You're clearly looking at a different hit than I am. The initial contact point is the shoulder to the chest area. He grazes the chin (and barely at that) as the guy is folding around his shoulder impact to the chest. This suspension is a friggin joke.

They stopped playing defense starting at about the 10 minute mark in this period. That's how, ultimately, this is a tie game.

Defensive depth is lacking and when you're on the PK half the night, it'll show up.

Either Anaheim or San Jose. I would say there's a pattern there, but the Kings are decidedly not a team that gives up.

While I still think they are a quality D-man and another top-6 forward away from being a cup contender, if the Wings bring it like this every night, they can play with anyone. Doctors have cleared athletes forever when the athlete says they are good to go, only to see that athlete end up struggling or getting hurt immediately upon his or her return. The Wings need to give him a few shifts in a game to see how it goes, so him running with the 4th line in practice makes sense. Babs can always switch up the lines mid-game.

They have zero idea how long Bert's back is going to last in this game. You ease him in if you can and that's what Babcock is going to do.

I don't know what game you were watching, but from the end of the 1st period on, this game was Anaheim outplaying Detroit to the point where the goal margin is not indicative of anything but Howard's brilliance in net. There is plenty of time to swing it though, but there has to be a complete attitude change from the players. They aren't the more-talented team, which means they have to outwork Anaheim on every puck battle, down low and along the boards. Given how wildly inconsistent this team has been this year, I'm sure we'll see it at some point in the next few games, but it won't last longer than a game or two, and there is no guarantee they'll win one of the games where they do show up.

LOL - I've been questioning this roster for 3 damned years now - it was clear Holland wasn't planning for the post-Lidstrom era and was and still is infatuated with guys like Sammy and Bert. Not to mention he gives up 1st round picks for Quincey ( ) And from what we've seen all year long, they clearly do have depth issues and will continue to have them as long as we rely on older players who are more fragile (or who have a lot of miles on the tires) and players who have ZERO grit (Ericcson/Flip especially). What other than the last week of the season, has this group done this year to inspire any faith? This isn't 1997. And it sure as hell isn't 2002. Wake up. The Wings barely got into the playoffs in a shortened season, are playing with basically 1/2 of a d-pair and about 4 legit players in the top 6. There are some nice parts, but they lack shooting, physicality and any type of legitimate secondary scoring. The better team won tonight. End of story. This may be a very quick series unless a completely different Wings team shows up. Open your eyes already. Yeah I don't get the infatuation with Bert playing either. The guy hasn't played basically at all this year. Same with Helm. Inserting them now will only disrupt things and likely lead to further injury.

As someone who has followed the Wings basically since birth, I reject the notion that I have to be satisfied with the product we are seeing right now or to take a hike. That's just true arrogance (or is it defeatism?) showing. Perhaps you should take the hike and get off of the bandwagon.

Yes they are young, but with few exceptions, that youth isn't coupled with talent. Plus, if they are running guys like Kindl out there in crunch time, how is that NOT an indictment of how horrifically bad this roster is structured right now? Blow it up. Let Quincey/Filipula/Kindl/Sammy/Bert/Coliacovo walk and get some quality players who play with grit and toughness instead of being pushed around all night long. The wings used to skate better than every team in the NHL, that most assuredly isn't the case anymore. Anaheim skated circles around them tonight and it's only going to get worse, not better.

If keeping some stupid playoff streak is the main goal, you're doing it wrong. This roster needs some serious revamping.
