1. Because one of the teams may be leading at the end of regulation. 2. If there is not a winner after the shootout, why have the shootout? I must be missing something.

Not that I advocate it but another possibility would be to just go to the shootout with no overtime period. 2 points for the winner. No points for the loser. I know. The teams that have the more skilled players would play for a tie. So what? This isn't kindergarten.

It was a tossup between Roy and Hasek for me. The only reason I picked Roy was because he had more success in the playoffs.

Me too. I don't like the shootout. Never have. I don't even like overtime during the regular season. It's just not fair when a team has a lot of back-to-back games and also have to deal with OT and travel. If it is so popular among the fans, so be it. Have overtime and shootouts but don't give the losing team ANY points. Two points for a win and that's it.

Mac is probably done. But what do I know? At the beginning of the season I predicted that he would have a great season because he would start 2008-09 in better shape then he had been in the previous 5-6 years. Do you really want Franzen fighting when he has previously had concussions? I believe he is far too valuable to the team to miss as many games as it would take to recover.

This is a very important game for both teams. Jackets are in 6th place with 86 points. Nashville is at 7th spot with 84 points. The Ducks are in 9th place with 82 points. The teams are tied at 1-1 at the end of the first period. Columbus scored with 45 seconds left in the period.

It seems to me that every time the Wings have played a big game (according to them) they have dominated. I believe they are coasting now in order to be well rested for the playoffs with a minimum number of injuries. Almost every opponent we've played lately HAS to win. Wings don't. NYI were playing for Joey Mac. Hell, Lidstrom was smiling about MacDonalds' game in the post-game interview. I'll start to worry when, or if, we're down by 2 games in a playoff series. -

It would be a little easier to understand if it was a team fighting for a playoff spot. But Detroit did it against a team that has every reason to lose. (#1 pick in the draft) That's the part that worries me.

NYI shouldn't have a problem getting last place. They have a back-to-back at Detroit and home with the Flyers. Then they have road games against Washington and Montreal.
