kovy taking the modano approach
-
I wonder how abs and helm are feeling right now.... If I was them I'd be a little annoyed. I hope that was just speculation by babs, and spector is right. Wings just need to move on. I't be different If they were waiting on kovy or someone, but modano?
-
lol he still impressed man and I think he could crack the roster but it's pretty much full and he wouldn't get as much ice time here. Definite injury call up though if god forbid one of our star players goes down.
-
tatar did nor score 76 points in 42 games 32 pts in 58 games which is still impressive for a 18-19 year old who has never played in NA
-
errrr... ok what i should have said instead of "getting destroyed" is that our guys always seem to get hit hard and often. it would be nice if kenny could go out and possiblly trade one of miller/meech/rittola to bring in a guy who can not be a liability and hit back. none of the above does that. ok you win, the wings will not get "destroyed". can we get back on topic please?
-
lol @ people nit picking "getting destroyed" maybe It was a bad example but most logical people should know what I mean.
-
this is my point. it's not about tough guys. it's about getting rid of redundant players to bring in guys who can counter the other teams physical play. it's not going to stop the wings from getting hit but it be nice if they had more guys who could hit back. leave it for someone to turn it into an enforcing thread...
-
lol you still don't get it. even our front office knows this team needs to get tougher and by tough i dont mean a guy who just fights, a guy who can play and at least stick up for himself and teammates. but luckily our front office see's this and has started to draft accordingly, but it doesn't help the situation now. but go ahead and reply, you wont get a response from me, im done with you.
-
you obviously didn't get the point of my post which was trade redundancy for need. Franzen, cleary, and abby playing a full season has nothing to do with it. are you saying franzen is tough? lol instead you choose to nit pick one liitle part of my post. cleary and abby are both play gritty game but lets not kid ourselves.
-
this is the problem, not enough roster spots since the roster is already full. the only way this team gets tougher is if holland gets creative and makes some trades but like one poster said, there just may not be a market for that right now. Not saying i'd want carcillo but philly is in cap trouble. I think they'd be interested in miller or rittola for him for example.
-
fortunately, there is some guys in the system that bring grit and skill but they are a ways off. Callahan is probably the toughest of them at this point however. The top 6 I think will be looking fine in the future if tartar, nyqvist, ferrero, sheahan, mursak all project to their potentials plus we will have an old z,mule, dats, fill and huds should be in their primes the future is bright!! But it's right now that worries me because if we go into this season with the team we have now guys are going to get destroyed and its not fair for abby and big E to have to handle the load by themselves. Im not saying go out and get a good but can't the wings trade some redundant players to fill a need? I'm really not sure wahts available but teams are in cap hell right now and the wings have assets.

modano texted lebrun and said he has not even talked to the hawks
-
but guys, derek meech was dion phenuefs d partner in junior!
-
kudos to holland for signing the millers, and meechs of the world for cheap tradable contracts. Now get abby and helm locked up kenny!
-
good deal. im sure there are teams who would love meech for 500K
-
well at least we have a number now and im glad its only a one year
-
i thought they offered him 800K ?

haha that sucks man I broke my hand a couple times and it is hard to play and grip the stick let alone get a shot off . I'd rather have a broken foot to be honest when it comes to playing hockey lol -
3-4 years from now maybe? mule/dats/tatar nyqvist/sheahan/zeterberg nestrasil/abby/ferrero cally/helm/mursak home grown tough guy smith/kronwall ericsson/almqvist lashoff/nicastro erdhardt mccollum/jimmy this is assumed guys retire/not re signed and if these guys project to what there potential is

http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2010/07/red_wings_links_prospect_camp.html "Nill called Mitch Callahan "something we don't have ... he's going to fight anybody, one of those fan favorite type of players." Mitchell Callahan's 5'10" and about 180 lbs of pure muscle, so don't assume that he's going to be a heavyweight, but I'd best describe him as a hybrid of Kirk Maltby, Darren McCarty, and Dallas Drake in their primes--he's a winger who adores playing a north-south game in which his speedy skating allows him to get in on the forecheck, bang bodies, and generate turnovers, but he can also dig out pucks and slide them out front to forwards for scoring chances, grind the puck out, or, again, work with a more offensively talented player (his partner in crime was Landon Ferraro) toe generate offense on the cycle, he possesses a mature defensive awareness for a player of his age, he absolutely works his butt off, his shot and pass are underrated, and, mostly... He loves being a grinder, embraces the concept that it's his job to hit people and pi..I mean tick people off, and while he's missing his two front teeth and gets nicked up in the face a lot because he's a fearless player who is more than willing to drop the gloves, what impressed me most about Mitchell was the way his intelligence out-stripped his fantastic work ethic. For a doofy-looking kid with a gap-toothed smile, he kept up with every drill, spoke to the coaches regularly when he needed clarification on the technical points of where they wanted him to go and where he should position himself to most aggressively cut off scoring chances against, get in on the forecheck, or create scoring chances himself, and he spoke like a young man who understood that it's both attention to detail and hard work would separate him from your every-day, nondescript grinder. Really, I guess I'd say that he's the first real Dallas Drake-type player the Wings have had in their system since Dallas Drake came into town as an incredibly intelligent and incredibly annoying forechecker who had 10-15 goal and 30-40 point potential. can I throw down with z and d for the c ??? -
i dont think callahan makes the team although i wouldn't be against it if he did. kenny did talk about giving the kids a chance. He should get some pre season games though. If archie gets a contract he will most likely play in GR or Toledo.
