok coming over to play in NA since his SEL season has ended, he stated he will be coming to Detroit for 5-6 days to get to know the organization. He will not play for GR or DET, rather, he is now focussing on making the Swedish World Championships team. as per @DRWProspects feed on twitter edit: spelling

So what's the over/under on the amount of shifts Nyquist gets on Pavel's line before Babs replaces him with Cleary?

    Gus Nyquist...

...is your up to date AHL scoring leader, with 52 points in 51 games. Just thought some might like to know that. Apologies if it's been discussed elsewhere, i could not find it. http://theahl.com/stats/statdisplay.php?type=top_scorers&season_id=40&tournament_id=0&division_id=-1

    Ryan Whitney

Looks like Whitney has fallen out of favor with the Oil. Going to be a healthy scratch for the 3rd time in the last 5 games. "I'm very frustrated, I want to play," Whitney said. "We got outshot 40-13 and I'm not playing so I think that kind of shows where their thought on me is." Wonder if he could be heading out of Edmonton soon. $4 Million cap hit, last year of his contract. 6'3, 210lbs PP QB.

Tomas Tatar Is Jiri Hudler 2.0

Our 2011 Draft is looking amazing at this point, especially on D. Sproul is looking like the best defenseman in the entire CHL(wonder where he'd be if not for a broken arm at the start of the season). Ouellette looks like an extremely gifted player on both ends of the ice. Backman and Marchenko are both looking like late round steals, and even Nedomlel is rounding into a nice, more physical, Lilja type defenseman. Jurco could end up being a stud, Quine has looked unstoppable since being traded to Belleville, and if Tvrdon could get healthy, he might be a force as well. Very promising bunch.

    Landon Ferraro or Sheahan?

I wonder if KH and co. have considered calling Landon or Riley up to help our ridiculously awful Penalty Kill. Ferraro can skate and check like Helm, plus he's having a really nice rebound year in GR. Sheahan is a big strong kid who excels defensively. I think either/or could give our rotten PK a real shot in the arm.
  9. It is, and has been the way management has handled it's prospects, weather you believe it or not. Players like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kronwall, Filppula, Howard, Smith, etc... have all been held back and allowed to develop before reaching the NHL. The difference now is, our team is no where near as deep as it was then, and we could actually use these players in our lineup now. We get that you like 6'4 - 235lbs NA power forwards who score 35+ goals a year; but have a look at NHL team depth charts, that type of player doesn't grow on trees. It would also be nice to get the chance to draft and develop such a player, unfortunately, once it comes time for the wings to select a player in the draft, those players are already long gone.
  10. Some folks on these forums, who are oblivious to the fact that the Wings sytem is incredibly talent rich, see three relatively unknown names and automatically assume they can't compete in today's NHL. People should not let the manner in which the Wings handle their prospects cloud their vision regarding how talented they truly are. Fact is, Players like Nyquist, Tatar, Anderson, Sheahan and even Ferraro would likely be playing on other NHL clubs right now. A third line of Tatar - Jarnkrok - Nyquist would be intriguing if not for their lack of size/NHL experience. Though I bet they'd outskill most third lines in the NHL today, especially ours.
  11. The more i read your posts, the more I believe you have no clue what you're talking about. Schultz in the minors? You're talking about Justin Schultz right? The guy who scored a goal and played well over 20 minutes for the Oilers last night? ... Regarding Jarnkrok, I bet he has the skill and ability to play for the Wings as soon as next year, but he is waiver exempt till (i believe) the 2015-2016 season. Couple that with the fact that KH will have to clear roster space for Nyquist, Tatar, and Anderson next year, and Sheahan and Ferraro the next (or risk losing them all on waivers), there's just no way he makes the Red Wings next year. IMO anyways.

    Landon Ferraro or Sheahan?

I'd love to have them both up as well, but realistically, they have to comply with the 23 man roster. Our roster as it stands: Mule - Z - Brunner Flip - Pav - Tatar Bert - Abs - Cleary Tootoo - Emmerton - Miller Kronner - Ericsson Quincy - Lashoff Huskins - White Howard Mrazek Kindl - Eaves - Gustavsson IR - Helm, Mursak, Sammy, Cola, Smith, Joe Mac 23 Active - 6 Injured Reserve To call up either/or both, they'd have to send one or two down, and all but Tatar would be exposed to waivers. I thought Tatar played a solid game, and deserves a second chance(hopefully on Datsyuk's wing), so I'd hate to see him sent down. That leaves us with Cleary, Miller, Eaves as possible demotions. Emmerton I would expect is safe as a center, though if he, or any of the other guys mentioned could be salvaged and traded for picks, that'd be a huge bonus.

    Call up the kids now

Neither Quine nor Athanasiou play in the Q, they're both OHL boys. Who is the second highly regarded Defensman we have playing in th OHL? I only know of Sproul. I suspect you're speaking of Ouellet who plays in the Q. I completely agree with you on our farm system however. We have a very talented group of young players, especially for our average draft position.

    Wings Looking For Defenseman

Both guys were 22-23 years old when they joined the Wings. KH let them "ripen" over seas rather than in GR. Much the same as is happening with Jarnkrok now, who, coincidentally, is being compared to none other than Zetterberg. Do a little research on our prospects; I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Detroit has done a marvellous job of stocking good, young talent with their late picks; and while they aren't on the same level as the prospects being drafted in Edmonton, we as Wings fan also haven't had to put up with year after year of miserable seasons.

    Wings Looking For Defenseman

There's a reason most think our prospects are good; it's because they are. While we do have our fair share of soft Euro prospects, I think the likes of Sheahan, Ferraro, Callahan, Sproul, and McKee would strongly disagree with your overall assessment. Also, we have a couple all-star NHLers who were once considered soft euros, you've likely heard of them, Datsyuk and Zetterberg ring a bell? I wonder what could possibly make you think Nyquist can't skate or score in the NHL? Please inform us of what you see that our pro scouts must have missed in their multiple evaluations.
  16. I honestly can't believe some of you think Jimmy would be worthless in a trade. Seriously, give your heads a shake. Jimmy IS an all-star goalie. He's a workhorse that's averaged over 35 wins per season as a starter. He's averaged a save percentage near .920 as a starter, he's averaged a GAA of below 2.40 as a starter. There's not a single GM in the NHL who wouldn't want that from their starting goalie, and if you think otherwise, than you just dont know hockey. Having said that, Anyone who thinks Jimmy could fetch a Weber or Stamkos type player is just dreaming.

    OHL's Defenseman of the Month

Not sure Sproul would have beat out Corrado tbh. Corrado was highly impressive in camp, he did everything right and was still let go. Had Sproul not broken his arm however, I think you would have seen him in a team Canada jersey along side Ouelette. In the end though, Steve Spott chose to be loyal to Murphy, a player he coaches in juniors over more deserving players. If Sheldon Keefe were Canada's coach, you might have seen Sproul instead.

    Team Roll Call.

"Of course, I will probably have to leave, but my heart's here," Datsyuk told Sport-Express. "... Well, at least I celebrated the New Year at home, which for a long time did not happen. There is a possibility that I stay? It is always there. ... "Actually, I originally wanted to spend the season with CSKA until the end; it is a pleasure to play for their fans, to hear the Russian language." I'm guessing this is what Aaron Ward was reffering to.

    New coaches' impacts

Blashill has been running the PP, and showed us a new look on the 5 on 3 yesterday. A 3 man point, with 1 man low and 1 man screening the goalie. Very different.
