  1. Born in the Red and White

Biggest Red Wings news of the offseason this far

    1. Hossa (It shocked the league, and I don't think we even expected it.) 2. Bowman (It came as a shock to us all, esp. after he turned down all the jobs the Leafs were offering him) 3. Stuart resigning (Not shocking but I didn't think it was going to happen.) 4. Lilja resigning (Mostly because I think [hope] he will be cut or traded, and shouldn't have been resigned in the first place.) 5. McLellan (It sucks, but I thought it would come at some point.) 6. Kronwall (He is still healthy and hasn't had a freak on-ice accident to take away half a season.) 7. Filpulla (Expected) 8. Hasek/Drake (Chelios....?)

    The Most Overrated/Underrated Superstar

Complete sense. That was the same point that I was trying to make with my Brodeur post. The way I see it is that Osgood has never gotten the respect that he deserved. If you compare him to Brodeur I would say that they both took advantage fo the situations they were in. Now while I am not saying that either is not nor was a good to great goaltender on Stanley Cup teams, I am saying that one is overrated, and the other underrated. For example I see them both as 8's out 10. Brodeur however was hyped up and rated as a 9 while Osgood was not hyped up and blamed for any problems (as once was the case with every Detroit goaltender and QB (sorry to bring up the stinking mound of crap that is professional football under the Fords in Detroit)). Due to the fact that essential they have both benefited greatly from playing in defensive minded schemes they both profited, one was just overrated (I'm not saying he isn't good) and one was brought up by a team in a city where we blame everything on the netminders. I'm not saying that Brodeur doesn't deserve what he has gotten in NJ, I'm just saying that if it was Osgood in NJ and Brodeur brought up by the Wings, I would not be surprised if this conversation was not totally reversed. I hope I didn't just confuse everyone.

He is undeinably one of the top 2, if not the greatest player ever. However, as a coach, he is pathetic, and IMO should have already been fired. Honestly how can you come in as the coach who will make a franchise relevant, and you go and amass a stellar 107-122-17 record!!! Scotty must be crapping in his pants thinking that "the Great One" is going to overtake his coaching records so soon... [Grammar edit]

    The Most Overrated/Underrated Superstar

In all truth I agree with Brodeur being overrrated. In fact with the migration away from a staunch defensive mindset in NJ, I would not only not be surprised if he wasn't considered good this year. The Devil's of the past always had one of the best D's in the league. Mnay goalies could have put up similar numbers when you see so very few good shots coming in. Also overrated that I have not seen on this board: Theodore. The guys one really good season in Montreal was a fluke. That team rallied behind Koivu (sp) and they all played out of their minds that year. Theodore is making an entire career out of that season (it isnt the first time a player has made a career off of one season, nor will it be the last). Theodore is not a top 10 goalie in the league and yet he is getting paid more than the NHL's most underrated goalie last year, Osgood. As far as underrated goes, I see Osgood near the top of the list. IMO he should be considered a lock for the HHOF after he retires based on his play on not only good defensive teams (the Wings), but also on very poor defensive teams. IMO the credit given to Brodeur should in fact be given to Osgood, yeah he doesnt have the wins that Brodeur does, but when you start 75 games in a season things tend to skewed in your favor. Detroit has never called on Ozzie to start that many games. But I want to mention the most underrated team and goalie in the NHL both are in Texas. Turco, (if he could ever figure out how to consistently play well in Detroit, we would be in trouble) is an outstanding goalie that while certain aspects of his game are not underrrated (puck handling) he does not get the credit he deserves, since he took over from the Eagle. Turco is a fantastic goalie who is much better than he gets credit for. As far as underrated team the Stars, which leads me to my next point... Brendan Morrow. Morrow is not a top 5 forward, nor will he ever be. What people dont realize is that he carries that team emotionally. After games 3&4 in Dallas, I was talking to Turco, Modano and Morrow, underneath the stands at AA Centre. The man will never score 200 points in a season, but he knows how to lead a team, and his over all skill set is quietly quite good and very few people outside of Dallas take notice to this. His leadership is what is underrated, he leads by example and is not afraid to get dirty. Morrow brought a team that was not as talented and LED them not only past two teams with superior talent, but two teams that beat them in their own division. I tried to stay away from praising the Wings, and I would like to note that while I do reside in Dallas, and I go to Stars games, I am not by any means a Stars fan. I just get to see them play and have realized that while they aren't the best team, they don't get all the credit they deserve.

    LGW double standard

Dallas Failed, as did the old Colorado team. I also believe there were one or two teams in California that failed as well. I say we give Quebec anohter shot. As well as winnipeg. If Edmonton can make money, why cant QC and Winnipeg? Makes sense to me in the salary capped NHL of today. Oh yeah and. Chicago Sucks to High hell, Why not move them. Nobody goes to the games, the majority of them arent on TV. NoOne would say lets move an original 6 team.

    Octopus

Who are you? And why do you think that tradition doesn't matter? Would you touch the conference champs trophy? Would you even look at the presidents cup? Do you not stand up during the national anthem?? Aren't these all traditions? why don't we just throw all of these away too? I say the more octopi the better... Give one to every fan and let them pick a time and throw them on the ice whenever they feel like it (that might be a bit of overkill) what I'm really saying is that if you have a chance and can stomach the feeling of an octopus on your body, Do It!! Ill root for you, and ill even sign a petition that you shouldn't be kicked out...

    Playoffs - Austin, TX

I dont even have cable in my place (poor grad student) so that isnt a real possibility, but I would love to find a bar and join some other wings fans in watching the games.... Hockey, since I've moved here has been my least favorite loss...

That was absolutely incredible video... Lets follow it up with a great playoff one too!!
  12. Born in the Red and White

Hudler vs. Flip vs. Sammy vs. Cleary

PK isnt taken into account in +/-. Only even strength goals count on this. And it is sad to see that on this team. The only person that has any excuse to be any double digits "-" on this team is Calder, seeing as though he came from Philly with a - 72... then again even he's in the black since joining the wings...

    Florida Wants Hudler For Bertuzzi

OK... Look at it this way. Hudler for Bertuzzi might be a great deal if Bert can help us get it done this year. But as for his chances of staying in Detroit beyond this year?? I'd say slim to nil, and even that probabley closer to the nil. Don't get me wrong I'd love to see us get another cup, but in the long run, we are gonna have to get some grit around here... Someone that has grit and that we can resign. As for all of this "talent" we have, yeah we do have some great prospects, but they are just that prospects, until proven otherwise. And even so if they are so great, and mile ahead of Hudler, then why didnt he try and send him back to GR and bring one of them up instead. If im thinking right now I say go ahead trade some of that "talent" for Bert, and this is coming from a guy that said that Big Bert should not only be kicked out of the League but also be tossed in jail for the criminal act he committed on Steve Moore. Yeah, he said he was sorry, but then again if he is so great why would Vancouver have given him up? Him and Naslund were suppposedly the real deal together?? On my next note While I am right now advocating trading for Bert, and I would even be alright with giving up Hudler for him Holland needs to address a big man THIS offseason. We can carry on a franchise throwing away talent for 3 month rentals every season come playoff time... I say go for it if Florida will take Hudler straight up
