Who says winning the Cup is of the same value to a player from outside of North American AND not already in the NHL? Different people, different cultures. This episode won't do it probably, but at some point you are going to see more players go the Jagr route. It's just a matter of whether those players even considered playing in the NHL or not. The NHL, as a whole, has a public perception problem, the point of my point which was muddied by a very cryptic picture that still doesn't make sense, episodes like this and "leadership" like we've seen from Toronto is only going to worsen the situation and make leagues like the KHL that much more aggressive.

The KHL doesn't know that and their clubs won't admit it to the players..... I'm telling you, the Cup doesn't necessarily mean as much to the Europeans as it does to the Canadians and the Americans. More issues like this one, especially when it ONLY involved european players is going to sour the situation further.

The world is changing. And the KHL among others are actually trying to compete. Some good to great players will gravitate to wear the money talks and they aren't treated like cheap rentals for exhibitions like what Bettman is doing here.

while it pains me to say this and yes I admit it is a bit premature, but Lids and Dats should really reconsider the league they are playing in. This level of pettiness is only going to get worse - not better. Just think about it for a second - WHO, exactly, is going to notice this slight and how Lids and Dats are being treated? The same league that signed Jaromir Jagr perhaps? How about any of the dozen or so Euro leagues that are constantly trying to lure NHL players away? Do you think the European-born players might listen a bit more after this fiasco?

Phoenix is more likely to load up than Columbus I think. The Columbus GM is making noises about doing stuff that is only in the best interest of Columbus as a franchise and that includes not trading for this year. Take the Williams trade for example - they traded a 6th rounder that they received for Jody Shelley from the Sharks and a player that was never going to amount to much with the franchise itself. They only have to pay like 1.1 million of Williams' salary too. Essentially they are looking at next year as their make or break year because that's when their minor system will be pushing all of their good draft picks up to the big club AND there should be a couple first rate players out there to pair with Nash. They've found their franchise goalie, making LeClaire expendable too.

Norrena hasn't been with Columbus since Thanksgiving. LeClaire is hurt (again) and is probably going to have season-ending ankle surgery sooner rather than later and he isn't worth Spezza or any other LEGIT top 6 forward anyway. If Columbus gets healthy and stays that way, they are better than Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota and Edmonton and at that point it's just a matter of playing like it. But they haven't been healthy all year long and they are still right in the thick of things.

Essentially the NCAA gives their blessing, whatever that is, so the teams can play in the bowl games. Keep in mind most of the bowl games have gift packages for the players too so the NCAA has to bless that as well. If they took that away, the bowls would stop. But they won't because Myles Brand et. al have no balls. The NCAA runs the D-1AA and D-II and D-III playoffs as well as just about ever other sport I can think of EXCEPT D-1A football.

Mason actually let a bad one in tonight. Someone from Colorado shot a wrister in from about 25 feet and he whiffed with the glove. A vet probably tries to put his body behind the glove. But then Columbus gets 2 goals in about 20 seconds to make it 4-2. Colorado just scored again, but I hate Colorado to the point that I hope Columbus wins 10-3

the NCAA has nothing to do with the college bowl set up. If they did, we would have a playoff. Instead the BCS and the bowls are completely outside of the NCAA's purview.
