    Kronwall suspended one game

"What causes this infraction to rise to the level of supplemental discipline is the force to which the hit was delivered..." Just don't hit him as hard next time, Kronner. You silly man, you.

    Kronwall suspended one game

    1. No penalty on the play 2. No injury on the play 3. No history of prior suspensions or fines 4. Skate on the ice at impact, elbow tucked in, primary point of impact just below the head When you look at all the facts, it's pretty clear why they suspended him.

    Jean Beliveau Passes at 83

Mr.Beliveau will always have a place in my heart. When my father was dying of lung cancer, my younger brother, whom like my dad is a huge Habs fan, sent a letter to the Canadiens organization requesting words of encouragement. Within a week, he received a letter for my dad, it was a hand written letter by Jean Beliveau wishing him the best, and thanking him for his many years of fandom. I will never forget the look on my dad's face after reading that letter. It truly brought him joy in a very difficult time. R.I.P. Mr.Beliveau

    future captains?

Who said anything about sure things?! I sure didn't. This thread is speculation on future captains. My guess is no better, no worse than yours, or anyone else's. I'm looking 8-10 years down the line. Our prospects with (by far) the most leadership abilities are z-nasty and Larkin. Wether they make it to the nhl or not is another question, but both are believed to be nhl material.

    future captains?

C - Nasty A - Larkin A - DDK Nasty oozes leadership. He's been a C every where he's been. Scouts have already said Larkin is the type of player that will wear a letter in the nhl. DDK is just a hunch cause he's a stud.

    Dan Cleary may return...sigh

Ken Holland: Hello Daniel, I am calling to personally thank you for your many years of great service. You have been an integral part of the Detroit Red Wings since you signed on with us. However, despite earlier promises, I must regretfully inform you that we will not be offering you a contract for the upcoming season. Daniel Cleary: Wow, Kenny… I mean… where did this come from?!? I've devoted the last ten years of my life to the Detroit Red Wings. I left money and term on the table last year in Philly so I could play here with the promise of another contract to come... KH: I know Daniel, and we thank you for that, but based on you performance last year, and how well our prospects played filling in for you and other while the injury bug hit, we feel this is the direction we need to take as a franchise. DC: C’mon man, you know I only played poorly last year because I was injured. There’s still plenty left in the ol’ gas tank. I know I can get back to my old form, and deep down inside, you know it too Kenny! KH: That may be the case, Daniel. However we are simply not in a position where we can afford to bring you back on. I’m sorry. DC: Wow!, what happened to you, man? You use to be cool. KH: What?!? I’m still cool, Daniel. DC: No, you’re not. You've changed man, and not for the better. Loyalty use to mean something to you. I guess it doesn't anymore. KH: Loyalty is very important to me. DC: Whatever, man. You’re all talk. Take your lies and broken promises elsewhere. Talk to you later… KH: Wait! Don’t hang up! Let me see what I can do, Daniel. I’ll prove to you that I’m still cool. I’ll call your agent and see if we can’t work something out right away; perhaps a two-way contract? DC: Two-way contracts aren't cool, man. KH: You’re right, you’re right… I knew that. Definitely not cool. I can do better... just let me talk to your agent, ok? We’ll work something out, don’t worry Daniel. DC: Cool, man. I’ll see you when camp opens. Ciao. KH: Yeah, yeah… Ciao!

    Next Seasons Needs/Team Future

I'm guessing he sent Weiss and Tatar to the Jets for Wheeler, plus Nyquist and Miller to the Sharks for Burns. (based solely on who he left out of his lineup)
  8. Hey guys, as the title would suggest, I’m going to the Joe for the first time this Saturday to watch our boys play the Kings, and I’m super pumped about it! The reason I’m posting is that I'm looking for a little bit of help. I'm a Canadian from northern Ontario, and therefor am not familiar with the area. The wife booked us a hotel in Windsor for the night, and so my question would be: is there an efficient way to get to and from the Joe without driving (I plan on having a few beverages) from Windsor? If not, where would be the best/safest place to park (I’m not a fan of arena parking lots, and am not opposed to taking a cab)? I plan on driving down early Saturday morning, so we should have plenty of time before the game. Are there any attractions or sights worth seeing? Places a diehard Red Wings fan needs to go to? Is the Joe an adequate place to buy RW memorabilia, or is there a better place? I appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks guys. Ops, feel free to move this thread if its in the wrong place.

Going to the Joe for the First Time!

Really appreciate all the great advice folks. I knew this was the right place to ask, thanks.

Tatar should hire Larionov as his agent.

    Lineup Crunch: Who's going?

Mule will not be dealt. Were he to retire before the end of his contract, the Wings would be stuck with a huge penalty--as per the new cba. KH will not chance that.

who's on their way out of Detroit

    Correct. I mixed the two up. Burying his contract in the AHL would cost us: cap hit – [ minimum salary + $375,000 ] so $3,000,000 - [ $525,000 + $375,000 ] = $2,100,000 $900,000 isn't much cap relief.

The Red Wings and the Olympics

I think both Abby and Tatar have outside chances at making their respected clubs. Both players represented their countries very well at the World Championships in 2011-2012. Abby - 8GP 1G 3A 4P +4 Tatar - 10GP 2G 3A 5P +1

who's on their way out of Detroit

You are mistaken. We actually do get some relief if he is sent down. We'd be on the books for 2/3rds of his contract ($2M out of his $3M), but would be able to divide it up to $1M this year, and $1M next year. So sending Sammy down could free up $2M this year.

who's on their way out of Detroit

While improbable, definately not impossible. Reagrdless, GR is as low as he should be sent down, not Toledo as some have suggested.

who's on their way out of Detroit

Why is everyone so sure Sammy isn't legitimately hurt? This is the same guy who was hurt for 98% of last season; is it so hard to believe he may still be injured? I know it was reported he was ready to go near the end of our playoff run, but many guys play hurt at that time of year. There's also the possibility that he may have re-aggravated his injury somewhere along the line. Not trying to defend the guy, I want him off this roster as much as anyone, but to go as far as say we should send him down to Toledo is ridiculous. Also, how many of us wouldn't try pulling the same stunt if he isn't indeed still injured? He claims injury, and gets his full $3M, or he gets bought out and gets $2M... and before anyone says $2M plus the chance at another contract with another team, keep in mind, GMs likely aren’t lining up to sign a guy who missed all but 9 games (including playoffs) last year.

who's on their way out of Detroit

Does anyone here actually believe that the Wings would send Sammy, an NHL vet, and well liked teamate to TOLEDO!?!?! Not a chance the wings show such little class. At worst, they may try sending him to GR, no way he goes any further down than that.

Red Wings select RW Anthony Mantha 20th Overall

A co-worker of mine--a former Flyer draft pick, and current Red Line Report scout--had this to say about Mantha: "...we really don’t like Mantha but more because of his compete level. He is a big kid with good hands. He can find the net – 6’3/200lbs 50 goals this year. He’ll help out once he learns what it takes from the vets. We had him ranked 33rd overall – early 2nd round." He mostly scouts the OHL however, and had this to say about our OHL picks: "Zack Nastasiuk is not very fast and doesn’t make real quick reads/decisions but he is a gamer! We had him ranked 4rth rd at 106. Wings picked him 2nd rd at 48. Think this was a bit early as he probably would have still been there next rd. Can help offensively 20g 20a in 62games. Bit soft only 32pim. Tyler Burtuzzi left me shaking my head. 2nd round at 58th. He has a heart the size of Texas but he plays a big mans game in an average sized body. Willing to drop the mitts but got pummelled by a heavyweight last year Was concussed and missed 1/3 of the season. Too early to choose this type of talent. We had him ranked 172 – 6th rd. Think having his uncle Todd there might have helped sway some public relation votes. Overall as RLR thinks, Detroit had their poorest draft in 10 plus years. But…it remains to be seen how the “prospects” develop."

What would you give up for Malkin?

Losing Malkin would have hurt the Pens much worse than the possibility of losing Letang. Truth is, Pitsburgh has a ton of talented prospects on the blueline... Despres, Maatta, Harrington, Pouliot, Dumoulin. Too bad they traded Joe Morrow for a washed up Brendan Morrow, else that would have made 6 extremely talented defensive prospects.

    Fraser's take on Penalty Shot

The way the game was officiated last night, it's almost as if the NHL would benefit from having a game 7 played by two divisional rivals who just happen to be original 6 teams. ...What’s that you say? Millions of dollars?!?! Wow, i had no idea. The NHL, i suppose, is a business after all, and businesses tend to like making money. Not suggesting there's a conspiracy against the Wings, because these things tend to happen league wide.
  22. Gotta imagine it'll be Bert or Sammy. Bert, IMO, played a better game 5, but Sammy scored. It'll be interesting to see what Babs decides.. maybe Eaves comes out? Thoughts?

    Dmen in GR next year

If Marchenko does in fact come over from Russia next season, it will be to play with the Wings or Griffins. I suspect he'd bump either Nicastro or Nedomlel to the ECHL. Griffs may also decide to keep Billins around after the solid season he had.
  24. cr00d

Wings sign D Nick Jensen to a 2 year entry contract

Don't forget about Marchenko! All signs point to him coming over from Russia to play NA hockey. Oh, and he's also a righty. ...and then Backman coming over the following season. I'm guessing guys like Nedomlel, and Nicastro will likely be pushed to the ECHL to make room for these guys. Sproul Ouellet Marchenko Backman Almqvist Jansen Nicastro Nedomlel De Haas McKee Solid looking defensive prospects.

Wings sign D Nick Jensen to a 2 year entry contract

6'1 195lbs Was recently named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association defensive player of the year. Was named a NCAA West First-Team All-America. Signing a pro contract means he will forego his senior season at St Cloud, and likely play for the Griffins next year.
