I'll give you the last one, but what of the others. Detroit was amazing last year because they possessed the puck to a point that the other team would be frustrated by the time they got it. And if they did get it, rarely was it in front of the net, it was at the blue line and along the boards. Very very rarely did Detroit lose a game when they were able to play their game. This year they don't seem to be able to possess the puck even with NO pressure on them. And I don't know about "perfect" to compete, clearly they are in this game. However to win games consistently in the playoffs (and I mean win not merely compete), they will need to be sharper.

I think (and I preface this by saying I see a LOT of CBJ games due to my location), that with Mason in goal the Jackets are actually playing defense with confidence. They didn't have that even with LeClaire back there. While I'm sure most of the top goalies in the NHL could have done as well in the system, let's remember that in Late November when Leclaire and Norrena went down all they had was Mason and someone named Dan LaCosta as their goalies. He stepped up to the plate and system or no he has gotten the job done. The scary part is he played very well for 3 weeks with ******* MONO and only started to fade in weeks 4 and 5 when he shouldn't have been playing at all. That said, Nashville is truly a mediocre team that took advantage of a weaker part of their schedule to claw their way into contention and Rinne was right there the entire time. they probably don't do that without Rinne being there and being consistent for them. The Calder is going to Steve Mason though simply due to the fact that Columbus is between 5 and 7 points out from a playoff spot as it stands right now.

Is the Mule a good player? Certainly. There are 29 other teams in the NHL that would take him in a heartbeat and put him on their first line. Is the Mule a great player? Depends on your definition of great and if you think he'll be as good or better in a system other than Detroits'. Personally, I think he's a good player with decent scoring ability who can handle himself on the defensive end. I don't, however, think he'll be as good on the offensive end without a couple of Hall of Famers in Lids, Datsyuk and Hank feeding him the puck. I could be proven wrong, but I think he's as much of a product of the system as his skills add up to him being "great".... For all that, I'd like him to remain a Red Wing, but if it came down to him and Hossa (who is special in my opinion), I'd take Hossa 100 times out of 100.
