The overconfidence people have that Dekeyser with for sure comes to Detroit scares me a little. Call me superstitious, I just don't like assuming anything is certain. "Don't count your chickens before they hatch" is the saying, I believe. What are the chances he comes here? I've not been able to find many good articles about it. Has he said anywhere that he would prefer Detroit? If this is the case, the next thing that scares me is what Kenny will do. I'm hoping he takes a two-way contract and is just promised to start with the big club. Can he be offered any amount of money or are the restrictions because of his age? I live in Kalamazoo and I hear so many good things about him and I hope he ends up a Wing..

I miss the Babcock that got pissed at Holland for not going after Brent Burns back before he was traded to the Sharks. Where's that guy? That Babcock would have a few things to say about our currently unaddressed needs. Honestly, I'm wondering if he's gotten a little complacent because he basically could do little to no wrong in regard to coaching with the lineup he's had over the years. Not to mention the great assistant coaches he used to have by his side. I have faith in him, but the rest of this season and beginning of next season should really be make or break time for him and I really hope he steps up o the plate. This year has been kind of funky because of the lockout, not that I am blaming everything on that, but we have several new faces in the roster and behind the bench and there wasn't really a lot of time to figure out which players molded. I think that's why Babs has been messing with the lines (also because of injuries, obviously). My big problem with him is he preaches "earn your place on this team", yet he rewards underachievers top-six play time. Also, he apparently shares Hollands beliefs with younger players in not allowing them to play bigger roles. Tatar is a perfect example. He brings it every time he's on the ice. He could and should be playing on our second line. Cleary should be in the bottom six, Tatar should be working with Pav, simple as that. I honestly don't know what he is thinking with the Abs-Pav-Cleary line. It's very obviously not productive and it is very obviously frustrating Pav. EDIT: I have not seen the past three games, I didn't realize Franzen is on Pavs line now...

But in all seriousness, if what Babs says was true Tatar would be on one of the top two lines.

I agree, Holland (too) often looks for "bargains" in his signings and contract extensions, but this contract is ridiculous! In my opinion 7.5 mil should be the MOST a player is paid - in ANY sport! And I'm talking elite players like Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Stamkos, Weber, Crosby, etc. It's not like that is an offensive salary to offer a player. I mean this isn't football or baseball where money is passed around like its nothing - to some of the most undeserving athletes. IMO this is the kind of crap that messes up a team. I was pissed when Weber signed that offer sheet from Philly, that was purely for money. I think that contract is really going to hinder their success in the future. To clarify, I am not one of those people who says players shouldn't try to make more money, who wouldn't? I just think this crap is getting a little out of hand, especially in the world of the salary cap. And, believe it or not there is such a thing as playing for the love of the game. I mean if I got paid millions of dollars to play the game I love, I would be pretty ecstatic. Its not like playing for 6M instead of 8,9,10M is going to negatively affect your life, I mean it's manageable. Look a Steve Yzerman, one of the greatest players in the game, he made 8 mil two times in his career and 7.5 mil one year (when there was no cap). Besides that his contract was for 6M, 5M, and lower. I know its a different time and those numbers mean different things now but my point is that Steve Yzerman was arguably one the most important parts of the Wings success and he wasn't demanding Fedorov money, even though he could have. I understand this is the real world and people are just trying to get as much as they can monetarily, but there are other real factors to consider like salary cap and the future of your team. I don't remember who, but weren't there some Wings players that deferred some of their salary to sign Hull and Robitaille? That's the kind of stuff, in my opinion, that makes a team stronger. Kenny has it right (sometimes) not dealing out the big bucks for some players. Do I think he underpays players? Yes. But I think our elite players (Z,Dats) are paid a very appropriate and reasonable amount of money. They didn't have to sign the dotted line, but they did, so they could play for the team they love and are a part of. Eh, I'm done ranting now.

Our biggest injury was signing Sammy, the 3 million dollar open roster spot! But besides that I am very happy the Grif boys have been able to come up and show what they've got. Also, I think Kindl and Emmerton have really stepped up. It's a bittersweet feeling because you realize that these guys never would have gotten this kind of ice time or an opportunity to play in the NHL (for the Wings) had there not been so many injures. It makes me wonder how many players we might have missed out on or who's career might have gone a little differently if they weren't stuck in the AHL until they were 25. Off topic: Holland's "overriping" method scares me with Dekeyser. I doubt he will want to go pro and stay in the AHL for 3+ years. I'm not saying he shouldn't earn ice time, but at least start him in the bottom pairing right?

Why would you want to underpay one of the most consistent players on our team? 3.5M is not a bad price. How much does Fil make again? I'm hoping for a 3 year deal. ...Sammy makes 3 mil for pete's sake! If we get him in the 3 mil range that will be a complete steal if he plays with the same consistency he is now. It's one thing to complain about overpaying players that don't deserve it, but this guy brings it every game. Plus, you know Philly is going to offer him 7M if he's still unsigned but the summer. lol This.
