Stuart is 29 for God sakes .. He'd easily be a #1 defender on any other NHL team Kronwall is 28 .. These guys are coming to their prime .. they are the future of this team. I honestly think Lidstrom will hang them up after this season and thats were you are going to need rafalski/kronwall and Stuart. No need to get rid of these guys for a short term fix cuz once the "Perfect Human Being" retires were f'd in the A. Someone said it best "Meech is a 7th d man and a 13th forward" thats awesome he can assume 2 cap hits in to one tiny fraction. Lebda is expandable.

I wouldnt waste 3 mill on dead weight .. even if hes a "pp specialist". Huds for 3 mill on the 2nd pp line is more like it ... Im sure if Hudler comes back they will give him a bigger role than what he has had on the team so far

All three are here till they retire. Holmstrom is still a + player and any team would snag him up in a minute. There's no doubt he'll rebound from a poor finals. Draper is still speedy and his faceoff % is always at the top of the league. His ability to go out and get the job done with little to no mistakes is another reason he isn't going anywhere. Abdelkador is still a green horn and it was already said in the press barring an outrageous training camp hell be in Grand Rapids. Maltby's mouth doesnt get as much attention as it used to so his role of "agitator" doesnt quite fit anymore. His salary is modest and he does what is expected of a 4th liner. It will be a sad end the season next year as Lids Homer and Malts contracts are all up. Lids is the only one pry coming back .. if he doesnt go to sweden .. dunt dunt dunt duhhhh ..

Downey (.475) another dirt cheap player to plug holes Raffi - Lids Kronwall - Stuey Ericsson - Lebda Lilja (-1.250) put on long term IR wont count against cap. Meech (.500) plug roster hole .. another wing devoloped player .. Osgood - Howard equals ... drum roll please .. around 58.1 mill ..lets all pray the cap goes up 2-3 millie

Detroit will have to move a D-man and put Lilja's 1.25 Million dollar cap hit on long term I.R. Sounds like his headaches arent going away anytime soon.. thats terriable .. but it also will free up some much needed loot
