Let's just say I've tried to avoid taking a side one way or the other even as the frustration and stupid comments - "We like our team" and the over-ripe comment keep mounting up.

I would be too, but I'd be very very upset if my team's captain was pulling the crap Crysby did during that game. Frustration or not, you'd absolutely NEVER see 95% of the captains throughout the NHL start acting like a petulant child.

If you need to support Franzen by saying he's consistent at anything other than floating, you're wasting our time and your bandwidth.

You can't count on Horton yet, much like you couldn't count on Kindl/Smith last year. You just don't know yet. A veteran top-4 dman would be great to pair with Dekeyser. Then put Kindl/Smith on the 3rd d-pair and let them figure it out.

He wasn't the top goal scorer, that was Datsyuk. If Franzen doesn't score 7 goals in 8 games, not only do the Wings not make the playoffs, but he's obviously in single digits for goals and assists. Is THAT worth 3.9 Million? It's not like he had 40 GAMES before that to do something, but he basically didn't do squat. I am thinking this team needs a serious kick in the ass and a restructuring. What it doesn't need are guys with tons of talent but who sometimes play like a 5 year old girl learning how to skate for the first time. If this was Robert Lang (again), there would be no doubt, no matter what he was being paid. Some players on this team are complacent and Franzen is most assuredly one of them. This team needs a restructuring badly and that $4 mm would be a nice addition to the cap space. Bert's done. He may not know it yet.

smith isn't the problem. Will he even be as good as Kronwall is? Maybe, but probably not. But if he can develop into a solid 2-pair D-man, the Wings will be ok with him. He moves the puck well for a rookie, he skates well enough to probably be a forward in some systems and he plays with his head up. Rookies mistakes happen, they aren't all super-human like Lidstrom was and is....

I won't be watching hockey. Simple as that.

I'd do it - this team needs an attitude adjustment. They won't be getting rid of Kronner/Dats/Z for obvious reasons, so the next tier down is what needs to change. that next tier is Fil/Franzen/Sammy/Bert - basically all veterans who have either out-lived their usefulness due to age/injury or because they don't play with enough grit/passion/determination and they don't consistently bring the same effort every game. Franzen just isn't the same player that he was when he signed that contract. when the effort is there he still is, but it took 40 games for it to show up in the regular season and then it disappeared again once the playoffs started. that is entirely unacceptable.

The biggest issue with assuming a long-standing conspiracy within an organization is the assumption carries a requirement that the people conspiring are competent and somewhat forward-looking to anticipate new ways to implement the conspiracy anew. I don't know about anyone else, but the brain trust of the NHL, in my opinion, aren't competent and sure as hell aren't forward looking.

Coaching only goes so far in the pros - it's about talent and effort. The Wings lose in the talent department, so they have to make it up in the effort department. when they don't, the talent gap becomes that much more noticeable. Babcock can only do so much. 1 day, 2 days a week a month - it won't matter if the players can't execute the gameplan due to lack of talent and can't play sound fundamental hockey because of lack of effort.
