while I don't like Florida at all, I can definitely tip my hat to them for getting to the championship game in both football and basketball. It's absolutely unheard of for ONE school to do it in the same year, much less TWO doing it AND going head to head for both titles. That's crazy. that too, but it's kinda hard to get tickets for the games when the Wings are in town. I'll show up (and I did) to all of the Nashville games when they are in Columbus. Same with Dallas and Colorado That and my brother had some classes with Dan Fritsche when both of them were at Ohio State....

I just like the hate for Columbus I'm sensing, so much so I can't WAIT until football season Hell it should be practically free wins for the Wings, except it isn't this year for some reason (3-3 so far).... I'll take that AND the chance to actually see a game without having to drive to Chicago or Detroit or Pittsburgh. I won't be the only one in the arena, not even close to it, and if they had any offense to speak of, at least against teams other than Detroit, they'd be relatively competitive as well.

Exactly. If I say that Columbus is a hockey town, Cincy definitely isn't. Hell they barely support the Reds anymore and once the Bengals remember they are the Bengals, they'll stop showing up to those games as well. For some reason I get the feeling that Bettman will eventually expand the NHL into KC, but Birmingham and Louisville aren't quite backwoods enough for consideration yet

Oh so we should eliminate them because YOU think they are worthless? I've been to quite a few hockey games in DC, as well as Philly, Pittsburgh and Columbus, along with Detroit. Columbus isn't the least energetic on that list (The Caps would be followed by Pittsburgh) and it's not that close. I'm pretty certain there are some NHL fans that would like to eliminate Detroit for the very same reason, and Montreal as well. That's hilarious. Funny I have quite a few friends in Columbus who have adopted the Blue Jackets and absolutely hate the Red Wings. It's that entire Ohio State/ Michigan thing I think. Bottom line, the CBJ aren't going anywhere, whether you like it or not.

Actually I was in Tampa for about a month the year they won the Cup over Calgary. I see it in Tampa, I don't see it for the Panthers. I see the same type of atmosphere in Columbus that I saw in Tampa. It's just that in Columbus they tried to build the team via Free Agency instead of the draft at first and they haven't recovered. Columbus isn't going anywhere. You still haven't given me a solid reason to eliminate Columbus either.

Ok and?? Neither does Florida except for one singular year and guess who was their coach that year?? Columbus isn't going anywhere..... Phoenix has no tradition. Neither really does Minnesota in their current form. Or the Capitals for that matter. Being good once every other decade isn't exactly a tradition. Trust me, I've either lived in Columbus or around columbus for the past 10 years now, it's a good market for hockey. It isn't the fourth or fifth option after baseball, basketball and the NFL like it is in a LOT of other cities. That and the fact that there are nearly 1.5 million people within half an hour drive of the city means the franchise is there to stay.

I wouldn't eliminate columbus.....they get pretty decent crowds and I think Columbus is a pretty good hockey market. I'd go with Florida and Phoenix

I know it's way too logical for the NHL to do this, but why NOT have a regionalization type TV scheme? Sure if you have Sydney Crosby against Ilya Kovalchuk playing you'll want to show that game to most people, but that means those other two slotted games (say Detroit/Nashville and Anaheim/Calgary) won't get shown on TV at all. It happened this year in Ohio. They ended up showing Pittsburgh and someone (might've been NYR), but since Columbus was playing Colorado and it wasn't selected to be shown, no one had TV to the game at all, not even local market.
