Nope - there needs to be a focus change. If there's one thing Holland has shown is he's trying to use the same tricks that worked when the Wings were close to winning the cup and trying to use that as a slingshot to get them competitive for one now. The Wings just aren't that close to a Cup. If Washington and/or Toronto hadn't collapsed we're having this conversation 3 weeks ago.

Fire Holland cut Franzen/Lashoff/Kindl/Weiss/Sammy/Cleary. don't resign Bert or Alfie. Dangle Howard as trade bait. Blow it up. Bring in a new GM (Jarmo in Columbus would be epic for this franchise and I think they could get him too) and rebuild.

the refs aren't out there to screw the Wings by decree. They may suck at the job, but getting screwed implies intent. Get a f***in grip. Good teams find a way to overcome. The Wings aren't that good - they'd be losing this series if it was 5 v 5 all the time too.

This team needs to focus on getting the young guys up to see if they can play at the NHL level. No more contracts to Cleary or Sammy or Bert. Also - find some physical wingers who can mix it up with other teams forwards and not get pushed around all game. And the defense is a disaster after Kronwall. Maybe Smith emerges to DeKeyser's level but Ericcson is prone to stupid plays and penalties, Kindl/Quincey are basically pylons that move. I won't even get into the Howard contract and how that hamstrings this team when Mrazek might be the future even now.

I am 100% certain we said something similar after the Chicago series last year. Until the guy who made this team leaves, we're going to continue to get a parade of over-ripe youngsters and stupid old and fragile vets who don't contribute.

I actually turned the game off about 5 minutes in when it was 3-0. they didn't have legs, they couldn't pass the puck - nothing. Then I turn it back on about halfway through the second and while it was 3-1, they were beating the dogs*** out of the Penguins physically and through the middle of the ice so it was only a matter of time. MAF is horrible. The guy has no composure whatsoever. Meanwhile I wish the Wings had the heart the CBJ has shown so far this series. That team is going to be a cast iron ***** in coming years if they keep building it right.

Why? It's not like the lines will be shuffled or the players will magically get better. This is what Detroit is - a limited offensive team with defense and goaltending issues.
